Just finished Horizon zero Dawn *Possible Spoilers*

{{{{{{{{. WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!! }}}}}}}} ***************************************************************** DONT READ IF YOU WANT AN UNTAINTED EXPERIENCE !!! ***************************************************************** Just finished it and wanted to make a post where those who have finished it could talk openly about the game, it's gameplay and story.
I sunk about 75 hours into it on my first play through and loved every bit of it. I got a 97% completion on it so I'm not sure what I missed. I did every side quest, found all collectibles (with the exception of various notes or data), cleared all corruption zones, bandit camps, tall necks , tutorial challenges and hunting lodges. I even got that shield weave suit and the mysterious boxes (socks and all 💩). I also hit level 50 and unlocked all skills. First off I loved the story. I hope there's going to be a novel for it because it's quite engrossing. I played it on the Pro with the 4K setting and it looked gorgeous. The combat was extremely satisfying and I loved switching gear on the fly and thinking fast when facing several enemies at once. The sense of discovery when delving into the old facilities was great as searched every cranny of those places. Questions I have: I wonder if Elisbets home was discoverable during the game? Vanasha says to you after saving the little prince to see her later so she can reward you properly but I couldn't find her after that. I wonder if those are just words or if I missed something. I wonder how many years had passed from the event to Aloys birth. Those children in the holos, were they the start of the tribes? How many times was a clean slate done? I wonder if Sylens is really a bad guy? He also sounds like Zavala.... and the guy from John Wick who works the front desk at the hotel. Complaints? Not much. Just a few things here and there but not deal breaking: Sometimes during combat when I was trying to get a shot off and the enemy was too close it would heavy attack instead. Would like a "sell all junk " button for stuff that was good for selling to merchants only. Never really found a need for any of the the armor outside of the stealth, shadow Carja and shield weave. Kind of wished I could put the shield weave on any armor I wanted from an appearance standpoint. They added the ability to apply face paint and focus changes but you only unlock them all if you complete ultra hard mode. Honestly once I go through ultra hard mode I think I'll be done with it all so I wouldn't be able to really enjoy it.
Just want to hear other folks thoughts on the game. Theories, likes, dislikes etc.

  • It's game+ those are probably the trophies you need. You need to finish game+ on hard, very hard, then ultra hard. I'm currently doing ultra hard

    • You get the face paint and other Focuses if you beat NG+ on Hard or UHM. I loved the story, the acetic, atmosphere, the setting and really just about everything. Some of the side quests were quite good. The thing I loved most is that it actually made me want to do the main quest. I wanted to know what happened and why it all happened. I liked how the game didn't hold your hand too much with the combat as well. It's wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy. It was a nice challenge where you could never really just shut off your brain and mash a single button. Shooting robots, crafting arrows, placing traps and sneaking around all felt great.

      • Its story is one of the best i've saw/read in a long time, and it's a great experience. The only problem for me, though, is that it's one of those games that i wouldn't want to play again because i feel like it would take away from the first play through. (i'm weird like that) Can't wait for the DLC, though. Also, i hope they take their time with the sequel and don't rush it out just because this game sold well. They need to take their time like Naughty Dog are with TLOU2

          • From what I have seen (through the trophy system), this game looks like it is easy to platinum. Most games have very low platinum ratios sometimes as low as 0.1%, usually around the 1%-3% mark. HZD is sitting around 8%+ at this moment.

              • The more I think about it, the more it bothers me how silly the entire premise of the game is. An army of AI machines that somehow bypassed their safeguards and went rogue is silly enough, but then they can somehow mass reproduce at incredible rates, and sustain themselves with biomass? Like no one looked at that and recognized it could potentially be a problem? Yeah right. They should've portrayed Faro as a deranged psychopath who did it deliberately. At least that's believable. Still, I enjoyed it for what it was. It's just one of those things that maybe you shouldn't think about too closely.

