Both films feature strong female lead characters who stand on their own and don't play into some forced cheesy romance plot trope.

1 RespuestaYeah but this is good feminism not the cancer of feminazis
-
1 RespuestaLook at Rogue One/Force Awakens. Now look at the sh#tstorm that was Ghostbusters 2016. See the difference? The Star Wars movies had female roles to shake things up and make things interesting while still delivering on all things that make Star Wars great. Nothing over the top was required. They were just films that meet modern ideas. Ghosbusters on the other hand, featured a female team of protagonists and a series of incompetent males making terrible jokes. The entire purpose of the movie was to push an agenda and pander to the feminists. Simply put, Star Wars can be progressive without losing itself.

1 RespuestaOr maybe they just chose female characters for the hell of it
-
3 RespuestasBut...
didn't the guy save the girl near the end of the movie, and then they had a last second romance that felt forced?
-
can we not politicize star wars?
-
1 RespuestaI kind of got that feeling while watching them, but it never feels forced. I'm glad they avoided cheesy romances as well

The Force Awakens features a flawless leading female who faces no challenges and knows how to deal with every situation on her own and by the end renders the antagonist of the movie and the protagonist of the former movies completely irrelevant by being Godlike with the Force and lightsabers as well. Rogue One features a flat female lead who has no character arc because from start to finish of the movie she is fully competent as a non-stop action machine who can do anything and handle everything, making the movie a hard failure on characters by having a weakly written character trying to carry the movie. Both of these are absolutely inadvertently poignant tributes to feminism. The writers tripped themselves over their own agendas and ruined what they stuck their hands into by forcing their overt ideologies into the movies and putting that before creating good characters and stories. Hubris ruining something other people like. That's an extremely good summary of feminism.

19 RespuestasEditado por THUNDERCHILD: 1/3/2017 3:59:56 AMAre these movies worth watching? I grew up with star wars everything, books, toys, the card game, some of my best childhood memories are of building my own adventures with a few friends in the pencil and dice rpg based in the star wars universe. I waited in line for episodes 1 and 2 to be first in at midnight on their premieres at my hometown theater. Needless to say jar jar and 90% of the acting crushed my star wars spirit. The cgi was spectacular but thats just not enough. I never saw episode 3 in the theater and havent bothered with these new Disney versions at all. I dont want to be hurt again.

So? Listen Max... I know I impressed the hell out of you with my Rachel Maddow comment a while back, but seriously? Modern day feminism can go suck an egg. I care about whether or not the movie is actually good. Rogue One was very good. You know my favorite movie staring a leading female actress? Aliens. I never did get any strong feminism vibes from that one. The only thing I did get was that if Ellen Ripley was around, I didn't need an M41A pulse rifle (or a team of ultimate badasses) to make it out alive. Equal rights and pay are great, but "modern" day feminism? I say we take off and nuke that crap from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
-
We are dragging star wars into this political shitstorm why?
-
That's EVERY popular movie these days. Also the 7/8/9 books were written before 'feminism' was a widespread movement like we see today, and actually had a reason to exist.

1 RespuestaLol no Is a sci-fi movie you pleb

1 RespuestaI'd like to see some make leads be done but in the same mindset as they are now doing female ones. Young men need to see strong male leads exhibiting strong values, and character. Sort of like how John Wayne was the Paragon archetype of how men should act back when he was in film. You and I probably disagree on what that movie character exactly portrays, but still.
-
U make a point about the romance thing but both movies still had strong male characters. Krinnic, while evil, still had strong motivations and believed in his work. Galen acted out of selfless love to do what he felt was right. Casian, while kind of a dick, stuck to his values despite how difficult things were. Po is the cocky fighter pilot with skill. Fin believed in doing the right thing. Yes Jyn and Rey r strong leads, but the guys were strong in their own way too and believed in themselves and what they felt they had to do. Thats inspiring enough for me

The reality is that
I don't like sand, it's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere
Heck, you're still around these here parts

1 RespuestaSo in this day and age, we need Star Wars movies to represent feminism when everyone is equal? I'm fine with the idea of a female lead, but don't throw in a political agenda to make the 1% happy, while upsetting others. There needs to be a balance between to please everyone.
-
10 RespuestasYou really like to kill my favorite franchises don't you? How about female lead leave crappy feminism out of it?
-
I think it's terrible that some people use what is ultimately just a female character to push their agenda.
-
Star Wars has always had strong female characters.
-
Don't see how they are a tribute to feminism.

60 RespuestasI love it. I may actually watch a star wars movie because of this. If we got an LGBTQ+ Character I would instantly fall in love with the series.
