D2 Scout rifles are currently pointless

So I've been playing more of the demo today and really used the scout rifle because it's been my least favorite since initially playing it at the reveal and I'm not impressed. Vanilla scouts were great because of their ability to keep firing longer than hand cannons. As Destiny progressed, magazine sizes dwindled making scouts that could punish longer (MIDA, Chaos) the best pve options. So far in D2 scouts and hand cannons have the same magazine sizes and I love, love, love the hand cannons, but there's literally no reason to ever take a scout over a hand cannon or Pulse when the hand cannon does way more damage and pulse rifles have way bigger magazines. Scouts in D2 need to have magazines in the 18-22 round range to have any purpose at all.

    Scout rifles are pretty good at sniper rifle ranges (Does Not Compute more specifically). At medium ranges, accuracy and damage can be improved (on Black Scorpion). It seems that Bungie wants us to prioritize our weapon loadouts more and put a bigger emphasis on what role each weapon type and archetype has in combat.

      Scouts were shit...they need to introduce a DMR as a high end scout with more punch and smaller mag, which would help solve the sniper=heavy debacle. Oh and buff the scouts ... Oh wait, I just asked Bungie to buff something...I'll show myself out...

      I think I have over 200,000 hand cannon kills in destiny and loves them in d2, even when they they shot ghost bullets. Hand cannons in d2 blow. They felt inconsistent, maybe due to range fall off. Then again so does ability charge times, 2 primary weapons, no power ammo, jumping and bullet sponges in d2. Not impressed with much in the beta. Cool sounds...cool environments. Mmmm...that's bout all I got for cool shit in d2 I just looked. I don't have over 200,000... I only have 196,189. Never mind, I don't know what I'm talking about.

      • They added bloom to scout rifles THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ACCURATE!!!!! Why am I being punished for wanting to use scout rifles? They have always been my favorite for pvp and pve! The slow firing one only does 37 damage for a body shot, meaning you need two body shots to take out some one critically wounded. With that slow of firing they can run away too easy. You can't punish snipers for peaking any more either! I miss ****ing on snipers(especially in trials)

        • I have high hopes for Scout Rifles. If you recall in the IGN First about the map Vostok, during the Titan gameplay portion they were using what looked like a battle-worn DIS-43 and that thing was very accurate and hit hard just like its D1 counterpart. Hoping that the beta scouts are just garbage-tier.

            The one scout I used looks and sounds cool, but yes... it currently shoots tickles. Or butterfly wings. Or kitten whiskers. Whichever.

            • 15-17 would probably be OK. That's about what they had in D1. A little more hitting power would be nice, too.

            • Just please tell me this is not the same game you played at the event. It just feels bla to me. Slow. And still the SAME -blam!-ING LAG IN PVP. Was the "new system" not meant to address this?

            • Yeah...bunch of fun using nothing but primaries for pve. Apparently when Gary took out the tower, not only did all the decent weapons get destroyed out of my vault, I bumped my head and forgot I used to have 3 supers, was powerful, and never apparently had a machine gun. The guns in the beta is nothing compared to the real elephant in the room. PVE has been severely sacrificed for PVP.

                • now have had playing a few days with the scouts i actually am pretty happy with them. clip is small but i think that coincides with not allowing a player to become too campy and rack up multiple long range kills without a chance to be challenged. the scouts now penalize you for missing headshots, which is good for the game. so far the common reaction of the player base is because that want to cruise through the game and be rewarded just for playing.

                    You must have play lots of control because scouts in general sucks there. Pulse, H.canons and auto rules there. In competitive Scouts make a difference especially "Does not Compute". Mag size completely agreed on that.

                    • Scouts in Destiny 2 are a joke. I use scout rifles exclusively, the accuracy and magazine size are pathetic!! Bungie has dumbed down weapons, as a way to "balance" pvp. Bungie trying to balance pvp and trials is going to be the death of Destiny 2, just look what it did to the first game!!

                    • Black scorpion is not bad in pvp especially on mid town where you have longer sightlines. I agree on the mag size though.

                      • Yep. The only place where scouts actually shine through is long range (as snipers aren't a thing atm). In pvp, there is no such thing as long range, and there hasn't been for almost 3 years now. Nothing outside of the vanilla maps and a couple of y1 dlc maps have had any sort of actual long range that wasn't 1 spot on the map. It looks like D2 will continue Bungie's erection for cqc maps.

                        I'm having a hard time understanding why Bungie thinks that competitive PvP money is going to outweigh the loss of millions of customers because of the changes.

                          • I agree on the mag size issue. However all the guns are watered down a bit in some way ( mostly talking about pvp damage ). After playing around 50+ games now across all three characters I've come to some pretty founded opinions. 1. The obvious issue of slow charging supers leads to a rush at the end to use it if your lucky to even get it. All roaming supers are really easy to kill even by yourself which I think needs addressing. I've walked backwards and taken out plenty already before they can even get close! 2. GOLDEN GUN IS OVER WAY TOO QUICKLY! Seriously the last 2 times I've popped it knowing someone was around the corner they've just jumped over me or ducked away and by the time I turn around my super is over! 3. The two pulse rifles are easily the best weapons to win a gunfight at pretty much any range..particularly the nightshade with the new version of reactive reload. 4. Power weapons, not all were created equal! The main ingredient fusion is amazing and is better than a god roll saladins vigil... love it! The shotgun is pretty good, sniper is decent if you can use it. Now we move onto the others, the rocket launcher is a joke..You get 1 rocket. The grenade launcher is pretty crappy honestly, and the linear fusion sniper is ok but the charge time makes kinda inferior the the actual sniper. 5. Smg's... so they're cool, I want to like them really I do! They probably have the least amount of AA out of all the guns I'd say, they just feel so inconsistent! I feel like they need to increase the stability and AA on them...or give them a decent increase in mag size to accommodate the fact that half your shots spray to the left and or right of enemies from the slightest movement. 6. Scouts, increase the mag size and up the precision multipler on them. They should rule the range game and right now they are beat out by the pulse rifle because of these smaller map sizes. Overall I'm enjoying the beta and like playing this new version of destiny, definitely welcome some changes though in regards to ability and super cool downs. Also maybe a slight increase to weapon damage across the board.

                            • Playing the beta was like D1 weapon balancing all over again. The only gun that seems effective at all ranges is the handcannon, and it is a 3 body shot weapon on red bars just like the sniper rifle. Welcome to the D2 handcannon meta.

                              • I, personally, think that the scout rifles in the beta are not as well done as in the original game. I'm a huge user of scout rifle and they now seem...watered down. The hand cannons, however, have been vastly improved. Which I really like. Bungie, can u please help us with the scout rifles?
