Hunter class ability suggestion

I'm a hunter main, have been since the alpha of Destiny. I also like to play warlock and titan (I keep one of each for flexibility). After playing the beta, I was disappointed with the hunter's class ability. Here's a couple suggestions on how to possibly improve it, along with why I didn't like it: The Problem: Dodge roll is poorly implemented; it doesn't provide any tangible benefit to survivability. You are neither invulnerable during the dodge, nor do you travel very far in the direction in which you've chosen to move. Furthermore the cool down time for the skill is extraordinarily long in comparison to the relative benefit of its use. In other words: it is of negligible benefit to use the skill and the cool down is too long to justify the effect. * How it can be improved: Arc Strider: Include a small period of invulnerability to the player during the animation of the dodge roll. This would make the roll an effective method for retreat, allowing the player to safely gain distance between themselves and their pursuer. It would also encourage its use as a gap closer, meshing better with the heavily melee-centric skill tree of the arc strider subclass. Additionally, adding a second charge to the dodge roll would increase its usage and viability in both PvE and PvP, particularly considering that it has a less than impactful effect (melee energy increase only when nearby enemies). Gunslinger: Remove dodge roll and instead allow the player to throw a knife at the targeted enemy which causes a defense debuff, similar to how Melting Point functions in Destiny. This provides a team assistive ability which is also useful in solo play and meshes well with the gunslinger subclass. The Problem: Instant reload feels redundant in the face of reload reduction weapon perks. While I did find myself using this ability it was more because dodge roll served absolutely no purpose, rather than because I found it appealing. I will admit there were a few occasions where I appreciated the instant reload, but the significant cool down time ensured its benefit was limited to extremely rare circumstances. Instead, weapon reload perks were sufficient in reducing weapon reload times to tolerable/satisfactory levels, making the instant reload feel redundant. * How it can be improved: Make the instantly reloaded clip a damage buffed clip. The damage buff should be higher than the warlock's equivalent damage buff but won't apply to the team (to compensate for the increased damage). When the player reloads or uses all the ammunition in the clip the buff is lost (if a weapon has an auto-reload perk such as the Wardiff Coil any auto-loaded ammunition won't be damage buffed). These two changes alter the dynamic in a way that makes the class ability feel more on par with the other two classes, and increases the viability of these skills for use in both a PvE and PvP environment.

  • I like damage boosted auto reload clip. but mainly just because I hate what it is now. I also really like something like a defense debuff dagger. the defense debuff would be a team ability, but since it only helps the team because the enemy is weaker, not make guardians better. I think it fits with the hunter archtype and personality just fine.

    • I would be satisfied if bones came back or something that does what they do but also significantly increases your run speed... Or maybe bones adds a jump and an extra dodge, where as frost boots increase max sprint speed, and of course when they bring back multitool.... Here's the thing... There was a fair discussion in d1 as to rather or not titans should be the fastest class.... In destiny 2, as little as the class has going for it, the hunter needs to be able to run fast than any other class because right now it's less mobile in air then any other class, less less mobile on ground then any other class, and has weaker abilities then any other class. Making it faster then the other classes is not unfair.

      • I main a hunter and there needs to be a double up on dodge. An exotic that provides double or triple dodges. An exotic that adds an arc charge to dodge just like the titan type exotic for D2. Start equalizing abilities and exotics for the hunter and warlock. The hunter deserves more than a few weak abilities and exotics and jokes about eating sandwhiches!

        • I'd be happy if they just gave it a brief period of iFrames and two stacks. That would at least make it worth SOMETHING. Right now it's a heaping pile of wet, steaming, pudding-like turd.

          • I think it'd be pretty cool if the hunter could dodge through and deactivate Titan barriers and warlock AOEs.
