(Warning! Long post! No TLDR!)
Hey guys,
With Warmind almost here, we might have some insight into what we can expect from Destinys story in September. Everything that follows is only heavy speculation and only somewhat based on fact. This post, like my other one from today, is based on what we know so far (May 5th, pre Warmind release).
Savathun seems be the obvious threat we will fight in the big September DLC. Many missions, adventures and bits of lore seem to hint at her coming for us and being the new ruler of the taken. I now want to give some options for the story with and without Savathun.
Now into stuff that we basically know:
The September DLC will feature the reef in some way. Bungie once confirmed the last cutscene of D2 vanilla story to be a somewhat roadmap of what’s to come story wise. In the cutscene, the traver awakens and kills Ghaul with some pulse of light. That burst of light then spreads throughout our solar system until it reaches the infamous triangle ships (not going to talk about those for now). We can see the bust passing by some specific places in our solar system. Bungie confirmed the order of those places to be the order of the future story.
The first place we see is Mercuy (Curse of Osiris), then Mars (Warmind) and then the reef and after that the Dreadnaught.
So the reef is definitely next is some way. Now what could that mean for the story. The reef obviously means the Awoken of the reef will return. Most of their forces have been wiped out in the battle with Oryx in D1. The queen, Mara Sov, was supposedly killed in this battle and her brother, Uldren Sov, crashed his ship on Mars and survived. If the reef was attacked by the Red Legion, is unknown (I think so, please correct me on this).
But there is more we know. The queen is hinted to be alive somehow, since her brother still feels her presence. Uldren was tracking down the Fallen House of Kings and was staying undercover.
Now, this is a little bit controversial, but it seems like Uldren has taken control of the House of Kings and has combined all Fallen Houses under his rule. Variks also seems to be involved. I personally believe that he indeed is in control of the Kings. If the newly formed House of Dusk, which are at least all other Houses combined, is also under his rule is still up for debate in my eyes. Also, in a recent developer insights video by Bungie, a guardian is being seen scanning a vehicle of some kind on Mars. At first I thought it was a guardian tank like the ones from the vanilla D2 campaign, but after further investigation it looks like a Awoken reef ship, like we see them in D1. This could be Uldrens ship. Some people said that Uldren crashed somewhere else on Mars. I personally don’t know if there is any confirmed location of his crash other than Mars (tell me if you know). I think that it’s a Awoken ship that crashed during the battle with Oryx, but not Uldrens ship. Just another Awoken soldier. Uldren landing here would be way too convenient and I don’t think he will show up personally in Warmind. But it still could be a hint towards a reef DLC.
Now, what is the conflict of this DLC going to be? The remains of the reef are definitely on our side. Uldrens Fallen could be the main enemies, but I see no reason for him to attack guardians, other than abandoning his former goals and basically joining the Fallen or some unknown own agenda. He seemed to not like guardians in the past (D1), but he also helped us multiple times. But if we imagine the Fallen as the new threat, they would most likely take revenge on either the reef or the city. All Fallen Houses want the Traveler back. Since the reef will be the main focus or location and we just had an attack on the city, revenge on the reef is more likely. Mara Sov could return as the head of the Awoken. This would pit sibling against sibling. Mara Sov would ask for our assistance, maybe as a way to pay them back for fighting Oryx.
But here is another option which might be more likely:
It could also be Savathun. The reef as the likely setting does not mean that Fallen must be involved. Like I said in the beginning, Savathun is hinted at by many sources. Adventures have teased the next events for three times now (Calus, Osiris and Rasputin). I can’t remember playing any adventures that hinted at a Fallen threat (but let me know if you think you have).
In the cutscene I talked about before, the place after the reef is the Dreadnaught. I think that they might hint at the same DLC. We currently don’t know if there will be another expansion after DLC 3. RoI was only made because of a delay on Destiny 2. The triangle ships are most definitely D3, but could also belong to DLC 3 according to my logic (that would be awesome). But that’s unlikely.
So, I think that Savathun will come for us, and once again, the reef will know it first. Now that I am writing this, it hit me how similar that would be to TTK. Maybe a little too similar. But this is only one possibility of a Savathun scenario. Also, two Hive DLCs back to back would be strange and therefore less likely, but still not impossible.
If I’m able to find adventures or missions that hint at something other then Savathun, I would think that the coming of another Hive god is less likely then something else. But right now, most evidence points to the cunning sister of Oryx, that wanted to live forever...
I know that it’s way too early to make some good assumptions, but it’s still fun, since September will be such an important time for Destiny 2.
Tell me what you think will happen next.

2 RespuestasSo, Mara Sov will return?
-
2 RespuestasI think we will get some kind of distress signal from the reef Ikora (or some other Vanguard memeber) will let us listen to it and it will be Petra asking for help as the taken are attacking and the remains of the prison of elders are as well this first mission should play out similar to the Phobos mission at the start of TTK. Side note it would be funny if the guardian makes some comment about “how come whenever there’s some Galaxy ending event we seem to get involved?”.

1 RespuestaEverything is 'folklore' now...... except Eververse. Eververse is still canon.

I think this post is longer than what the story for DLC3 will be lol.

1 Respuestathere is a good chance that it will be sava attacking the reef that or fallen attacking the reef

5 RespuestasI’m not going against your theory, but I thought it was the House of Rain, not the house of Dawn