                •
Questions I have:
I wonder if Elisbets home was discoverable during the game?
Haven't really thought about this. You do eventually find her, maybe check around that area, see f there's any clues?
I wonder how many years had passed from the event to Aloys birth.
Ive read it's over 1000.
I wonder if Sylens is really a bad guy? He also sounds like Zavala.... and the guy from John Wick who works the front desk at the hotel.
He will most probably be the main antagonist in any sequel. He's power Hungry to the point he's more than happy to use you for his own personal gain. And you're correct on both points. Lance Reddick is his name and he's in John Wick and the voice of Zavala. He's also in Quantum Break.
Never really found a need for any of the the armor outside of the stealth, shadow Carja and shield weave. Kind of wished I could put the shield weave on any armor I wanted from an appearance standpoint.
Definetly would love to add that weave to any armor. Once you have it, all other armor is pointless.
• The story was fantastic with great characters and a very interesting setting Gameplay is very well done with variety of ways to approach your situation Game was beautiful The highest 9/10 I could give. I just wish you could interact with the settlements more like you could in the Witcher 3

To answer some of your questions:

I wonder if Elisbets home was discoverable during the game?
It's not. Elizibet's home is in the forbidden west, in Carson City, Nevada. The area in the game spans parts of Colorado and Utah.
Vanasha says to you after saving the little prince to see her later so she can reward you properly but I couldn't find her after that. I wonder if those are just words or if I missed something.
Just words. She's gone from the game until the final battle after her questline. It could be argued that her assistance in the final battle is her returning the favor, however.
I wonder how many years had passed from the event to Aloys birth. Those children in the holos, were they the start of the tribes?
The Faro Plague began around the 2064. By 2066, the surface was barren. By 2068, all marine life was eradicated. GAIA began gestating humans in 2363. They were released roughly 20 years later. In 3020, GAIA Prime explodes. As a final act, GAIA initiates Aloy's gestation process. Jiran, the Sun King, sees the explosion as an omen and initiates the Red Raids. Over the subsequent year, Rost's family is killed, he becomes a Death-Seeker and is eventually given custody of Aloy after she is born in 3021. The bulk of the game begins in 3040.
How many times was a clean slate done?
It's never stated but it's assumed GAIA was successful and the protocol was never enacted. (meaning this is HADES's first attempt)
I wonder if Sylens is really a bad guy? He also sounds like Zavala.... and the guy from John Wick who works the front desk at the hotel.
As people have stated, he has the same voice actor. Sylens isn't "evil", he's dangerously curious and arrogant. He feels that knowledge is a gift worthy of tremendous sacrifice. He only helped HADES so that he could learn from it. When he realized what HADES was up to, he set out to stop it (but not destroy it). Can't learn if you're dead. He now seems to think he has HADES contained and is on a new quest to learn more secrets of the ancient world. Of all the things he's learned, when to quit while you're ahead isn't one of them.
I agree with a "sell all junk" button. Clearing inventory was always a hassle. I wish there was more to hacking machines, particularly the aerial ones. I feel like being able to use one as a drone to scout areas from above would have been extremely useful. I know why they didn't (it was explained that you're not rewriting their base protocols, only altering their identification subroutines to identify you as ally), but I feel it was a missed opportunity. Hopefully in future installments they'll expand on it.

                        •
On the topic of Sylens, I must say I absoutely love that character archetype. At first glance, everything seems way too coincidental. He helped create the main enemies of the game, he just so happened to find the one person who can help him, and he just so happened to have a way to imprison HADES, at the end of the game. But none of that was a coincidence, aside from finding HADES in thr first place. You know how villains always have those big evil plans, that are super complicated, and are always stopped by the hero? For once, a game had us working for the guy with the super elaborate plan. From the second HADES declared him dead, Sylens probably got to work on the imprisonment device, and as it became clear Aloy was going to be taking HADES down, he disguised the signal transmitter as a spear, which he offered as a gift.
I thought that was cool, anyway. I played on Hard, I think. Never managed to get Shield Weave, but did about everything else.
