This review has 100% nailed the beta

I agree with this review article 100%. This guy nailed it. https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2017/07/20/from-cooldowns-to-weapon-loadouts-destiny-2-has-hurt-pve-to-help-pvp/#24ac5f9c1580 Unfortunately me and several players in our clan have already canceled our pre order of the game. I have logged 1657 hours = 9 weeks 6 days 1 hour 3 minutes 44 seconds in Destiny 1 playing the PVE and PVP of the game. I can not justify paying $125.00 for a game that is broken from the start by favoring one part of the game over the other.

  • Not sure I fully agree with the article. Yes there seems to be a major focus on PvP but I think the changes weren't completely without PvE in mind. Destiny 1 you were way too overpowered for PvE, the only things that made those story missions and strikes and raids hard were the mechanics (none in the story and strikes hence it was not hard - everyone just ran through everything). I feel now with increased cooldowns and having special and heavy combined, the PvE content will be much more difficult and rewarding. You'll have to plan when to use your super and grenades, not just throw them around while walking through a battle knowing it'll come back in 2 minutes. For everyone that enjoyed that, I can see why you think Destiny 2 will suck since its not gonna be a quick walk in the park anymore. Enemy difficultly hasn't increased at all which I'm disappointed with but at least I felt we aren't the overpowered guardians of Destiny 1. Most missions in Destiny 1 I'm fairly sure you all ran through, not caring about living, holding the special weapon and knowing your rockets were there if you in a tight situation or just put up a bubble. There was no real feeling of being in a tight corner, no desperation, no urge for to really try to win - I could do anything and would be pretty sure I'd clear the mission because heavies and abilities just dominated the PvE content. So that's why I feel these changes may make the story and PvE content more intense and rewarding hopefully. It'll be a much more tactical approach to the stories. As for PvP, the changes are spot on noted in the Forbes article. But the increase in primary usage will def urge a more strategic approach to the matches which is gonna be good. Alrite my 2 cents haha.

    • Totally agree, even something as fundamental as movement feels like a downgrade. Add to that the downgrade of pvp from 6v6 to 4v4. What a joke. Sequels are supposed to be better. Typical bungle.

      • This beta is actually just a test of the technical changes to server and users in the system. I don't think the content they gave us is anything like what destiny2 is going to be, honestly they trolled everyone and purposely mislead you all.

            • People say they're not going to buy D2 because pvp and pve are not separated but played 100's of hours of D1 with exactly that system and somehow we're supposed to take them seriously or care if they stick to their word?

              • You people are PATHETIC!!!!! BETA PEOPLE, BETA! Do you t hi k they are going to ahow us everything in the game now?!?! NO they are just testing the infrastructure. Bungie is damned if they do and damned if they don't. I agree there could be a little more content but on the other hand I want to experience the whole game when it comes out. Anyone that thinks this is the final product is an idiot!!!! There is still 2 months til the game releases and Bungie WILL fix whatever they see thru the gameplay AND what they see thru this forum. Those of you that feel the need to cancel your preorder go right ahead, I'm SURE Destiny will still do just fine.

              • I agree with what this guy is saying in this article. I wish Bungie would separate PvP and PvE more. Make the regen time less in PvE. We all know it can be done (Daybreak Strikes and Mayhem). A real simple fix would have been to simply reduce the amount of ammo received for certain weapon types in PvP. People wouldn't use a shotgun or sniper as a primary if they only received 2 shots with it per ammo drop. People wouldn't go on machine gun rampages if they only received 10-15 shots instead of 35+. People wouldn't go on sword swinging sprees if they only got 5 swings.

"This review has 100% nailed my thoughts on the beta." Tifify I've put in 1,964 hours into this game, I bashed the hell out of it in its last year, but I will be coming back full time for it. Posting a Forbes review warrants a mute.

