They are only good at Hype. It's why every time something drops, it's a disappointment. Their hype doesn't ever live up and that's why it's so hard to describe why the game is bad in a lot of areas. I mean, technically they do deliver what they say, it just sucks. I remember watching their little trailer talking about Rise of Iron. The way they described the content made it sound like this huge epic thing. They talked about how you would "battle to take back Felwinter Peak" and how you'd embark on this quest to become an Iron Lord. It made it sound like you'd be rushing the mountain like troops on D-Day scrambling to overrun pillboxes and stuff, like it'd be this huge epic battle. Made it sound like the story would be this deep narrative where you'd learn about who Jolder and Skorri and all those people were and what they did, and that it'd be this huge proving to earn the title of Iron Lord and you'd feel like you accomplished this rare feat. When in reality, the "Battle" for Felwinter Peak was just a short gondola ride, one shotting Fallen all the way to the top, and then a short fight with a big servitor bullet sponge. Thank god that Saladin arrived after the fight to use a heavy machine gun on two vandals to save us. But technically, yeah it was all there. We "learned" about the Iron Lords by reading one minute of each of their grimoire cards. Saladin did make us an Iron Lord after we did the handful of story missions. (Never cringed harder than when he called us "Lord Guardian".) Technically, there is a lot of story in D2. They just either aren't telling it all when they really could, or they are telling it in the shittiest way possible. Like each piece of the main campaign could have been this sprawling bunch of side stories, like Hawthorne and the survivors out in the wild and how they live and completing quests to help their individual little cause. Or they could have done a whole big thing about the group of guardians on the facility at Titan, and stretched that into this huge storyline about them wanting to start fresh there with Zavala as a leader of a new group of guardians separate from the Vanguard and him struggling with his own problems. Nope. Go here, here, here, and there... shoot, that, this, this, and that. Mumble mumble, something, something, something, Darkside. There's a huge amount of potential there and they keep sitting on it and letting it seep out like a hot fart so that we cringe when we hit our noses. Hype. Omigod, such story, much wow. That's what they should have said instead of raising everyone's expectations. If you're gonna make big claims like that, make sure that you actually attempt it. Look around Bungie. This is not "much story". One of the Witcher's side fxcking quests has more story in it's left pinky than your entire game.

 • Your D-day reference was a pretty good idea. Thinking on how well WWII with the very first mission, it would've been pretty amazing to see our guardian actually having trouble. It would be nice if we could experience the battle of twilight gap first hand.

 • That's so awesome You brought up twilight gap because I've always thought "man, we need some high octane stuff like that happening". I just figured the actual mission taking back Felwinter Peak would have been more awe inspiring. Like it would be this big long grueling mission akin to storming the beaches of Normandy. Space magic flying, wire rifles and spider tanks going off, fortifications of Fallen in those tower things that you literally have to go crazy on. Nope. One shot. One shot. Oh, yellow bar, here's a rocket. One shot. Bullet sponge. 5 minutes. You took felwinter peak. They'll tell stories about... your, your... zzzzzz.... The disturbing thing is... Bungie probably thinks what they delivered was that hectic and awesome. And that is sad.

 • "Hype" like "pressure at work" is a self perceived event. Meaning it's on us and us alone. Bungie shows something and we gobble it up like cake and complain after we're done, "it tastes like cardboard" Work says "Friday deadline" we feel pressured.
Trust But Verify
• You're right. Half the buck is on us for believing it. But the kind of hype on their end is the same kind of thing that everyone else in advertising uses. Where they show you a big stacked fxckin burger and it looks all perfect when you know that thing will be all flattened and pitiful looking when you order it. That much is on them. Don't talk your stuff up so much when you know it is not really gonna deliver. The "such story much complaining" deal is just one example. It just leaves people feeling jaded. D2 was the last straw for me. I'm sure it was with a lot of people. They've done this so many times that they are basically losing all credibility.

 • This IS basically what bungie has done since they left Microsoft. Tease, but no please.

 • Yeah true. I was willing to stick with D1 because it's gameplay was still fun and there was so much potential. But not again.

 • Well said. This is what makes the universe do frustrating. You read about Dredgen Yor or the Books of Sorrow and go "Holy Fuc* Batman! That is awesome!" And then we get the Red War or COO story...

 • It’s obvious they can’t handle this type of game and unfortunately they own the IP. Everywhere you should look there is no way out of the mess.
