Just started playing recently and your just kinda thrown into this world with no idea what's happening or why. Not sure if this is the right section to ask this, so pardon my ineptness here.

Editado por Patriot121: 2/27/2017 12:21:29 AMThe universe is caught in a state of conflict where two competing philosophies/forces/entities try to bring about what they view as the perfect existence. The Darkness says all weakness must be cut away until only perfection remains, that perfecting being the Darkness itself. The Light says the perfect universe lies in cooperation where all sentient species work together in a state of being that's basically identical to our concept of Utopia The Champion of the Light is know as the Traveler. It goes around and uplifts civilizations to try and enact the will of the Light. The most recent place it's done that is Earth with humans. The Traveler is pursued by the Darkness, as it knows the Traveler is all that stands between it and certain victory. The Darkness attacks and a series of events known as The Collapse occurs. The Traveler and the Darkness have a massive fight. Most of humanity is wiped out. The Hive led by Crota show up on the Moon. The Vex structure on Mercury, Venus, and Mars activate afte untold centuries of dormancy. Fallen come pursuing the Traveler, and wars with us as they evil eve is thieves. Surviving humans in the outer system are changed, those beyond the Reef become Jovians and those at the Reef the Awoken. Shortly afterwards the Cabal show up pursuing the now active Vex. The Traveler beats the Darkness back, but not until it's wounded so severely it enters a comatose state. It releases Ghosts to find people worthy to become Guardian's, a new weapon/soldier designed to serve in the Traveler's place until it recovers and double as the ideal counter to the Darkness' primary super weapon, the Taken. Waking up in a strange and desolate world many guardian's, at this point called "risen" or "light-wielders" succumb to the temptation of power and carve out petty kingdoms out of the ruins of earth and become warlords. Eventually Radegast forms the Iron Lords, and order of guardian's who grow as they undertake and war of unification against the various warlords. He is also the first to coin the term "guardian's." Their movement gains strength and as the age of warlords fades the Iron Lords and other guardian orders begin to shepherd the scattered remnants of humanity to a single massive City that can be more easily defended and where we can begin to rebuild. With the Battle to Six fronts the City is formed. It temporarily falls to infighting in a period known as the Faction Wars. Eventually a governing body known as the Consensus emerges led by the Speaker and saves us from ourselves. The Consensus continues to serve as a republican and ruling body, similar to a parliament or senate in the City. As the City grows we become bolder, though often to our own detriment. The Iron Lords are lost in Old Russia pursuing Golden Age tech to help us rebuild. We narrowly squeak out a victory at Burning Lake, but it emboldens us to undertake a reclamation effort on the Moon. There over a thousand guardian's die in an event one as the Great Disaster. Saint-14 disappears following his crusade against the Fallen House of Devils. The City only narrowly survived the Battle of Twilight Gap where all the Fallen banded together to wipe us out. Time passes and the City remains in a more or less stable state. We remain strong enough to repel what the enemy throws at us, but we fail to expand or truly dent our enemy's strength. A new guardian is resurrected in Old Russin (you). A uniquely powerful guardian's yeh likes of which has never been seen, and with their help the tide begins to turn.

To quote Diomedes: "We nerf......therefore we are."

Editado por Devasstator: 2/27/2017 12:48:20 AMThere is no true story. Just a serious of fragmented and nonsense tales in the universe with little to no connection or consistency across them. There is lots of lore, but lore isn't story. The story itself is awful (with ROI being the worst yet....a threat that wiped out super powerful iron lords but presents zero challenge to a single guardian.....written by a 12 year old).

Money. That is the story of destiny.

7 RespuestasEditado por Swiftlock: 2/22/2017 9:58:39 AMYou're a zombie with magical space powers brought to life by a little robot who sounds like a adult roleplaying as a naive child where the two of you are sent to commit systematic genocide against aliens and reskins of said aliens for the sake of a giant floating cue ball.

