Anyone else frustrated that once a mod has been applied to a certain piece of gear you can't get it back? You should be able to:
1) Pay a certain amount of glimmer or other currency to decouple mods from gear
2) Automatically get mods (EDIT: or at least a mod component) back when you dismantle gear
EDIT: Thanks for all the comments! Can't believe this many people have similar thoughts. I agree with what a lot of people are saying: even a mod component returned would be a big improvement, similar to how gunsmith materials are given when dismantling gear.
EDIT 2: Obviously gaining the ability to remove mods from exotics poses a problem since people could rebuy exotics from their vault and remove their mods for a limitless supply. Perhaps mods that inherently come with exotics could be "exotic" versions that are unable to be removed. Manually applied legendary mods could then override these inherent exotic mods and be removed if so desired. Alternatively, exotics specifically bought from the vault could simply not have any mods on them in the first place.
EDIT 3: Easy mod farming method:
Thanks to everyone that has posted about this easy farm method, especially @LT Break for breaking it down for us. For those that don't already know:
1) Go to your vault and purchase exotics for 10 legendary shards a piece.
2) Dismantle all those exotics you just bought. You get back 5 shards and 3 gunsmith materials for each one.
3) Go to the gunsmith, and turn in all of the gunsmith materials you just collected. You'll get an assortment of random weapons in addition to random blue and legendary mods.
4) Keep the legendary mods you like and dismantle the ones you don't. Use their mod components on the gunsmith's "Create Weapon Mod" feature to choose between generating even more random legendary weapon or armor mods.
This workaround is nice way to reliably acquire those elusive kinetic weapon mods that so many of us are hunting. Good luck!
