Yes. Take away winner take all and let each county in the United States count as 1 vote. That way your vote represents your area and there will be some blue in places like Kansas and some red in places like California.

That might be the worst idea I've heard in this thread.
-
Why? Because liberals can't move out of their echo chamber safe space cities?
-
>if you don't like that your vote doesn't matter, move! Everyone's vote should equally matter.
-
Pure democracy wouldn't work. The majority would oppress the minority. Hell we would probably be a socialistic country by now if it was pure democracy. The only other way I would like to see the electoral college work would be giving electoral votes based on percentage. To your point about if you don't like it move. I completely agree with it. If you don't like that gay marriage passed or didn't pass in your state then move. Don't take it to the Supreme Court. I know it doesn't matter now nor do I have a problem with gay marriage. Just an example.
-
1) electing a representative by popular vote isn't pure democracy 2) electors should be assigned by promotionally to the popular vote results in their state. Not by county.
-
It's not true pure democracy no but the majority would still oppress the minority. And keep it the same then? Cool.
-
No it wouldn't. How exactly would it oppress the minority? Explain in detail. And it's currently winner take all, not proportional.
-
No it wouldn't. How exactly would it oppress the minority? Explain in detail.
Obama Care is GREAT example. Forcing people to have insurance or pay a fine. Making it too costly and people getting dropped from their insurance they chose. If it was based solely on popular vote we wouldn't of seen a republican president since HW Bush. It would be a mob mentality in government.
And it's currently winner take all, not proportional.
You didn't say proportional so I was confused. I'm fine with taking a percentage of electoral votes based on percentage of citizens votes.
-
You clearly are still in high school. People can't just get up and move whenever they want kiddo. Welcome to the real world. People have jobs and money to worry about. If the people want socialism then they should get socialism. I'm not going to belittle the opinion of the majority of the country just because I strongly disagree with it.
You clearly are still in high school. People can't just get up and move whenever they want kiddo. Welcome to the real world. People have jobs and money to worry about.
lol I'm 26 and own salons. I hire people who need jobs and pay people who have money to worry about.
If the people want socialism then they should get socialism. I'm not going to belittle the opinion of the majority of the country just because I strongly disagree with it.
No they shouldn't. I absolutely will belittle the opinion of those who want socialism. It's a -blam!-ing disgusting and vile thought.
-
Good -blam!-ing luck. You've just killed democracy in the USA and caused mass upheaval. Maybe you're confusing electoral districts with counties. That's the only explanation for making sense of this.
-
How am I taking away democracy? If each county in the United States gets 1 electoral vote based on popular vote of the county how is that taking away democracy?
-
Because some counties (the ones with cities) have VASTLY more people. You understand that's still winner take all right?
-
Lol so winning a county based on popular vote is the same as winning an entire state? I don't really have a huge problem with the way it's set up now except for the fact that democrats votes don't count here where I'm at and republicans votes don't count in places like California.
honestly the way the constitution is set up it shouldn't matter who the president is. However because congress has stripped itself of power and given it all to the president it does matter.

Then you should support electing the president through popular vote? Like why are you talking about counties?
-
Because voting by county gives red people a voice in blue states and blue people a voice in red states. Pure democracy wouldn't work. The majority would oppress the minority.
-
Not if each county receives the same amount of votes. They would have to be given proportionally. In which case, you might as well just keep the current system but award state electoral votes proportionally.
-
Haven't we already been over this.
-
You said that some people's votes should count for less.
-
Editado por Vgnut: 12/30/2016 12:06:54 AMHow many counties do you think are in the USA? It's like 3,100. Half the entire US population lives in 150 counties. The vast, vast, vast, vast, vast majority of Americans live in 1/10 of the counties. What do you think are in most counties? The answer is nothing. Wilderness. Some barely inhabited towns. Some counties only contain maybe several dozen people. You have suggested a system where a county of 100 has an equal voice to a county of 10 million. This is a system where a president could be elected with a fraction of the vote. The discrepancy of population in states is nothing compared to the discrepancy in population between counties.

Then move out of your echo chamber safe space city. The only other way I would like to see the electoral college work would be to take a percentage of the electoral votes based on the people vote. So if 63% of people voted democrat in California(random number) then they would get 63% of the electoral vote.
-
Then move out of your echo chamber safe space city.
Are you -blam!-ing thick? We're not talking Seattle or San Francisco. Like I said the vast, vast, majority of Americans live in a fraction of the counties. We're talking Republican and Democrat. Cities big and small. Suburbs. Even some rural-ish areas.
The only other way I would like to see the electoral college work would be to take a percentage of the electoral votes based on the people vote. So if 63% of people voted democrat in California(random number) then they would get 63% of the electoral vote.
This is a more sensible and realistic fix.
-
That would make republicans win every time though. I'm a republican but I don't think that is fair at all
-
This would be the solution I think. Not straying from the constitution while properly representing the people.
