I really think this idea of pitting the factions together in a contest for weapons is going to lead to a faction "meta" where everybody goes for one - and it's almost blatantly obvious which factions will suffer.
Firstly, let me start off by saying I'm an FWC fanboy and I can almost assure you now FWC will come in last in this competition, I don't even have to take this as a guess - it's almost a certainty - why? It's all about colour schemes.
In D1, that was the main reason people gravitated towards Dead Orbit - "muh black shaders" - well great, glad to see you've now amplified this issue by turning it into a contest. I'm sorry, but even as an FWC fanboy, I'm not blind - our colour scheme is absolutely disgusting and that alone is going to be responsible for a serious lack of recruits on that team, that in turn means lower participation towards the event, and abyssal chance of winning.
New Monarchy's sets actually look the nicest in terms of pieces available (imo) but I believe even they will have a hard time competing with the black/grey dead orbit gear. Most gamers, in any game, like solid black stuff because it tends to be the best thing to contrast with any other colours. You're not going to get many people who want to be Orange, Purple and Yellow...... Red/White, yes, but the FWC scheme is going to alienate players, just as it did in the first game.
I'm still going to stay FWC because I see Nergal is in the drop table, but I am irked about how this is going to go down. It's basically a rigged competition right out the door. It seems stupid to chalk something like this up to colours, but that's exactly how it went down for the majority of players in D1 - and I really can't see how it'll turn out different this time around, especially with shaders in the mix.
I'm not really impressed - I'd rather we just stick with the original system and rep whoever we want without fear of choosing the side that never gets special items because they're locked behind "competition." Really just seems like a bad idea to me - you're going to leave everybody on the 2 losing sides feeling like they're getting boned for liking something that somebody else doesn't. ( I don't care about 50,000 glimmer to buy from the winning team - I'm more upset about the 2 weapons that will fall of the face of the Earth and not be sold at all.)
Maybe if this were an actual event where we had to actually compete - like for example in crucible, only FWC vs New Monarchy vs Dead Orbit with actual mathcmaking based on the faction - now THAT would be a competition - but this is going to be chalked down to a stupid "more signups" competition and maybe I'm pessimistic, but the outcome seems almost decided before it starts.
PS: It's more than likely that somebody like me who has 3 characters will be able to compete for all teams (1 each) and ensure we get the rewards for cheap, but I still think this is a totally dumb system - even if I do get the winning weapon at the end of it.

5 RespuestasIt's actually hilarious that it took Bungie 3 years to develop D2. They removed stuff from the game that finally made D1 enjoyable. I've come across at least 4 areas on maps already that are reskins. There's a bunch of gear that are reskins. Flash Points was a big F U to the community. They were made to sound like they would be something fun, but it's just "do the same crap you're already doing." Whoever had the flaspoints idea should be fired.... from a cannon.... into the sun. Factions sound like it's going to be more, keep doing what you're already doing, crap. Lost sectors could have been awesome, but they failed there too. "World bosses" are just punk yellow bars that can be supered or heavy'd to death and give no rewards. Anyone notice how the reskinned Alak-Hul for the Titan public event? Good job Bungie, so thoughtful. Strike scoring, gone. Strike gear, gone. Grimoire, gone. But hey, they added scannable objects that talk about eyes looking at you and some emo tower rat getting drunk and writing poetry. That's some great lore. Can't pick strikes, strikes have no relevance to the story. Can't pick story missions. Can't pick crucible modes. Private matches, gone. SRL, gone. Hey, they changed Trials of Osiris to Trials of the Nine though and called it new content. It's gonna be the same with IB too. Are you guys getting sick of all the new stuff yet? How about that 8 hour story mission that was about 10 because of cinematics. When we ask for more cut scenes we didn't mean we wanted that to take the place of playable content. But all in all, I'm sure Bungie will throw us a bone and give us a quest to get the rest of our exotics back from D1 in the next DLC.
