I've owned both and Never had a problem... And I switched to x1 when the taken king came out and still have the same disc...

People buy digital from Gamestop and other stores to redeem store credit, because they don't have a credit card, because they don't trust PSN, and because they don't want to go to the trouble of redeeming a PSN card first. They certainly don't do it because of the good prices.

Same number of digits in the code for game or card... So buy card then buy game then pre download makes the most sense imo if that is the road you're taking...

You might pre-order digital from GameStop if you don't want PSN to have your credit card. I buy PSN cards and then use my PSN wallet to buy games on PSN. Convoluted but if PSN gets hacked again, no one is stealing my payment information.
