I want the opinion of Bungie defenders in the wake of stream 3 for CoO being cancelled.

For those who don't know, this headline and story sum it up: "Bungie Cancels Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris Stream To Address Fan Anger" https://kotaku.com/bungie-cancels-destiny-2-curse-of-osiris-stream-to-add-1820811411?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow First off, I come in peace. I'm not here to insult or anything like that. I have argued/debated with many Bungie defenders/BDF members about who is actually in the majority in D2 when it comes to either satisfied or dissatisfied players/customers. To me and others it's been glaringly obvious that the vast, vast majority of players of D2 are in fact dissatisfied and want change. I contend you have to be willingly turning a blind eye as Rome burns to not see that. To me, the fact that Bungie pulled the 3rd stream for CoO and instead are directly going to (supposedly) address changes needed to the game and the state of the game due to player anger vindicates and proves correct that I and those on my side of the argument are correct: You (BDF members) are squarely the minority. A company doesn't make this move if everything is fine. So my questions to BDF'ers are, do you still believe you're the majority? Do you still believe the game is ok as is? What is your opinion on them pulling the stream and what do you hope to see in the news article that is coming? Believe it or not I'm not trolling or being sarcastic or being an ass. I genuinely am curious to those questions above. EDIT: Adding Polygon article. The caption on FB is perfectly fitting here. Keyword - "rightfully" "The Destiny 2 community is (rightfully) angry with Bungie, and the studio has canceled tomorrow's planned livestream." https://www.polygon.com/2017/11/28/16712378/destiny-2-curse-of-osiris-livestream-canceled-community-controversy

  • They canceled curse of Isis stream because you're gona be seeing more of that recycled content when they try to implement more "quality of life changes". Because you know what, they were going to disappoint the comunity more and they have nothing else outside of that.

  • I believe that pretty much every night after work I come home and switch destiny 2 on and play and have fun, It’s variety of game types allows me to decide what I want to play depending how much time I have or what I feel like doing, I have friends that have drifted in and out this game but they still come and play. Yes destiny 2 is too easy/has no need for grind/has lots of things to fix at this point because it as made that way, listening to the podcast last night and reading the blog I 100% believe that bungie know this, and realise this was a mistake on there part and will fix this, that is what I believe and I don’t actually care what anyone else thinks.

  • I have and always will suggest tempered expectations and weighting facts more than opinions. I have always had my concerns about Bungie and the decision making going on behind the scenes, but don't let that get in the way of whether or not I enjoy the game. I believe many of you have and still do overemphasize some things more than you should. Sometimes in very petty and non-constructive ways that don't help anyone's cause to make the game better. But that's just my opinion. My concerns are not the same concerns as everybody else (i.e. I care very little about PvP and am fine whether it's 4v4 or 6v6) so if I don't agree with you, it's not because I'm a fanboy. It means I just don't feel the same problem you do when I play the game. That said, I feel this announcement was a step in the right direction for all of us and I'm looking forward to seeing what actions they will take. I am not "hyped", I just want to see what they have to say. We should ALL feel this is a positive thing, not a bad one, because they're making an effort to talk to us and not just SAY they're listening. It's a chance for them to SHOW it and we should welcome that. What we don't need right now is in-fighting among the community about who was right or for how long. That stuff doesn't matter.

To quote one of the commenters from Polygon- "What people love about Destiny: Flawless FPS mechanics. Great art. Dopamine loot system highs. What people hate about Destiny: Everything else" Followed by another commenter- "Dopamine loot system highs The sound when you unlock an exotic or even a legendary is so satisfying. And the visual feedback attached to it is really good too. It gets me excited every time I get an engram to hopefully hear/see it." This pretty much sums up D1. and one last quote from the same comments section- "and if you were drawn to Destiny for the loot grind more than the shooting, then this is probably why you’re burnt out at this point, but I’m not" I'm part of the latter not the former. D2 certainly has issues. but its certainly not the end of the world , well unless you are a dopamine addict.

  • I really dislike this tendency we have to label people with opinions different than our own and use those labels as divisive monikers to separate "us" from "them." It creates a hostile environment from the outset of a discussion and serves to hinder any objective discourse. I happen to enjoy Destiny 2 but I wasn't around for Destiny 1 so I don't have any experience to compare this game to its predecessor. I also readily acknowledge several areas the game can improve. However, I still enjoy the game and I still feel like I've received my money's worth of content and hours of enjoyment from the product. It's obvious there are a lot of passionate people about the Destiny franchise, both on the player side and the developer side, but we seem to have fundamental difficulties in bringing our passionate opinions into alignment. It's also apparent that Bungie has some learning to do in how to communicate with its player base and when to be transparent. I do think the company can learn these things if given the chance but the gaming industry is a vicious industry right now. Consumer demand is very high, expectation is high and we are coming out of an era where consumers were forced to accept subpar products and became accustomed to it, now we're in an era where we hold developers accountable for their products but the consumer-developer interaction still has some evolution to undergo before it's in a healthy place (in my opinion). I think the cancellation of the stream today has the potential to be the right move if the blog post that is released in its stead shows clear evidence that Bungie is not only listening to the criticism being leveled against it (not just in terms of the game but also in terms of its lack of transparency and communication) but also provides a plan and timetable to address the issues. Just listing the issues and stating that they've taken notice of them will not be sufficient to begin regaining lost ground, Bungie will have to prove that they're putting money and resources into addressing the criticism promptly.

