22 RespuestasEditado por UnclePeedee: 2/8/2017 3:26:01 AMEveryone is yelling hysteria and propaganda. I repeat: America spends the 3rd highest dollar amount per student on earth and only achieves a rank of 17th. In any other business we would have already fired the entire lot.....but let me guess: throwing even more money at these bloated monuments of failure will magically produce the results we are looking for this time.... The problem we have is: #1 a lazy and entitled student body #2 a bloated and horribly destructive teachers union. The teachers union is the enemy. In what rational world or in what functioning business can a person not be punished for performing horribly and not be rewarded for performing above and beyond? On top of that you have tenure forcing schools to lay off bright young teachers who actually give a shit while keeping their elderly failing coworkers employed simply on the basis of seniority. The whole POINT of a union is to CREATE BETTER WAGES AND WORKING CONDITIONS FOR ITS MEMBERS. Period. Playing make believe and assuming that the goal of the union is to provide better conditions for STUDENTS is just the height of ignorance.

The department of education should just be dismantled. States/districts should manage themselves.

5 RespuestasEditado por Helljumper: 2/8/2017 5:57:53 AM
RIP public education and secularism in schools.
RIP public education? The US' public education has been a shit show for quite some time. It's time we just destroy it all and completely restart. This nonsense is too far gone to fix.

I just feel like the person in charge of the country's education should be educated themselves.

1 RespuestaEditado por john5550: 2/9/2017 3:40:32 PMConsidering how public education is already terrible and needs to be nuked? I don't really care.

13 RespuestasA 50/50 vote (with two republicans owning spines against) Needed pence to be the deciding vote. All i have been seeing from right wingers is either regret or super happy just because "libs lost so dur hur must be win for me" mentality Then the occasional " im sure she will do great. We need outsiders to reform".... Ignoring the fact that you just need to shell a couple million and spinless fools to work in the highest positions in government today. (2x now) #paytoplay

What's worse than DeVos' confirmation are those defending it. Their only argument is public education is a mess. I agree, but how on earth can people believe she is qualified to be secretary and improve public education?!

7 RespuestasCan she at least get rid of common core?
Does not believe in or support public school
That's the only qualification I care about.

2 RespuestasEditado por xD King Rush Dx: 2/8/2017 3:17:23 AMShe's a terrible choice and was proven so with her awful answers to the senate committee. However, typical partisan bullshit in the senate -- where the GOP is bending over for trump -- led to her confirmation. Edit: oh, and not to forget the blatant conflict of interest in the senate with her donations to numerous republicans who sat on her committee

That's embarrassing.

1 RespuestaEditado por thottie: 2/8/2017 5:17:29 AMprivate schools are religious indoctrination centers that actually perform equal or worse to public schools lmao

Common core and no child left behind was the downfall of education.

36 RespuestasEditado por The Cellar Door: 2/8/2017 2:18:55 AMEuropeans already collectively laugh at the American school system, now they'll just pity us. Before this thread devolves into people bickering about liberals and SJW's somehow, I want to say something to you all. Now, I know this is going to happen, because that's exactly what happens when you people can't find a way to defend the indefensible. This woman has no business being the Secretary of Education. This is the issue at hand. I don't want to hear about what so and so democrat did when x was in position p, I want you to recognize that this is a serious issue that extends past identity politics, and recognize that this issue is directly our president's fault. Be mature for once.

She will make owners of charters schools rich by taking money from public schools that need it.

8 Respuestas-advocate for Detroit charter school system, something which might save Detroit -member of the board of the Foundation for Excellence in Education -advocates voucher programs to get kids out of public schools into private institutions -advocates school choice -former chairwoman of the board of Alliance for School Choice and Acton Institute -head of All Children Matter PAC -runs a scholarship -brother is the founder of -blam!-ing Blackwater Guess it's all in how you look at it eh? In fact many things on that list in OP can be seen as positives. Maybe people should see how things work out instead of buying into hysteria and propaganda.

Editado por brandorobot: 2/8/2017 5:13:10 PMCheck how much money has been donated to each of them. I mean, she admitted herself that her family uses our legalized bribery system to their advantage. I just have to laugh at how this notion of ending corruption is working out.
