HONESTLY why in the hell are there still quests that entail killing enemies to acquire certain kind of items present in the game?
These are ancient history RPG elements and have no place in modern RPGs.
What I absolutely hated about Destiny was having other players around. Because they messed around with said type of quests.
Now, this isn't the players' fault, it's the game design to blame. It is these exact stupid quests that turn cooperative gameplay
Take example in Guild Wars 2 - say you decided to help a fellow out, you just jump in, start whacking enemies or help collect straw or whatever - and when you did indeed help out a brother, you both gained bonus XP just for being near each other
This is what we need in Destiny 2
Not all these elements covered in cobwebs! Who gives a damn about collecting items anymore?! Why should I feel bashful for killing the exact type of enemies a friend is trying to kill, just because we don't have the same quest?
Either make it so, that all players within a reasonable range receive the benefits of the work a guardian is doing nearby, or plain and simple scrap any and all activities that aren't in a way AOE for all guardians (Events are just fine, bounties consisting of collecting items or killing majors are not)
EDIT: Have just watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5QlGmv8-5c and took notice that devs acknowledged the public events as one of the most exciting pieces of content and have decided to support this activity more with weekly public events at certain destinations. Which is basically what I was hoping for

Good thing Destiny isn't an RPG
-
Yes, yes. That's why I think it shouldn't take inspiration from MMORPGs (especially the older ones)
-
I want to "Become Legend" with others, not alone.
Chrome to the Bone!!!
You made sense until you said it was bad to have other players around...
-
But it's not a personal trait, the thing is that the gameplay didn't exactly promote being happy about other's helping you out. Imagine - you pick up a bunch of bounties. You pick up: Kill 10 Fallen Majors, Patrol the Cosmodrome, Create Ortbs using Specials etc. Now, bounties aren't much fun, so you decide to as many of them as possible at once. So you go into Cosmodrome Patrol and go about hunting those Fallen Majors. But find out other's are doing the same thing. What would take some amount of time now takes 2x or 3x more time, because another person is killing them. And you don't gain anything from that. Unless you guys are in a fireteam. But forming fireteams on PS4 is cumbersome. And maybe you don't want to form a fireteam at the moment. So you can go into orbit and return. Spending time at loading screen isn't much fun either. This is what should be remedied. Either these bounties and/or patrols and such should be counted for players who are near (so if a Fallen Major dies in the Vicinity - my counter goes up) OR These kind of quests can be scrapped altogether, and instead more fun quests may be introduced, that offer a lot more XP so that you don't have to go around doing boring "Kill X enemies" "Collect X items" errands.
-
So what, cut out public lobbies and spaces? I don't care if it takes me a few minutes longer for one bounty.
-
That's a ridiculous solution, at leas try to come up with something reasonable. What I am saying is - why do you have to spend doing something you don't enjoy as much because there are other players around, when it should actually be other way around? The more the merrier, no? Well, that's because of bounties and patrols. Some of these bounties and trophies discourage you from being around people if you want them done fast. I say these should be scrapped. And those that could be changed to carry over to the players around you should/can stay.
-
Wow people will find anything to bitch about.
-
The core mechanics of the game not supporting cooperative gameplay doesn't seem like just anything.
-
They remain in present games because they are enjoyed so much. That's why they are popular.
-
Who actually enjoys running errands in a video game? Are you implying doing the same bounties and patrols over and over is more fun than playing story missions and strikes? (That is if grinding strikes wasn't a thing).
-
"Take example in Guild Wars 2 - say you decided to help a fellow out, you just jump in, start whacking enemies or help collect straw or whatever - and when you did indeed help out a brother, you both gained bonus XP just for being near each other" Um..... Public Events.
-
Yes, but how many of them is there and how often? Would you say they are core to the cooperative experience? Honestly, the only activity where I actually felt like enjoying the cooperative gameplay were the Raids, but it was actually really annoying to keep looking for players to do raids with. Not to mention the fireteam forming was overly sluggish and clumsy.
-
This xp sharing was already in Destiny 1, what are you yelling about?
-
I also mean killing Majors, and creating orbs. If you have a spot for farming Majors and orb creating and similar bounties/quests/etc, and somebody else occupies the spot, they make it harder for you to farm it. Now, I don't think one has to become a recluse or even a misantrope just from this thing, but this does slow the whole process. That's why I'm proposing these quests shouldn't exist at all. I am sure there are more fun ways to make players earn XP
-
So are item drops if you are close enuff.... unsure what the grip is
-
I thought so too