    • I'd like to preface this reply by stating I've never defended a Dev for shitty actions and firmly believe in voting with my wallet as it's what a company understands before anything else actually said. With THAT said. I'm not in support of their actions at all as a company. While not the shittiest of things given recent events in the industry, I can say that I'm very cautious of any future expansion/update. I thoroughly enjoy the game as a game. It's some quality shooting that we've come to know bungie for over the years. Mechanically it's engaging and a great time in spurts simply due to the core of the gameplay on pc Imo. Aside from that? Screw everything else. I came into D1 late on PS4 after the release of TTK and had a damn fun blast given the amount of content I had to catch up on. However, it boggles my mind as to how they could get it so right at the end of D1, having the game finally finding it's footing after all the BS that made me avoid it to begin with for years..... And them we get D2.... As I said, while mechanically -blam!-ing solid in it's basics... It baffles me as to how they can take a step backwards with everything they learned by the end of the last game to this one.... The story is there now. It's engaging, sure. The shoot bang bang is good. But how the -blam!- are you going to strip everything back down this far, screw with the community with sleezy ass tactics to entice engram purchases. Retcon that system, call it essentially a "glitch" and then peg back the XP gains changing pretty nothing at all only AFTER getting caught. Ignoring all community feedback and going in almost the exact OPPOSITE direction we beg for as a majority. Ignoring all QoL requests and suggestions that seem to be unanimously upvoted community wide.... I have no -blam!-ing idea how anyone can "defend" the company at this point. To be cautiously optimistic? Sure I can see that. But to outright defend any AAA company that's willing to ask for feedback and say they support the community while attempting to shake down dollars out of our pockets and lie about it, you must be crazy. I get there are people working at Bungie and in no way hold Ill will toward the devs. They're just people doing a job in an industry that doesn't really appreciate them unfortunately. But unless the company practices get better I can't support it further and will be taking everything said by PR with a grain of salt.

      • Everything is coming to a head, and rightfully so I have to admit. I’m trying to give D2 a fresh start and call it like I see it but not be a jerk, it’s up to Bungie now to not anger their fans anymore and deliver on every word in the “The State of Destiny 2”. That’s about as positive I can be at the moment regarding D2.

        • Hi H Town, You post a fair straight forward message. I appreciate that. I am one of the Bungie Defenders. I am probably not typical. I have a wife and a job. I am an old dude (48 yrs old). Old fart, I know. Even so, I game every chance I get. I am probably in the above average casual category. Not in skill but in hours played. First, I love sci-fi. I just love it. I also love shooters. I used to hop from game to game never really satisfied. I would play a while, sell the game (the disc), and put the money toward another game. When I accidentally found Destiny it was like I found my home. This is everything I ever wanted in a video game and more. I hate in and out games. I like my games to have a well developed story. I like to be immersed in the fantasy of the the game. When I play D2 I let myself be transported like I am there. It's better than I could imagine. Getting hung up on the details is beside the point. This is a world that allows me to escape for a little while and maybe play with friends. When I go back to real life, I am satisfied and fulfilled. Like reading a good book. Time will come and go. Getting crazed because something didn't happen when I wanted it to only hurts me. I know Bungie is creating good things. I am anticipating it. When it happens I am that much more happy. Yeah, I am super happy with the game. I really liked the first 2 CoO streams. They will publish the 3rd one. When they do, it will be great as well. It will build our excitement. I am personally making it my mission to not get in a fight with the haters (I don't think you are a hater), but rather I will be positive and uplifting. We are all lucky to have expensive consoles and PC's and internet. I have the elite MS controller and Kontrol Freeks for my knobs. All that is excessive. It's a luxury. We are living the good life and have more than we deserve. We should be grateful. I will continue to support the game and will spend whatever Bungie asks. This is the ride of a lifetime and I am riding the 10 story arc to the end, baby. I hope to see you around for good times and fun.
So my questions to BDF'ers are, do you still believe you're the majority?
Yes. Ever been to a speaking engagement where a speaker gets shouted down? Its NEVER by a majority of the crowd...but by an energized, and angry minority. Who don't have any respect for anything but their own agenda. The point of doing something like this is simple. This energized minority is sucking up all the oxygen in the room, and are preventing any ability to discuss anything else. So what Bungie has been trying to do is be the speaker who is being shouted down, and is trying to go on with his prepared remarks. After a certain point the group trying to shout you down becomes so obnoxious, that you're faced with the choice of either walking off the stage.....or giving those trying to shout you down the platform they want. Bungie opted for the latter approach, rather than letting this group----that can't understand: 1. The difference between the Development team and the Live team. 2. The fact that the purpose of the DLC is NOT to fix the end game. 3. That Bungie has said multiple times that the changes to the end game would be coming with Season 2 to have their day. ....ruin their marketing push for the DLC. Which is actually the courageous thing to do. Because most speakers who get shouted down just walk off, and dont' even bother. What pisses me off, Is I wanted to see the new gear.....but now I apparently won't get that opportunity because of some people's need for immediate gratification.

