Why would I buy an Xbox one X when I can get a very similar effect by hooking up my PC via a HDMI cable?
I also have access to more games than are available on the One X, games that run far better than anything the One X could ever run, so there is that too.
Good for you man. I play on every platform.

Also it’s funny how pro pc you are yet you chose to play d2 on a PS4 ... isn’t that weird ....

Editado por Smash House Breck: 11/10/2017 4:02:24 PMActually I play it on both Xbox One and PS4. However that is irrelevant to this current situation as you well know.

Which is more appealing? PCs are nice but obtrusive, even my video card glows GEFORCE GTX through the glass side of my case. Sometimes I wish I could toss a black cloth over it to help hide the tower. Some people appreciate a more subtle décor, I turned a small bedroom into a gaming room to keep all the tech stuff out of the living area. Gaming is more than just who has the most powerful system. Choices are good and the new xbox one x is minimalist enough I would put it in the living room if I wanted to.

I put that side against the desk... it's all good for the gaming room.

Yes, I’ve seen the size of those towers and I DO NOT want one in my living room, thanks. My wife agrees to Xbox only because they fit inside the cabinet so well. [enter scene of husband returning home from Best Buy. In his arms is a gigantic computer box] Wife: Honey, what is that? Husband: It our new gaming system! It’s SOOOOO much more powerful than my Xbox, and plays lots more games! Wife: Where do you think you’re going to put it? Husband: I’m going to hook it up to our gorgeous “no wires” home theater in our living room. [Wife stares with blank look on her face for a moment, then the brow furrows and blades suddenly jut out of her eyeballs] Wife: Over my dead body ... you’r hooking that up to your little work tv out in the garage ... I don’t even want to see that thing in our home office ... AND I’m going to Tiffany’s.com right now and ordering a diamond that costs the same as that damn computer! [Husband, a look of shock and horror on his face suddenly fears for his very life] Husband: How about I just return this to Best Buy and get an Xbox One X instead? Wife: Very good idea ... that way I don’t have to start planning a funeral today. [Husband turns and flees out the front door, flames burning off the tires as he drives back to Best Buy as fast as possible, all the while with an itch on the back of his head where he imagines the laser sight is]

Editado por Smash House Breck: 11/10/2017 4:31:56 PMI chose my PC as just an example to illustrate a point, that point being you can hook up anything to a home theater system and gain a similar effect as the Xbox one X. It’s not the One X that makes the experience special.
-
The point is the Xbox One X did make the experience special for the OP. I could never get into the Witcher 3 on my old console but on the new Xbox I loaded it up to test the console and I'm loving it now. Yes, the Xbox One X did bring back the enthusiasm for console gaming to me. Upgrading a console makes just as much sense to me as upgrading a pc.

The game hasn’t changed. That’s like saying that a blue ray version of a movie made it more enjoyable, which simply isn’t true. For the sake of this example I’ll keep going with the comparison to a movie. If you watched the original version on a standard TV and “couldn’t get into it” and then watched it again on blue ray except with a home theater and then enjoyed it, you can’t give the credit to the blue ray as the film is almost exactly the same. It’s the exact same thing for your argument as to why you couldn’t get into the Witcher. A slight upscale does not change the game’s content, you just put enough time into it to change your opinion or other circumstances changed allowing you to better appreciate the game. The Xbox One X isn’t responsible for that. Anyways my point still stands that it is the home theater system that should be given the credit for this situation and not the console.
-
So playing on a pc doesn't make a game more enjoyable than playing on a console? Is that what you are saying? The extra power, less lag, faster loading doesn't matter?
-
Basically no. The games are what matter. A crap game is still a crap game even if it looks pretty. A good game doesn’t need to run at 4K 60fps to be fun and enjoyable. Sure lower loading times and a graphical boost are nice, but a good game is still good at medium to low settings. In the example of Gears of War, the game didn’t change just because it was played on the Xbox One. The experience changed because of the home theater system.
-
Yeah you did !! You just said it’s the tv that gets the credit not the equipment the game plays on !!! Hahahahahahha omfg you just killed your own argument
-
For this example yes. I’ve explained it in detail already. The home theater is responsible for the experience, not the Xbox One X. The One X is just hooked up to the home theater system. My point still stands that you could get a similar experience with any platform you play on, and it’s not the One X that makes it special.

I understand what you are saying, but in this case the home theater system was already there. The new component was the new Xbox One X. Yes, better hardware does make a difference on how much you enjoy the game. If a game is stuttering and I have to play on medium or low settings I will be upgrading something. Because I enjoy the game better as it was meant to be played.

The new component was the new Xbox One X.
I’m aware of this. However a lot of the experience is due to the home theater system than the Xbox one, which the OP never acknowledged. The way the post was structured implies that the home theater had little do do with the experience and that it was mostly because of the new console, which I have proven is not the case.
Yes, better hardware does make a difference on how much you enjoy the game. If a game is stuttering and I have to play on medium or low settings I will be upgrading something. Because I enjoy the game better as it was meant to be played.
I agree that playing a game that is stuttering is not very enjoyable. However if the game is not stuttering and runs smoothly at low or medium settings it can still be enjoyed. It sure is nice when it can be ran on higher settings, however it isn’t necessary to enjoy the game. Going back to the home theater and the Xbox one x, you could get almost an identical experience on a regular Xbox One, the only difference being slightly lower quality visuals and maybe some occasional slowdown and longer load times. It’s not the Xbox one that makes the experience drastically better, it’s playing the game with a home theater.

It's a personal preference I suppose, but when I see my system can't support high or ultra high settings I'm looking to upgrade. So yes it does affect how much I enjoy the game. I do agree a home theater would be a huge bonus also, in fact I'm looking for a new tv or monitor now that has both 4k and hdr. Until I get it I'll keep playing on my 4k monitor. My husband doesn't care how he watches tv, a storm took out the hdmi ports on his cable box and he went without HD for months before he finally changed it in for a new box. I understand your point that some people can enjoy lower quality.

Editado por Smash House Breck: 11/10/2017 4:34:24 PMI can safely say that almost any game is better on a giant screen with surround sound. It is nice when it looks good to, but like you said it is a matter of personal preference and many people including myself can enjoy games with lower quality visuals with no issues. To each their own.