                    • Agreed. D2 is boring. PvP is balanced, finally, but boring nonetheless. The first story mission was extremely fun, but it was the first story mission. In d1, the first story mission is fun, but look how the rest of the "story" turned out. The strike followed the same strike formula as D1 strikes and the boss fight could be compared to boss fights in the earliest video games. Big guy to shoot at with a lot of health with generally a few different stages of the fight and at some point, smaller guys come out to help. *yawn* Unfortunately, this beta didn't deliver enough to make me interested in the fill game and I will not be there on those first few weeks of release. Maybe later if the rest of the game looks fun, but as of right now, D2 PvE looks like it's going down the same path as D1. But hey, atleast PvP is balanced.

                    • Not sure the game is trying to favor one side or the other, I think they're trying to find a balance so both can work. It's incredibly hard to please very different gaming styles but Destiny wants to be the go to for all. It might end up being average across the board. After playing for a little last night, it felt they did take the fun factor down a notch or two. Weapons/movement game mechanics did not feel as sharp and intuitive as in D1. Would not blame it on the fact it's a beta, I recall loving my shinigami green scout in vanilla beta which made me feel invincible (execpt with the "?" dudes roaming around lol). It felt so good to handle whereas none of the guns I tried last night had that sort of perfect balance. The scouts actually made me sad. Not sure if the 4v4 will be the only option in the future, but if so, that is a huge downgrade. What made Destiny so fun was 6v6 matches with crazy space magic, often a bit chaotic and unpredictable, and so different from all the shooters out there already catering to the competitive crowds. I can't say I see this game as a pinnacle of MLG competitiveness. Nothing to do with change or adapting, anyone can adapt or learn to play tactical. But it feels scripted and there will be very few opportunities for average players to feel heroic if they stray from the script. Even in Quickplay there are rules to be followed or your team will be experiencing wipe+mercy in less than five minutes. No idea how Luke Smith can call the current PvP as poker/book club night, more like chess night with Casparov, not my idea of relaxing after a long day at work. The competitive playlist is most definitely for teams, not lone wolf, and as such would not touch it with a ten foot pole. Also about those grenades, stickies are stickies and you're not sticking the enemy with water balloons, as it currently feels. Make them less available or tracking, but for the love of explosion if I stick a guy 2 feet away, shouldn't have to unload half a clip in his face to kill him. Halo grenades were deadly, if you knew where, when and how to aim them. Will play again tonight, but overall feeling is the studio needs to make some choices and realize it will be a constant struggle trying to please every gamer style in one game.
Found the strike a complete bore compared to Sepiks. Again, only one way to succeed. Dictating how players play all the time limits replay value. Maybe it was because of it being so confined as opposed to a larger map which hopefully will be in final game.
• I concur. Weapon system was better in D1. This feels really bland. And guess what. It's the same 4 weapons being used just like in D1. No one is going to use submachine guns. All I've seen is Nergal, Scathelocke, Nightshade and those 2 handcannons. Scouts suck. Sidearms are a waste of slot. Grenade launchers suck. It feels to me like when a new boss takes over and tries to systematically change everything within the workplace include the stuff that isn't broken or works great. That being said, I'll get it. I'll play it but I like D1 way more.

                    • Assuming that there will be no major changes to the Beta I agree 100% with the article. As much as I enjoy to play PVP, the recent changes in D1 took so much fun out of the game to accommodate PVP - and this goes way further now in D2. I don't understand why they don't separate the two game modes more. You could have your super charge in 10 min in PVP and 5 min in PVE. If a grenade is not longer to one kill another Guardian, cool, but pls make it blow up a bunch of Dregs...

                      • For those who don't know what Forbes magazine does and why it's reviews hold weight they need to think again. Forbes is probably journalism at it's best because they gauge situations on macro level with financial perspective in their mind. They don't take petty sides like us and most of their journalists are composed and good judge of situation. If this was a review written on some morning train tabloid by some newbie journalist I won't be worried but Forbes isn't the celebrity OK magazine with free lipstick for hairbrained readers so Bungie should take it seriously.

                      • Most of the pve problems have been fixed. Also the ability cooldowns will be attached to your armor, we just didn't have access to that in the beta. Half of this article addresses problems that have already been fixed and the other half is baseless arguments.
