Was it worth your $170+?

To any of you who have stuck around since the beginning, that's the price you've paid to enjoy Destiny without being left behind. Now imagine any Silver purchases you've made. Did you buy any collector editions? There were two of them. Did you get left behind on last gen and had to upgrade? That's a new console and a copy of Destiny... at the very least. Don't give me the money vs time aspect. Give me your honest idea on if the money was worth it for the product you got. Also, remember that nothing carries over to the next game. Keep in mind that the DLC was disk locked content. Keep in mind that you saw DLC in the trailers. Let's also not forget how each DLC took viable content away. Let's not forget about the weapon/armor reskins as well as the constant reaquiring of old gear. Oh, yeah, and how about the "limited edition" microtransactions that go along with those holiday events? Just remember what you paid for. Was the product worth it? The content? Not the friends or the "priceless" memories. No. Destiny itself. Maybe if you all would look at games for what they are, you will see why we are at an all time low for the gaming scene. We should all think before buying that next DLC or preordering that next hyped up game.

Maybe if you all would look at games for what they are, you will see why we are at an all time low for the gaming scene.
Thing is, Games these days are made to be more than just that, "Games". With the online world, Games are made to connect to each other. They are made to find new players to play with, to forge new friendships and clans, to experience moments that burn themselves into your memory. They are made so that we all can talk about it, share our feelings about it on a forum like this, no matter where we're actually located on Earth (and beyond). Through this game, I've met amazing people, been to amazing places. One of the people was you, Omar. Look at the people who meet up in places just because this game connects us all. That is what makes the Games worth these days, not just the product itself. I agree, for the money itself, the content isn't enough. But do you buy chocolate because of the ingredients, or because it tastes good and makes you happy? If you disregard the bigger picture on everything, then literally nothing is worth it's money today. The world is way too expensive these days. Might as well invest your money in something that makes me happy and entertains me for several years, may that be a videogame and console or a small car. That my opinion, at least. The 1000€+ I've spent on Destiny? Absolutely worth it.

    • If we exclude the 2000 + hours I've spent on this game (way more than ALL the games I've ever played on Xbox), the friends I have made (including the clan that I stay in touch with even when I don't play) and the memories, then I would say YES it is worth playing because I enjoyed it Do I care that gear I got playing D1 will not carry over into D2? NO. I played for fun not gear Based on my experience in D1, I will still buy D2 and be perfectly fine if it cost me a similar amount even if I start from scratch YES. It was worth the money

      • I've had bar tabs that were more than that. So I've spent more on things that didn't last long at all. Yes playing since October 2014 was worth $170 to me anyway.

        • I have spent $200+ on this game. Yes, I complain A LOT. However, in spite of its many shortcomings, the investment was worth the price. Destiny remains the one game I play almost everyday. Back when the lasted Halo was released, I spent $60 on it and only played the game for about 4 days before I got bored and went back on Destiny. So yes the investment was worth it, considering how much I play the game. Even if there's many things I complain about.

          • Of course and I don't regret one bit of it, hell I got a good 4-5 friends to buy the game and or I bought for them bc I loved the game so much. Do I regret it of course not, best thing that ever happened to me. It came at the perfect time to I was tired of gta and annoyed with black ops 3 and my PS3 had short circuited so I needed a game for my PS4 so destiny was a great fit

You bet it was worth it. I spent the money then some and I play this game daily. And I don' t care how anybody wants to spin it, the 45 days and 10 hours roughly that I have into this game is by far more than I have ever spent in any other game ever. The $$$ I spent on this game total I could have bought, played and discarded other games, games that I could say I played but aren't on my radar anymore. So I'm glad to say that the $$$ invested here in destiny is STILL paying off for me. Not to mention all the other things Destiny has brought to me that as a year one player I never anticipated my $$$ getting me... i.e. My clan and friends I have made, this game getting me through. Some seriously dark and rough patches in my life... just to name a few. So again the answer is YES, what I have paid is worth it to me. YES if you want to label me a fanboy you can because this game means something to me. Yes I have a life outside of this game, a job, a family, other interests, but I also have the destiny shirts, listen to several if the podcasts, and spend my fair share of time on the app, in the forums, and in my clan discord. I have been a gamer since home consoles were born. Atari is fuzzy for me but NES and forward, gaming has grown up with me, and in all that time, all those consoles, games and so forth, destiny has made it to the top of this as being the most meaningful. So thanks for asking the question, and thank you bungee for this amazing ride. I m ready for the next adventure!
POW! That just happened
I reckon I've paid around £120 over the last 3 years. Honestly - yes. I've personally enjoyed the game. I've moaned about certain bits fairly often, but I've enjoyed playing it. And genuinly - i've made some excellent friends whilst playing destiny. For 3 years of entertainment and the fact that I've made some really good friends, £120 (£40 a year) - absolutely worth it.

            • I started with TTK on Xbox one last year. Then got RoI for it. Then got a PS4 along with a copy of the collectors edition(I think that what it was called) a couple of months ago. Considering my previous hobby prior to Destiny was firearms and before that racing sport bikes, playing Destiny is very wallet friendly. Now I don't spend over $5k every year for new guns or parts.

            • Played TDB when my friend gave me his used copy to play on. Preordered the Leg edition of TTK for $60 so I could finally get the past two dlcs. Transferred to my one via the Trial version and bought the RoI standalone upgrade for $40. Personally, I'd say that RoI was only worth $20, just like the past dlc drops, since there wasn't much going for it. Shortest campaign to boot. Tons of content that should've been released last year, but was hid behind timed pay-walls. Every time a new dlc is out, they force you to upgrade in order to do all of things that you were already doing. Crucible matches, Strikes, etc. For as long as this game has lasted, with still no improvement or dedication to matchmaking, Destiny really should be just a $60-80 game, but that's just me being generous.

Here's the problem i have with this question: It assumes that we all value $170 the same way... while some of us might see that as a lot of money to spend, others don't see it that way. The more appropriate question to start might be: "How do you value $170?".... Some of us might make that money in a few hours worth of work. Others might take 3 or 4 days of work to get that money. The question of monetary value is irrelevant. The better question might just be: "Did you like Destiny?".
