    • Meh. Why do people feel the need to go to the lighthouse? Rather go tea bag a patrol marker.

It's like you're running away from the conversation completely. No wonder your having trials trouble. "They way you do one thing is the way you do everything ".

I don't agree with you. I'm a casual player, but I defend the idea of Trials being the domain of the elite player. There needs to be some area for them to go and strut their stuff. Usually they have put in the time and have assembled a good group of players. It's hard to match that just by teaming up with random people on LFG. I don't play that mode anymore, because I can't compete against these guys. I got stomped a few times and I lost interest. Sure, that means I can't get the Lighthouse gear. I'm okay with that. I don't raid much, so I can't get that gear either. I accept it. Fortunately, there's enough good loot in this game that I don't need to rely on Trials or raids.

        • Honestly, the only thing I don't like about Trials, and why I won't even try, is the cheating and/or possibility of disconnection (DDoS or due to P2P) which counts as a loss. I've actually gotten a lot better in PvP. My lifetime stats don't reflect it as I had really bad stats for a while. My per game and per month stats are usually in the 1.5+ ranges with lifetimes just over a 1 on all characters. I would actually not mind cutting my teeth the hard way in Trials if I knew there would be no cheating or loss of connection. Unfortunately there's too much bullshit connection and cheating wise with Trials so I skip it.

            • So I know I'm going to get eaten alive by all the casual players in this thread. BUT. Trials is supposed to be for the better players. It's supposed to be their most competitive game variant. For the more casual pvp players, that's why IB exists. Now with that being said, I'd be welcoming of a change to how the matchmaking works for trials. I'm not the biggest fan of having the matchmaking based almost entirely off of card wins.

                • Trials has been a divisive game mode since it's introduction during House of Wolves. If Bungie cancelled Trials forever, I think more players would be happy than upset.

                    • I'm a fairly good pvp player but I choose to play Trials almost exclusively with my 2 rl friends who aren't very good each weekend. If I play with my sweat friends I'm sure I could go flawless practically every card, but that would get old. Regular crucible can get boring enough if it's not competitive, which includes Iron Banner. But even playing with two bad players, it is still rewarding for both me as well as them. I get challenged every match and have to figure out the best way to carry each card, and they learn an awful lot about player positioning, handling engagements, situational awareness and strategy, and so on. Do we go flawless? Very rarely, but when we do, it is a high that cannot get replicated elsewhere in the game. If Trials became watered down, the most rewarding aspect of this game would no longer be rewarding. And while reaching the lighthouse is an awesome experience, working on chemistry and watching yourselves grow as a team and your teammates become better and more confident at the game, is just as awesome. The key is to find players with whom you would be comfortable facing adversity, and then just agree to get better over time. I would suggest to work on your skills outside of Trials (play mostly 3v3 gamemodes and grind the heck out of rumble to get better at your 1v1's). It will translate over without the pressure or pain. Try to find a knowledgeable player to teach you tactics and strategy. There are plenty of good players out there looking to help. You'd be surprised at how simple the game can get once you get a better understanding. But there will still be the execution part of the equation, which is where skill gaps judge the outcome and rumble and 3v3 work will show.

                      • The real problem is getting to 8-0 and then the other team has crispy red bars then your fireteam gets kicked. Cheaters, That's the real problem..

                        • There is no SBMM in trials, it matches you against people with the same win count on cards. I agree with most of your points, it's tough if your stats don't line up, I'm top10% for sure and when I'm looking on LFG, if you don't have a high Elo or kd.... I don't wanna waste my time. Trials is hard enough as it is! You need people who are extremely good at the game to get to the lighthouse, I played today with 2 people who were doing account recoveries , it's stupid how people are paying so much for this now ...

                          • Personally I have stop playing PvP all together and started playing exclusively PvE. I personally find the hardcore PvE people to be more laid back and intelligent about our arguments. I would be happy to introduce you to our community. It is a lot of fun. I highly suggest you start watching Datto does Destiny on youtube. He is a great guy really laid back and fun to listen too. Granted, he is hardcore, but he understands that unlike some of hardcore PvP players.

                          • I'm not a fan of trials. It was fun in HOW but turned to shit after that. Having said that, posts like this aren't going to do anything. Bungie has dug their feet in the sand and basically said "don't like it? Don't play it". Can't see any changes incoming for the remainder of D1.

                          • There is an easy fix I recommended in June of last year; A fireteam of 3 players that have never been flawless should never face a flawless team. Once someone goes flawless in the fireteam than it is open season. It is fubar for new players, not a cake walk for the best either. But it could be improved to get more players into it.

                            • Agree with all your points except 11 - elite players create alt accounts so people don't know who they are, how good they are and can play without fear of messing their stats up. Trials is win based not skill based

Trials is the only game mode that doesn't have SBMM. It matches you up with others at the same win.

Bungie is so confused right now when it comes to trials and crucible. not to mention all of you loving ice breaker WILL CRY soon when snipers have unlimited ammo.. get ready.

                              • Points 1-6: Trials is a badly-conceived, badly designed, and broken competition. One that offers the average player almost no reason to participate or support it. While good players like to prance around and pretend that Trials "identify the best players", the reality is what on poster said here: "The Best feed on the Rest, and the Rest get pissed". (IOWs, trials serves up weaker players as cannon fodder to really good players, while those really good players largely avoid playing each other) Point 7. There is no SBMM in Trials...and that's the problem. Its CBMM, with absolutely half-assed attempt at SBMM by matching the number of wins. Point 8. You're right. So stop trying. Learn to BACKPEDAL while firing. This will prolong the time the shotgun warrior needs to close to shotgun range, and buy you time your underpowered primary needs to kill. If you can't backpedal....go VERTICAL. Get up in the air, and extend the distance that way. Point 9. Welcome to "competitive" video gaming. Where you get all the nerds who were lacked the athletic ability to play real sports. So now they're taking out all their frustrations....and acting out their childish notions of being a "bad ass" on one another. Bottomline, they have no idea how to compete without being complete assholes about it. Sportsmanship, needs to be learned...and a culture that promotes it. None of that exists around video gaming....and FPSs in particular. Pont 10. Join a clan. LFG teams are TRANSACTIONAL arrangments. By that I mean, People give something with the expressed intent to GET something in return. So when people realize that they can't "get" what it was they were after (like going flawless), they take off. Expecting anything different is like expecting to get married to someone you hook up with for a one-nighter in a bar. Clan members (and friends) will invest more in you and in the relationship. If you are looking to form lasting teams, and really work towards improving in this part of the game.....stop wasting your time with LFG. Join a clan of similar minded people, and take matters into your own hands. Point 11. Refer back to points 1-6. When you create a competition that offers nothing but humiliation to the average player. The averge player (at best) withdraws their support. They give it the one-finger salute and walk away. At worst, they start trying to UNDERMINE a situation that they perceive as exploitative and unfair. IOW....they cheat....and while carries are not ***technically*** cheating. They are so against the spirit (such as there is, and what their is of it) of the competition, it is one tiny step above cheating.