Ok, I only got a portion of the way through the comments before I cringed so hard I got a headache. Look up Myelin Games on YouTube, he has an older video that addresses this topic fairly well to help new players understand what is going on.

2 RespuestasEditado por Zelrons: 2/23/2017 8:38:22 AMWe built a wall to keep out the aliens but they keep trying to get in so go out and kill them all because that's what the cue ball wants.
Or maybe that's America. I forget.
Well you are resurrected corpse and you are trying to save the Traveller (the big white ball) from the darkness (Vex, Hive etc.) and that is basically it(for the base game anyway). The vanilla Destiny story is pretty bad but if you buy Taken King and the older DLCs that will add some more story. Rise of Iron does have a story but in my opinion it isn't very good.

2 RespuestasWell you're this powerful guardian and over the course of ~2.5 years every powerful asset you have gets taken away bit by bit.

1 RespuestaEditado por Eiffiks: 2/23/2017 12:30:36 PMWell... There's a traveller that's like a big ball. The hive want to crush our ball, the fallen want to grab it, the cabals are jealous of how big it is and the vex.... Well... They are not so much into the whole ball thing, if you know what I mean. Edit: just realised I forgot to tell you about the ghosts. It's little things the traveller produced that got expelled of it and went in search of a proper recipient to create life. Edit2: why is this game rated 'T'?!?

I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain, but if I did... And I do. But if I did...
-
Dont worry it gets worse and nothing is ever explained. We have been given nothing for 3 years and now being told D2 will be a reset Basic storytelling would have told us who the -blam!-ing stranger is by now... thats D2's story though. We will find out she doesn't have time to explain what she didn't have time to explain before. Dont worry she'll tell you to go to a planet and kill a bunch of shit though. Maybe year 10 we'll find out who she is ... it'll be behind an eververse pay wall though.

8 RespuestasEditado por IcyHorizons: 2/23/2017 8:25:16 AMDestiny takes place after an event called the collapse, this event was catastrophic in many ways, the collapse (in summarized speculation) is an event that took place after the battle in the plaguelands on which hundreds of thousands iron lords fighting to protect the city and the traveler from destruction. The ghosts,( are our link to our light that the traveler gave us ( sunsinger void Walker stormcaller essentially every subclass) after countless years the ghosts find what used to be remains of ancient warriors( again speculation) in a lore a aspect these dead warriors are iron lords. And the moment that your ghost finds you, that's where the game begins.
-
Darkness invaded the galaxy, they defeated the Guardians and pushed them back to one last city. Bungie came along, reanimated the Guardians and reduced their battle effectiveness. Guess what happens in Destiny 2!
-
11 RespuestasIt's a stolen story from a Japanese comic/manga called Heroic Age. But no one cares cause it's now an American thing. Yay for plagiarism.
-
Editado por Darth Lunchbox: 2/23/2017 1:41:43 PMYeah, the game throws you into a battle you know nothing about and that they never really explain why or how. I listened to the ghost stories podcasts, they are a good resource for story and lore of the game. And there are other resources out there as well.

4 RespuestasThe story of Destiny is that you are battling in a universe torn by the conflict of two powers. The Light, represented by the Traveler, brings life to every world it touches, while the Darkness seeks to kill all weak life until all that's left is an evolved and perfected universe. The Traveler found us and we prospered, but when the Darkness came the Traveler stood by us and was crippled, making Ghosts and Guardians to help defend the all that remained of its legacy. We fight those who work for the Darkness and those that do not work for it but would snuff out the Light anyway in a desperate war of survival. There's far more to the background of this story and the story itself that u can find out by reading the grimoires and playing all the missions, but for now I leave u with this plot summary. Our goal: to destroy the forces of Darkness and, if we can, remove the Darkness's hold in our universe. Many trials await you Guardian; many have fallen before you; but you will walk out to where no other Light has dared go, and you will reclaim what was once ours. May the Light be with you, Guardian, and may each step you take push the Darkness back
