This is why Destiny won't run at 60 fps

Bungie said they could make consoles go 60 fps, but it would cost us apparently Edit: I would never sacrifice gameplay for graphics. I'm from the Atari gen so I'm use to crap graphics. It doesn't have to be perfect graphics to be fun.

  • I wonder how many open areas and monsters there are on the pvp maps... I'm sure there are many and so pvp will also be 30 fps. In 2017... Smh

          • They could have made pvp 60 fps. None of what Mark N. mentioned is in pvp. The maps are not as big, there's only 8 people and there is no AI present. Yes it's more work, but Destiny 2 will be the only "competitive" console shooter released in 2017 that runs in 30 fps.             • Sorry to spoil the fun, but this is really a basic physics issue that people should understand. There are no frames in reality, so we are capable of seeing the world with far more acuity than any illusion running with frames involved, regardless of their rate. For Americans in particular, if we're going to continue to claim to be leaders of the Free World, we don't [i]ALL[/i] necessarily need to know the ins-and-outs of the "How" of most things, but we should actually understand the basic truths of the "What"... Remember too, there is a VERY big difference between being the "observer" (including watching the videos below) and actually interacting within your environment. I've included some actual evidence into this troll's nest via links further down (just in case you're interested in knowing the truth). Also, be sure to watch them in at least 720p, or else it is your display that's bottlenecking at a lower frame rate.                 • Frame rate affects aiming precision. I for one don't play like a spaz, skilled precise aiming is important to me. I have no need for 4K, but frame rate affects gameplay.

                  If people are so sensitive about the frame rate why aren't they outright PC players and simply abandon console gaming? Uncharted 4 was 30fps in singleplayer and 60fps in multiplayer. A game you buy solely for the narrative experience and they had their framerate priorities arse ways. Yet nobody batted an eye. This 30fps thing is just more fuel to add to the fire of ignorant hate that surrounds what haters still believe to be a shoddy game from 2014, ignoring the fact that Destiny has leaped in strides since. A long as the story is good, the raid is good, patrol and exploration is more fleshed out, the hunt for loot is rewarding and the endgame itself expands beyond ye olde Raids, Nightfalls and Trials... who gives a -blam!- about anything else?

                      • "I would never sacrifice gameplay for graphics" except FPS are part of gameplay, or you wouldn't mind playing Destiny at 12fps? Now, i don't blame Bungie, or any game developer in that regard, i blame MS/Sony for their shitty weak ass hardware, since the beginning these consoles had already been rather weak, and it just keeps on showing as more cases like D2 pop up. And it doesn't help their revisions (Pro and X) are only made for 4k in mind and not pushing more fps. Welp, good thing a PC version exists now.

                          People say its the industry standard, but it's hard for me to think of any other open world games that run at 60fps. Edit: I meant on console

                            • Look. They've already, and in no uncertain terms, in plain english, just now, stated they were lying about their original reasoning. I have a six year old gpu that's marginally better than a ps4 and riiiight around the line of a ps4 pro. It can't do 4k graphics because the rendering is significantly more load. Can it do 60 fps? It can do 110 - 130 fps. So lets look at what we know about Bungie's mentality. Destiny 1. "We AREN'T using skill based match making!"... Then they get caught red handed and after months finally grumbling come out to say "okay fine sure we are." Destiny 1. "There is no strictly hardware, software, or networking reason why Last Gen players and Current Gen players cannot play with each other on the same network, preventing last gen players from being isolated from their friends who are on current gen consoles. The reason we did not allow this cross play was simply because we chose not to. We found that crit zones at extreme range would pop in at 1 pixel on a ps3, but 4 pixels on a ps4, which would give a distinct advantage to anyone who played the game on a ps4, so rather then allow crossplay, we divided the two to preserve fairness in the crucible" Yes. They actually said that. Also. Lets be honest. It was so that they could sell you the same game twice, once on ps3, once on ps4 if you upgraded your hardware. But that's not the reason they gave. So we know that 1) bungie lies when it suits them. And that 2)they place the fairness of their PVP above all else in the game, even tearing apart peoples relationships with their friends in order to preserve "Fairness". I am telling you now man. I know people are desperate to defend bungie. And frankly, I'm expecting their ninja team to come in and delete my post for telling the truth... But the reality is, now that they have admitted their original excuse was a lie... In two months, someone's going to tear the code apart, and find out exactly where Destiny 2's framerate cap for ps4 pro is, and find the game doesn't need it at all to play, in fact that it can play just fine without it... And Bungie's press release will be "We regret misleading our valued fanbase, but we had to make this decision to guarantee the fairness of our PVP arena, playtest after playtest proved that while 4k rendering had little to no effect, 60 fps on pro vs 30 fps on standard provided a significant advantage to players using mid gen hardware. In the interest of fairness we decided the best solution was to cap both at 30 frames per second even though the pro and mid gen xbone hardware were capable of rendering at 60 at hd, or 30 at qhd. We regret the anger this has caused to our fans but we will not be uncapping framerate at this time in the interest of maintaining fairness in crucible." The quote "You can spend as much money as you want, to go as fast as you want," tells you all you need to know abut their point of view. For console. They don't want you buying an advantage. They want a unified experience no matter if it damages the end user experience. He's saying "We can't really do anything about pc players so if you want to buy an advantage, do it there." I'm telling you man. It's going to happen. And that's the response you're going to get.

                              • I'm sorry but I find that reason to be total BS. PS4 pro and xbox one x are more than capable of being able to do so. The developers are simply not familiar enough with the tech on those systems combined with the fact that the tools they are using are for the most part the same ones from D1. Which were noted to be rather old. I personally don't care either way as frame rate isn't as important as a good connection and good response time. I just dislike poor excuses.

                                • I never even thought of that, having PvP at 60FPS. A lot of games are doing that now and it would totally work. I really wish it was a thing. PS4Pro and Xbox X could definitely do the PvP at 60FPS.

                                  • I'm not necessarily upset with 30 fps and am excited for D2 regardless of that, but I find a problem with Bungie wanting to push their PvP as competitive when 60 fps is a must for any fps competitive multiplayer. If they truely wanted to make PvP good and focused on it, then they would have done 60 fps. In this day and age, you can't have an esport level competitive fps multiplayer game without 60 fps.
