Your post is misleading
When the Charlottesville protests erupted two weekends ago, ESPN executives -- for better or worse -- wondered if there might be an issue on their hands.
With Robert E. Lee suddenly back in the news, they feared Robert Lee, a young, new play-by-play announcer assigned to the Virginia-William & Mary game on opening weekend would show up in Twitter memes and posts on Web sites like Awful Announcing or Deadspin. They were worried that his big moment, even on a lightly watched game, might turn into a national joke.
According to an ESPN executive, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, ESPN asked Lee if he would be more comfortable calling another game but gave him the option to stay. Lee chose to switch assignments, and ESPN accommodated him.

“We collectively made the decision with Robert to switch games as the tragic events in Charlottesville were unfolding, simply because of the coincidence of his name,” the company said in a statement.
Not really, though. Yes the announcer agreed and they got it sorted, but they explicitly pulled him because of his name.
Yes the announcer agreed and they got it sorted, but they explicitly pulled him because of his name.
He had the option to stay and cover the game, and didn't. ESPN didn't force him out of it.

Even companies like ESPN are trying to toe political lines and doing their best to not get meme'd on.
the whole country is walking on eggshells because
Yes, because neonazis -blam!-ing killed someone a couple weeks ago. We absolutely should be walking on eggshells.
Yes, because neonazis -blam!-ing killed someone a couple weeks ago. We absolutely should be walking on eggshells.
We were tiptoeing for years, Max, cut that bullshit. Cops were ambsuhed in NY, Dallas, and Baton Rouge. Lunatic anarchists have taken over college campuses in Berkeley and Washington. Anyone who dissents is doxxed and their employers harassed until they get fired. Could you stop being so -blam!-ing one-dimensional all the goddamn time?

Don't let this distract you from the fact that ESPN itself is idiotic. They routinely do dumb things. In this case in an effort to avoid an issue about something they felt they needed to make a statement about it and in turn made a huge freaking issue about it. Not even pissed really about what they did if it was a mutual agreement but they made a huge freaking deal out of it when people would have never even noticed.

If I was an exec, I'd say that too, for legal reasons.
If I was an exec, I'd say that too, for legal reasons.
Well unless you have some other sources claiming otherwise, I'm not sure why we'd assume this isn't the case.

Not misleading at all. I pulled my title off of several online articles. The fact remains the same. This is sad that we are as a society even doing this.
Not misleading at all. I pulled my title off of several online articles. The fact remains the same.
And the anonymous source's information was corroborated? Edit: damned spell check
Well, has Robert Lee contradicted the statement?
-
Not to my knowledge, but there is that saying, "don't bite the hand that feeds you."

And we know this was done....how?
And we know this was done....how?
Because reporting otherwise is unethical.
