I was skeptical like you; the only reason I believe it is still in the game is because other people that I play with sometimes complain about how much harder it is to play in the same lobby as me. They claim when they are by themselves they go positive and stay towards the top of the list but as soon as they join up with me or one of our other friends they are bottom of the list with like a .6 kd
