Exotics aren't exciting anymore

Legendary are now better than exotics how is this possible? Please give me a job in game development as your current team have no clue of what they are doing lol

    • I don't even know the name of the siva crisis exotic weapon, the day I saw what's the [i]Via Cruxis[/i] to get it and yet it is another exotic without elemental burn I just looked away I'm sorry but exotic raid based weapons had totally gone out of developer's minds.

      • They need to add additional, unique perks, or add on to the existing perks. My problem is that they aren't unique enough. A lot of them are just really boring. Monte Carlo, for example. Its perk is just that dealing damage, or getting kills, replenishes your melee energy. What if it had an additional perk where damaging an enemy with this weapon briefly increases your melee damage, and melee kills refill the magazine, and increase Monte Carlo's damage for a short time? Then we have Red Death. It's kinda shit right now, but even before that, it was just a pulse rifle with a better version of Life Support. Why not add an additional perk, or effect to the Red Death perk, where, while critically wounded, or as health gets lower, stability (or range) and rate of fire increase?

      • Destiny at one time was mainly set for PVE and many of the exotics were geared for those players. But then the PVP crowd started crying how over powered some of them were and they ended up getting nerfed into obsolescence. What they need to do is ban exotics from PVP (because lots of other weapons can do the same thing as their exotic counterparts) and put exotics back to their original state for PVE play.

        • You understand that exotics are in the same tier as legendaries, correct? Exotics are different because they have unique modifiers (and aesthetics) unique to only one version of that weapon (ex NLB is the only sniper that is bolt action iron sights with "the master" perk). Because of how drastically they can change a fight and playstyles, you only equip one weapon or armor exotic at a time. THEY ARE NOT THE BEST TIER. If they were, we would be able to wear them in every gear slot. You should confuse this system with typical MMO style end-game gear which resemble exotics in Destiny. Exotics in this game are self-explanatory, they are unique and change the balance of a game but share the same quality of a legendary.

          Exotics I use for fun in Crucible: 1. TLW (took 3 matches to complete Shindig in the Crucible) 2. NLB (never runs out of ammo) 3. Chaperone (makes naughty sounds) Complete me if I missed anything...

          • I remember year one running around doing patrols or doing VOG and someone had Ice Breaker or Gally, people were like "oh shit, you've got an exotic." The good ol days and weapons had meaning, but unfortunately people whined and cried about not having what someone else has, it's not fair, he's got one why don't I have one, blah blah blah. Before the patch that made exotics more common, getting one was extremely rare. Most people now have never played during vanilla and don't understand the struggle was real. Forever 29 was a real thing and exotics were not a dime a dozen like now. They were few and far in between. Ice Breaker in year was serious, Gally was serious, Vex was a crucile killer, thorn was a crucible killer, Suros was real good, red death was a beast, the last word was viscious, necrochasm was stupid in pvp and hard light put in work on shields. It was a different time in Destiny and the grind was real but getting something was actually special, not just, "oh look, another exotic, shard" unlike the way it is today.

            • This game isn't exciting anymore. Hopefully this upcoming weapons tuning can bring some variety this time around. Won't hold my breath though

              • There is only a few exotics I carry around. TLW (obviously), the first curse (this weapon is golden) and the truth (it's called the truth for a reason. The rest can rust. NLB is good too

