I don't think other games played a big factor at all. BF1 had been out almost a month at the time of that weekly update and the numbers were pretty much unaffected during that entire time leading up to the update. You're dreaming if you think a cash grab like SRL with everything behind a paywall will entice players to return. IB Rift this week along with Deej spending 2 paragraphs in yesterdays TWaB begging people to make more friends is just validation that the game is dying. They are trying to have the remaining people reach out to others so they don't leave too when they see their friends list's drying up.

SRL was a completely FREE event that required absolutely NO money to enjoy. "cash grab" is a false claim. "pay wall" means you have to buy something in order to participate. guess what? you have to buy the game in order to play it, as well as new content. every game is a "pay wall". and destiny has never changed its pay to play ratio either: since its first expansion, its be up to date in order to be up to date. otherwise though, what do you care if you cant play the nightfall if your not going to buy RoI? validation of desperation tactics to retain life in a game would be like ESO and SW TOL going free to play.