          • You don't really want to hear from fanbois. Obviously you are here to troll. As someone who likes Destiny 2, I'll say this: Bungie, Blizzard and all the game companies you love no matter how much you do (and OP probably thinks some company out there is the bestest ever somewhere) will try to get you to buy more stuff. You are naïve if you think otherwise, or if you think this is only about Bungie, and you want to go all pitchfork on this. If you like a game, play it. If you want to throw money away chasing random loot boxes of virtual nonsense, go ahead. But if you think that some company out there should be worshipped in a church, and you're mad because you can't worship them like a cult fanatic anymore, then maybe the company isn't the only problem...

            • My opinion is some people like Red and others like Blue. I personally think Bungie did a great job with D2. D2 is my favorite game and it is a huge improvement over D1. This is not a joke. I am telling the Truth. I especially like how they adjusted PVP with slower TTK, longer ability cooldowns, and reduced impact of one shot heavy weapons. Sure seems like a lot of people don't like those aforementioned changes but I absolutely love it. I'd be playing right now but I am watching my Lakers battle the overpowered Warriors. Yesssss!!! Lakers took the lead!! Fingers crossed...

Have y’all read the Bungie blog. Looks like Bungie CAN distinguish useful feedback from the white noise. Did you get what you wanted? Are there there other things you want? What did you think of Bungie’s effort at communicating?

I don't think there really is such thing as a Bungie defender. I think you're confused with people like myself who miss reading about people’s positive experiences in the game, tips, secrets, theories and SGA. Now the community forum has gone to shit with this viral/toxic trend of just whining and complaints really, it’s not even worth sifting through these threads anymore. Calling someone a Bungie defender just because they enjoy the game as it is and would rather not entertain to people’s negativity, is basically like being called Religious/Christian just because I’d rather not put up with people’s depressing hate-filled rants on Nihilism. I think people need to reflect on themselves and get some perspective.End of the day, it’s just a game and I’m seeing the same people for 3 years bitch and moan in their diatribes quite frequently. I’ve been in a few relationships and have invested a way lot more time, effort and money than whatever most people have sunk into this game. But there’s been a couple of relationships where things just aren’t working out despite trying, so I just call it quits and let it go. I know people who are in depressing relationships because they both can’t communicate, share different interests and beliefs, yet they make each other miserable by fighting every day, under the false belief that things will get back to that “spark” period in the beginning – yet they only make it worse and they’ve been doing it for 8 years now (most of those years wasted). Now what would you suggest those people do? End it, or keep fighting? So here's a truth: Keep complaining, playing the victim and dwelling on the negative aspects on something and I guarantee your life will be poorer for it. Many of the noisy people here won’t be happy until they get EVERYTHING they want from this game, now there’s an extensive list of what can be improved in D2, but I’m 100% certain Bungie won’t correct this to perfection….so where’s the line where us as a community stop complaining? Because right now, we’re at Pop Tarts and xp.

                      • The fact that they cancelled the stream shows that we had a big enough impact to make them realize that we need changes in D2. I'm not defending them. But at least we now know they want the old Destiny back too.

                      • I had a blast with D2 initially, but sure its not perfect. Bungie obviously is aware of the issues and will hopefully make some changes. The developers can’t do these things overnight, especially with a game as well polished as this. It’s not the end of the world. Bungie has to be doing something right or these forums wouldn’t be filled with passionate players freaking out. Give them time.

                      • What i dont understand is the majority of changes we see in D2 are a direct result of the complaints right here on these forums in D1. Now...those changes that sooooo many people claimed would fix Destiny... are the very same complaining about D2. The hypocrisy is astounding honestly. All those cries for nerfs, unfair weapon drops for all those losers who didn't get the highest score in PVP. All the cries of how unfair Eververse was. No mm for raids. The cries of elementals to come back. Too much grind to rank weapons and armor. Boring events, primaries need to be relevant again..the list is endless. All that stuff has been changed in D2. NOW....it gets complaints???? Yeah, there needs to be changes in D2. But if your one of those rose colored D1 persons complaining D2 is so much worse then the glory days of D1....give me a break. Most of the complaints in D2 are a direct result of all the things changed because of all the complaints made right here over D1!