                • They arent exciting because they dont matter anymore. Icebreaker was exciting because it enabled very patient people to solo end game content from safe distances. Now its ammo generates so slowly that it would take way longer. It was nerfed due to ammo regen effect on pvp after special ammo change took away special ammo reserves at the beginning or new rounds. Everyone switched to IB for pvp, bungie nerfed it and ruined the pve application as collateral. Suros Regime was exciting because the perks made it powerful and made it feel unique. ARs couldnt all roll the slow fire increased damage at the time, so it was the only AR that became a low impact high ROF scout with perks. Its uniqueness and power made it desireable, which led to popularity in pvp which led to a solid damage nerf, combined with the perk becoming available on pretty much every AR, it lost all appeal. Thorn was exciting because it killed in ways no other gun could. Pop a couple shots and wait for them to succumb to the DoT. It was unique and effective. Never great in pve applications, overly popular in crucible. Nerfs to range, stability, dot damage and damage took it out of my hands and put into my vault. Since the dot doesnt kill anymore, its no longer unique. The Last word was exciting because again, it was unique. Hipfiring felt smooth and fun and the perks really paid off. Nerfs to accuracy and to the perks made hipfire feel crappy like every other HC and it lost its appeal. All of these guns are still effective in the right hands, but they arent exciting. If I had to guess at what makes exotics feel exciting to me, its uniqueness. Lose that for the sake of pvp "balance" and everything just becomes bland. It would be nice to see a sample of exotics rotate in and out of the meta along with weapon architypes. Even designed imbalance can make things exciting sometimes.

                  • Honestly, exotics suffer from being exotics. That is to say, it's a single named gun, with a fixed set of perks, and a few unique tricks. So when someone wants to point a finger at what's killing them, it's a lot easier to point it at the Mida (a middling scout at best with poor stability) than at scouts in general. Thus the removal of HCR as an intrinsic perk. Generally speaking, it's easy to get pissed at the Hawkmoon, as opposed to all the 81 impact hand cannons, and so Hawkmoon gets a nerf. They are the proverbial 'nail that sticks up', so it's easy for the dev team to be able to hammer them back down. I don't think they should be the most powerful guns in the game, by any means, but when i can't even use my Hawkmoon because the Vanity outperforms it, we have a bit of an issue.

                      Exotics are special for two reasons: aesthetic and perks. Their incredible rarity once improved that Exotic quality, but the Taken King tarnished that with the infamous "Three of Coins" consumable. Some Exotic weapons were able to push the boundaries for balance within their class, but as an Exotic, they aren't supposed to be inherently better than any Legendary-class weapon. Perks, visuals and before the Taken King, rarity. That's what made an exotic.

                    • Exotic weapons are defined by the unique perks/perk-set they have and their appearance. Them being "exciting" is an opinion and subjective at best. Some people may not like the design of a weapon, and someone else may love it. Legendary weapons are meant more to be the workhorse of a players arsenal. They are capable of having a dynamic perk set and can fit a variety of situations. Exotic's can't do that. Legendary weapons are supposed to be "better" because they are what a player should be using most of the time.

                      • Bungie needs to get the concept of what it means for all weapons to work across the entire board Like Y1 did. Reversing the role of exotics that now your legendaries are your exotics didn't change anything in this game. Exotics don't need to be Op but they should be worth the effort in acquiring if they are going to be an RNG challenge in some events that can take up to a year just to acquire.

                        Nobody said that an Exotic must be equipped at all times. Exotics have been feeling like a "Unique Legendary" since The Taken King for me. I keep my vault clean for the most part. (shocker right?) But to be truthful I really only use a select handful of exotics for certain builds or uses. I think I only have about 8 Exotic weapons across my characters and my vault. With faction packages basically being free handouts at this point you should expect a better, reliable weapon from time to time. My Characters Scout Rifles are all pretty much better than all of the Primary Exotics with my Hunters being the most powerful of them all. Yes, Exotics aren't exciting anymore but in truth, the only thing "Exotic" about these weapons are the unique perks.

                      • I never thought of exotics as being more powerful, to me they have always just been different, and interesting, some with pretty cool hidden perks, and unique looks, some have been slightly OP, but most are just exotic. Look it up. I don't believe "more powerful" is in the definition of exotic. OSO.

                      • Wait, what? Exotics aren't exciting anymore How can that be true, yet simultaneously nearly all Legendaries except HC and CleverDragon are also unusable? Didn't Exotics get toned down to promote More Legendary Variety? It's like, they've somehow failed on Both Directions.

                        • 1. Exotics are Exotic for two reasons. The first being the Perks they possess. The second being their appearance. They are not trully meant to be "Ultimate Weapons" nor were they meant to be trophies or rare. Saying they are Unexciting is opion. Not fact. 2. Good luck getting a job. Chances are you will not be able to change anything anyway.
