In recent days, many Australians have compared their country with the United States. They have talked about their gun laws and how if the United States adopted their gun laws, we would benefit as a result.
I have repeatedly suggested that Australians mind their own business and let us mind ours.
I don't know much about Australia other than what I have seen in the movies. So I Googled population of Australia.
It stated that the population of Australia is a mere 24.1 million people in 2016.
In comparison, the population of the United States as of 2016 is 323 million. That means that the number of people living in Australia is only 7.47% of our population.
I am not sure why no one seems to understand this.
Another example that is used is Great Britain or the United Kingdom, whichever you prefer. The people living there only amount to a little over 20% of the population of the United States.
All of the comparisons made, blatantly ignore the differences in population, size of the country, number of cities, typography, and culture.
Edit: Australians keep saying that there are 33000 gun deaths in America each year. 33000 is only .01% of our population. However it is 1.4% of their population. Maybe that's why they are so freaked out.
I don't mean to seem callous. Every life is important. But as history has shown us, human beings are vicious animals who want to kill one another.
I pray that one day our kind will be eradicated from the face of the Earth. But until then, let's be kind to one another.

Editado por solidarity89: 2/23/2018 1:35:06 AMAustralian buyback only recovered 1/3 of the legal firearms. There are still 2/3 legal and all illegal firearms still in circulation. What idiot thinks the government is capable of confiscating 40 million guns when they failed to take away 1 from someone who flagged as a threat. Also the USA and Australia have extremely similar declines in gun related violence over the past 20 years showing strong trends in relation to economic crises and advances in treatment for mental health issues. These studies also show slight correlation between gun legislation and gun related crime but rather acknowledge that there are other factors that influence these numbers far more significantly and that restricting or banning firearms is essentially ineffective.
it’s also a lot easier to smuggle illegal items into the USA than Australia considering how accessible the border is in comparison to Australia which is basically a fortified super jail of an island(not literally of course)
3 RespuestasEditado por KingOfGames: 2/20/2018 4:15:53 PMLet's say Australia's gun laws are MUCH better that America's gun laws, and that it lowers their gun deaths. Then let's say we adopt them. It won't help us whatsoever. The Americans are not the same as Australians. Australians are much nicer people than the people we have in this country. I'm sure we would find a way to continue doing whatever suits our minds by using hammers or something.
Seriously, hammer deaths are much higher than gun deaths in the United States

ninjas please don't ban me again
5 RespuestasAll it is is a simple scale up of an existing scheme that has worked. There will need to be tailoring to different specific needs but the underlying principle can stay the same. Restrict excessive firepower. Also Australia>US

This is what we would have to deal with if we had to verse Aussies.

3 RespuestasIm aussie and ive been seeing so much annoying bullshit in this debate, im logical enough to realise that the laws we have wouldnt work in the US, but our gun laws arent the only reason why we dont have mass shootings although it is a part of it, we also have public healthcare with lots of funding going to mental health programs, and we also have incredibly strict immigration laws, its a combination of these 3 thrings that make Australia safe, its stupid to try and pin this problem on ONE thing, its a multitude of problems coming together to form a recipe for disaster, while i admit that guns arent the MAIN problem, its definately a contributing factor in the equation.

6 RespuestasAmerica is on its own when it comes to gun crime statistics. Why compare the incomparable. It’s in your nature to shoot each other. You love guns too much to get rid of them and unless there’s a crackdown the statistics will get much higher and massacres more common.

9 RespuestasEditado por Dr Livingston 9: 2/21/2018 2:50:22 AMA huge difference is australia is ultra strict on who they let into there country. where the united states has many immigrants comming into the country. One reason Japan has crime so low is because some are racist and do not like other kinds into their country. while being racist is wrong being xenophobic has some pluses that they only like japanese. they want only people that can conform to there culture .they are soft racists though they wont say it too your face but behind your back. for instance some places caucasians can not go. my friend lived in japan for several years . remember in the united states where in the 1960's they had signs that black people where not allowed. well that happens in japan where they only want japanese in certain places. if you want to lower crime you have to be particular on who you let in. Australia is very picky on who they let into their country.

You also need to realize that part of that 33000 gun deaths, include suicides, hunting accidents, legal police shootings, and accidental discharges, where the gun owner was hurt.

3 RespuestasNow a better question is how come America isn't compared to Serbia, the country with the second largest amount of guns per 100 people America sits at the top with 101 guns/ 100 people, while Serbia sits at 52.18 guns/100 people America has more than 20 times the shootings Serbia has, and only double the guns per 100 people, that's not good math for America ... ... PS I'm back, miss me

Well not only is there a higher crime rate due to higher population, that could mean more criminals within the illegal gun trade and more illegal guns than Australia. I had an argument similar to this in the past. It was a Northern European country, Sweden maybe? They treated their criminals in prisons greatly. It was like a hotel. They also got an education there and everything. Thing was though that we had s higher crime rate due to increased population. And if this is about the semi recent shooting, it’s the schools fault it happened. They ignored a lot of early warning signs from the shooter. Instead of stricter gun control, I would prefer more safety measure at school or something like that. I just fear that stricter gun laws might keep a protective firearm out of the hands of a possible victim.

Australia - 1 America - 10 You have 4X the weapons and 10X the amount of deaths from guns all in relation to population size. Might of wanted to do a little research first.

In my opinion they just need to patch up the loop holes that make it WAY to easy to get a gun under any conditions, the most common example being the gun show demonstration, although I believe some states have recently begun developing remedies to that specific issue. Other than a few ways to get past the gun control laws already present, U.S.A policies seem pretty reasonable.
