I've been getting into Shotguns more lately, and Defender pairs with them pretty well, so I wanted to mess around with a Shotgun Defender. My main questions are on the Shotgun choice itself and the Subclass stat focus, but I figured I'd go ahead and throw up everything in case there's something I missed or misunderstood. Here's what I've got:
Subclass
Magnetic Grenade, Weapons of Light, Unbreakable, Relentless, Illuminated. Primary focus is on keeping Force Barrier up as much as possible. However, a case could be made for War Machine instead of Unbreakable. Stat focus is up in the air: I could go Agility/Armor, or Agility/Recovery, or try to balance all 3. Also, I know that Magnetic Grenade isn't the best, but it's the only one that I can use reliably.
Weapons
I'm partial to Scout Rifles for my primary, and sticking with them gives me a ranged option if needed. As for Heavy, I tend to like Machine Guns. The main issue is what Shotgun to use. My current options are Invective (not as powerful, but has good Range and regenerates ammo), Quantiplasm (high Impact for lots of damage), and the vendor Shotgun from the first Rise of Iron Iron Banner (lots of Range).
Armor
Exotic would be No Backup Plans (for obvious reasons). I'm leaning towards the Memory Artifact that removes Sprint Cool down (I can't remember the name). Everything else would be Intellect/Strength focused. That would give minimal cool down on my Melee (very important) and my Super (also important).
Playstyle
Blast it in the face with a Shotgun. If you can't (either because you're out of ammo or it's just a bad idea to get close), pull out one of your other weapons and use that.
As I said, I'm mainly interested in advice on the Subclass stats and Shotgun choice, but I'll consider any advice I get. Also, while I realize this build is great in PvP, I'd primarily be using it in PvE. I do realize that there are more limitations there, but most of PvE is spent Mobbing, with the occasional boss thrown in, so it should still be solid for most of what I'd be doing.

1 RespuestaIf your fine with using a legendary shotgun, I'd go with monte carlo for your primary

3 RespuestasEditado por KannibalKlown: 11/5/2016 8:58:12 PMI like running with Lord of wolves Counts as a shotgun for no backup plans. But works more like a heavy pulse / fusion hybrid. I hate regular shotguns

I use Lord of Wolves with my defender loadout in pvp. I never run out of special ammo. A full auto matador is also an excellent choice.

Editado por Zelrons: 11/6/2016 4:56:24 PMIf you're in PvE Unbreakable is your one and only choice. I have been using this build since Year 1. A Max strength build gets their melee every 25 seconds and combining relentless and No Backup Plans just happens to give Force Barrier a duration of about 25 seconds. Meaning that as long as it doesn't break as soon as you lose Force Barrier you have another ready to go. Unbreakable will, as the name implies, prevent Force Barrier from breaking by healing poke damage that would otherwise whittle you down. This usually ensures Force Barrier lasts it's full duration, so long as you're not trying to melee Strike Bosses thinking you're invincible. If you're smart this build can let you keep Force Barrier going almost perpetually. If you really really want to commit to this build Monte Carlo can be insane letting you get another charge before your first Force Barrier even expires. You become extremely durable when nearly every shotgun kill is a full heal.

Try Immobius with armor of light in pve just for fun.

I use a Burden of Proof void full-auto shotgun in PVE. Blessing of light with saint-14. Use the bubble in choke points or bring it to them. But then my playstyle is melee heavy so I just punch low level mobs, use the shotty to melt majors etc. and just punch and reload until everything is dead. Scout Rifles are usually a good idea as then you have a ranged option. But right now I have been using a Hand Cannon a lot. If you want to get close and dirty it's great. The only trade off is the ammo capacity. I am setup for discipline and strength. Male enough kills super comes back pretty quick. Also I generate orbs like hell when I melee so there's a steady supply of supers If I am in a fireteam. This is a PVE build I use mostly for melee kills but shotguns are my secondary of choice in any game. Nothing like running around with my universal remote as a striker in year one. Double shotty's. Died a lot but if I could get close quarters I was a force of nature.

1 RespuestaEditado por Swiftlock: 11/5/2016 8:32:21 PMNo Backup Plans. God roll Matador (or whatever high-impact/high-range shotgun you have on hand). Felwinter's Artifact. Focus everything on Strength/Discipline so you can keep chucking grenades and regenerating your Force Barrier with each shotgun kill. You basically want to keep constantly milking utility out of your abilities so you can be as obnoxious as humanly possible. This can be a more efficient means of racking up kills than squatting in your bubble which essentially begs the enemy team to demolish you with supers. Pretty straightforward. (Provided that the fix is in place since Felwinter's has problems with the Defender class for some reason.)

Mandator is very strong, last ditch from dead orbit is also very strong, invective is a good choice as well I've got a god roll matador that I'm using and it's destroys everything

Editado por Shyloc: 11/5/2016 4:13:48 PMImmobious would be a good shout as well as long as you spec your ward of dawn correctly, saint 14 would then be a decent helm, but it kinda gives the game away

As a protip, when you look for armor, try to find anything that increases your shotgun ammo carried and that will buff armor on void subclass. Faster melee speed as well.

Editado por Hamdinitron: 11/5/2016 4:01:05 PMI do one of 2 setups Setup 1: wol Universal remote High impact sniper (can body shot one shot with wol) No backup plans Suppressors and regening barrier Setup 2: Bad juju Shotgun (vendor dead orbit is good and has QuickDraw or use invective) Armor of light Sword Suppressors and regening barrier Artifacts. Either radegast(or however you spell it) with your sword to deal with those pesky nova bombs or the one that shows you when people have their supers so you know when to suppress and when to bail out
