Destiny 2 Needs More Focus On QUALITY PvE Content

One of the biggest problems with Destiny from day 1 has been the lack of story and in game lore, and that's still the case. So why is Bungie focusing so much on all of the PvP feedback and not really doing much in PvE. Yeah, they're fixed some PvE problems, and that's great, but this game has become much too focused on PvP. Destiny was not meant to be a mainly PvP game, and sadly that's what's happened. If we truly want Destiny 2 to be an improvement, the focus must be on PvE. The original idea of Destiny, the one that built massive hype and won over E3 when it debuted was a game full of exploring, fighting mysterious enemies of the darkness and saving humanity, not an idea of a broken sandbox full of sweaties taking money from less skilled players just to win some PvP matches to get rare gear. That's not what this game was meant to be, nor what it should be. The potential is still there. Destiny could be a game changer, a standard of excellence that other developers would strive to achieve. It could be great. But none of it happens unless attention is taken away from PvP, not completely, but taken away and put towards a great story, mind blowing lore, and an amazing PvE experience that's worth coming back to again and again.

  • I have no real opinion on the PvP content... because I never do Crucible, Iron Banner, Trials, etc. But don't nerf my weapons for PvE because they are "too good" for your PvP! If a dumbing down of stats, armor, weapons or whatever else must happen for PvP - that should be built into the region, not the global community. Also, I will not back off my request for matchmaking in raids. If Bungie wanted to "open new content" for a lot of Destiny players - this would be a way. Many of us WANT to do all the raids, but either don't like the online searches to coordinate with 5, 4, 3 other people... or have had bad experiences with the raid "heroes" who dictate terms and qualifications, and give orders like it is their own personal army. And BTW, the sites that create raid groups are basically matchmaking... just nowhere near as efficient. Keep the team option, of course. And I have to think those who oppose matchmaking for raids are the very people who enjoy dominating others that have the misfortune of joining with their group. "The ONLY way you can play the raids is if you come to ME!" Otherwise of what concern is it of yours if the expansion doesn't affect your team's raid experience at all?

      • I can count on one hand with fingers left over the number of PvP matches I have played in Destiny... that includes Crucible and all the rest. Not my thing, but I won't criticize those who prefer PvP over PvE either. What I DO NOT appreciate as a standard PvE player is having exclusive map sections, ships, sparrows, weapons, armor, etc we can never have access to. That includes PvP gear, Raid gear and whatever else we can't obtain - unless we just happen to have 5 other people standing around, or want to put hours into something we hate like the Crucible. Raids should have a matchmaking option (including replacement for "bailers")... period. Not saying the team option should be removed, simply matchmaking added is all. Yes, I know this has been talked to death - but it still hasn't been addressed. There should be no exclusivity on equipment, content, and certainly not social center regions. Not sure what Bungie hoped to accomplish with all the class snobbery that was built into Destiny.

          • You could make some of the best damn pve content a first person shooter could ever ask for, if it's accompanied by Bungie's current model of "eh, they'll figure it out" for matchmaking it will stagnate and die. There needs to be an in game resource to find players for specific activities. #Recruitment doesn't cut it. Relying on outside lfg sites doesn't cut it. Instead of just holding the emotes kiosk that hangar bar could have an lfg terminal where you could go through pages of activities and scroll through players and create a little sub party within the system then when you're ready to go you can all go to orbit together at once. None of this "must have 600 raid completions, 400 light only" for a normal mode raid. Also I'm tired of record books and the direction they're going. It's nice to have goals. And it's nice to keep track of accomplishments. But at some point it ceases to be goal tracking and instead becomes never ending grind ranks. Then when you tie it to activities that can only be completed by going into the god awful lfg system it just gets unbearable. Basically there's more to great pve content than the initial content. The structure around the content also needs to be conducive to having fun and not feel essentially like another full time job.

                • Yea, that's not going to happen. PvP is what keeps this game moving along. How many people come back to play IB or trials only. I bet a lot more than you think. Plus, PvP is easy for the devs. Make a map without monsters, loot chests and other things must be faster and easier than stocking maps with story and all the other stuff. PvP will never take a back seat to pve for this game. Destiny (Bungie) been jamming PvP down our throats since day one. Bet

The smell of bias comes swiftly as you read the first few sentences. The biggest problem the game has faced is lack of developer support throughout its lifetime. This is why updates come slowly as far as the nature of the game is concerned. They've done quite a lot in both PvE and PvP. Frankly speaking PvP has changed very little, at most you have more game modes. Trials being the last big addition to it. Meanwhile PvE does get the bulk of things to do, and that's fine PvP is fairly robust with its repetitive nature as PvP tends to. All in all I'm hoping D2 simply gets the entire dev team behind it. Rather than a measly live team keeping it alive somehow.

                    • Have you ever played Halo? You play through the campaign once, maybe twice for achievements, then you play multiplayer until the next one comes out. This isn't a new Bungie formula.

                      • i now consider the whole "[vanilla] destiny has no story" claim to be an ignorant one. year 1 was filled with rich lore to delve into. heck, even just vanilla destiny had some good stuff deep down in there. "deep down there"? down where? yes its mostly the gromoire, but i still maintain that it was, and still is, surprisingly a boon for the game's lore! it just seems more rewarding to have to pull out the ol' laptop (or iphone) and look into it outside of the game itself. like the game is the battlefield and b.net is the library, where you meet the cryptarch for more than just decrypting the phat lewt! also consider how bungie tells their tales: remember halo, back when it was good? now consider how 343i is handling the story (or miss-handling it ZING!). as an aspiring story-teller, i rather LIKE the way bungie is handling the story of destiny, including the medium and its delivery. also i disagree on the pve/pvp aspect: i pretty much exclusively play PvE, and i find much to enjoy here. PVP is still a great break too and its constant evolution is a neccessity for ANY player v player game, ESPECIALLY one with sooo many variables like destiny has! PvP needs the attention it gets, but in terms of pure content, it still gets FAR less than what PvE gets.

                            • The answer is go play warframe it's a pve players dream come true. Pve and pvp are separate, can raid daily, and farm to your hearts content. Destiny copied a lot from warframe. Only difference is destiny simplified it and hollowed it out only to be sold to us in small segments.

"THEY HAVEN'T MASTERED IT YET! It's still new to them!"), no showing us content via armoury/trailers/etc then hiding it for a year for no good reason (Feeling too lazy to make a new thing huh?), such as all the ROI exotics that we expected with TTK. No leaving gear behind. Smarter RNG, don't be stingey on drops (like skeleton keys were pre-Dawning).

Kind of like the traveler theory, that it unleashed the darkness on us only to act as the savior at the same time.
