I'm gonna scare you guys, there's a binary star system 8.4 light years away, Sirius a and b, Sirius b is a white dwarf and Sirius a is a large main sequence star in an elliptical orbit around Sirius a, if it were any closer at the closest point in its orbit then the Sirius b could steal mass from it, and if it stole enough mass then fusion would restart and cause a supernova, any planet within 150 light years of a supernova would become immediately and irreversibly uninhabitable, better hope nothin nudges Sirius a in the wrong direction just a little bit >:)

Naaa we would all kill our own planet before that happens.

What the heck kind of energy can move 150 light years in an instant? I'm calling shenanigans.

Editado por lMGPl_Mister_K: 2/24/2017 6:30:52 AMIt moves at near light speed, the energy would obviously take a while to travel, I ran a simulation in universe sandbox, the gamma radiation shockwave would take roughly 10 years to reach us and it would immediately strip the atmosphere freezing the planet in a wall of ice and killing 90% of all life, then another 5 years for the wall of hot plasma expanding out in all directions to reach us which would then scorch our planet to the point of being vaporized, and leave it completely lifeless, as for reaching out to 150 light years that would obviously take a lot longer, but our planet would only have 10 years, and we wouldn't know until around 8.4 years has passed since the explosion, you must also remember a supernova puts out as much energy in one second as our sun will put out in its entire 10 billion year life cycle If you do not think such energy levels exist then you do not understand just how powerful the objects around us are we are feeble little creatures who are no match for the power that exists in the vast reaches of space

I guess you never seen the show, Dark Matter.
They have a blink drive

What the heck kind of energy can move 150 light years in an instant? I'm calling shenanigans.
It uses blink

Not anymore

No you will 100% be royally -blam!-ed if Sirius b goes off there is no escaping you and all of humanity and every life form on this planet would be -blam!-ed
-
Editado por KPIO228: 2/25/2017 2:19:26 AMI mean about the blink comment, but this whole star blowing up thing is a real nice thought
-
Can't use it anymore cus it wouldn't be able to find us #safe

No sir if Sirius b type 1a's you are totally -blam!-ing screwed and you cannot escape no ifs ands or buts you are a feeble little microbe in the face OF THE POWER OF THE UNIVERSE AND YOU WILL SUBMIT AND DIE WITHOUT QUESTION
