EDIT 2: Just added the perfect clip idea to the title (some thought the post was a pun)
No, this isn't a Nerf post (as much as I'd like it to be), I will be tame and say nothing more about Last Word other than its popular and powerful. I have left my opinion out.
So, what hand cannon is better than Last Word? Sure, Palindrome has more range, Thorn can burn and Hawkmoon has a 2 shot potential, but think outside just the obvious.
The Last Word is the only hand cannon in the game with the perk "Fan Fire" (which is full auto, but for hand cannon) meaning it also claims the spot for being the fastest shooting hand cannon. This isn't a problem, as it is an exotic, but keep this in mind.
The Last Word has one of the quickest kill times at around a 0.7 or 0.8 (I don't remember). This kill time is when you hit Headshots, which it is hard to get with the Last Word, but if in theory you only hit Headshots, you would have one of the quickest time to kill guns in the game.
The Last Word's range is pitiful, and suffers from both inaccuracy and a high damage Dropoff. Not to mention it's 8 magazine allows usually only 1 kill (2 if all Headshots).
Gathering all of this data shows that The Last Word is a very powerful gun; especially in close quarters combat. This, you already knew. But I push forward this question. What other primary is better than this gun?
No other gun shoots as fast as this one
Like a doctrine, in a sense, the more bullets that go into you per second, the more you will suffer from stagger (or flinch). Yes the bullets are hard to hit, but if they do (in theory), your opponent will find it extremely difficult to retaliate.
Last Word has one of the quickest time to kills
The Last Word (even just shooting body shots) has a quicker kill time than any Auto Rifle. any Auto Rifle. This effectively means if you land every shot using a Last Word, you will outgun any and every auto rifle user. (See Figure 1)
Last Word is very popular
In a game of shotguns, it's only natural for a sniper to deal with rushers using this gun. But when you take into account that 20% of all kills in Destiny are owned by The Last Word, deciphering and identifying Last Word users who are actually skilled, time investors and land Headshots from other players who prefer to use cheese combos (body shot sniper to primary) becomes a thin line.
All in all, this discussion is to just provoke a question:
What is better than a Last Word (theoretically landing only "perfect" shots {Headshots})?
EDIT: Consider the opponents stagger, the damage and time to kill. Grasp isn't automatically a winner if you think more about it.
EDIT 3: I tested at Bannerfall, at spawn's bridge (person either side of the door). mid - close range. Not optimal for both Last Word or Pulses. Use this as a reference towards the question; it's obvious at range that anything would win against the Last Word.
What do you guys think?
Figure 1: Last Word killed in a controlled environment and was timed. No other Guardian interactions were present. If both guns started at the same time, Last Word won every time. Just to clarify any doubts :)
This discussions answer is going to change nothing (Bungie and a majority of fans love the weapon)
EDIT 4:
After gathering some of your best comments, here's the answer! What could beat a "perfect" Last Word clip:
• A "perfect" Vex Mythoclast clip
... that's it.
Guns that require conditions:
• (With enemy armor low) First Curse, Ill Will, etc. (or with luck in the chamber). this will most likely turn out in a trade.
• Hawkmoon (with 2 luck in the chambers in a row)
And that's it!
No, Eyasluna/Palindrome wouldn't beat a "perfect" last word clip even with luck in the chamber as they need 3 taps (in most cases). No pulses (even Clever Dragon) could beat it's "perfect" clip, but as a lot of you said, it would at range. Any gun could beat Last Word at range. That wasn't the point of this experiment.
Of course, in technicality, No Land Beyond and Universal Remote could beat it, but I consider those false primaries.
But those are the only weapons (and conditions) that can withstand the "perfect" Last Word clip and maybe come out on top.
Thanks for reading!
And yes i hate Last Word come at me

The ttk is around .6 with a 3 shot lol. Used to be like .2 when it could headshot 2shot whit a hipfire hit
-
1 RespuestaI have 8600 kills with it lol
-
1 RespuestaYou call it "The Last Word" Post Nerf I call it "The Last Turd" That is all!
-
2 RespuestasFirearms use magazines to hold ammunition. Clips hold things together.
-
Best I've done is two full health Guardians with one last word clip
-
no the last word op and you as an op cant do lettuce to it, op.
-
5 RespuestasHip fire headshots with the TLW beats everything else, Landing them in a real game though is a different story. Pulses&autos are more forgiving than handcannons in general, it's just annoying when you get melted by TLW.
-
Pulse rifle nerf inbound. Bungie sent us right back into a pulse meta lol. Palindrome nerf (maybe) probably some small buff to handcannons. TLW won't be touched regardless of what you say. The weapon caters to practically one play style at maximum effectiveness. Yeah, I use TLW. I snipe exclusively in a shotgun/pulse meta so having the perfect close to mid balance is ideal. The gun does what it's meant to do. It's really situational and will be easily outgunned if you can't choose proper positioning and the right gun fights.
-
6 RespuestasI don't even see the point in this post. A lot of guns would be amazing if you never missed and only hit headshots.
-
4 RespuestasSo stand more than 10 feet away and a blue handcannon would win.
-
If you stand there face in The Last Word's barrel and then try to outgun it you're going to lose. This game has high mobility for a reason, you should use it. I love The Last Word and I would say that most of my all time kill ratio is from it. I just got a nice The Devil You Know and I think I might like it more.
-
4 Respuestasffs you do not hate the last word or you wouldn't have taken the time to write a novel. gtfo lol
-
3 RespuestasSniper, shotgun, fusion, sidearm, palindrome, I'll will, first curse, the devil you know, lingering song, mida, nlb, universal, thorn,....must I go on. Every weapon can beat TLW. It's just the user
-
1 RespuestaPSA; snipers cleaning up their kills with one bullet is the same as shotgunners throwing a melee. You didn't cut line of sight. Snipers have to get the first shot, otherwise flinch wins typically. Meaning if the body shot is hit, you're probably by cover, or you need to start sliding and jumping around corners and such more. I let you close the gap and use a combo instead of gunning you down. That's on me. It goes both ways. Nothings wrong with that.
-
2 RespuestasDoesn't the Exiled Student have the same RoF & Impact?
-
Eyasluna, any day?
-
If Fan Fire dis not cause Full auto, but just a high fire rate, nobody would complain.
-
6 RespuestasIt has great range. I don't understand what people are whining about. A full auto hand cannon should not be able to compete with a regular hand cannon at mid ranges. Anybody debating it's capabilities at medium ranges is no sorts of skilled with the weapon.
-
2 RespuestasPeople rip on the Last Word because it is inconsistent, and that's what matters. You can spew the "controlled environment BS" but that really doesn't mean anything. It's all theoretical. In theory, Defender is the best subclass, because you will theoretically hit all suppression grenades and nobody will ever have a super. Then you will have Weapons/Blessing of Light and theoretically can't lose a gunfight. But Defender is the unanimous "worst subclass" in PvP. See? It's all theoretical. When the theory is impractical, it serves no purpose.
-
6 RespuestasJade Rabbit has a .8 second ttk.
-
1 RespuestaThat 20% is me sorry
-
Hawkmoon year 1 wen, luck in the chamber and double aces would stack in 1 bullet
-
Believe it or not, the Last Word is balanced. Like you said, if someone shoots you from far, you can't fight. However, if a shotgunner or a Shoulder Charger tries to kill you, if you know how to use your weapon, you would win.

1 RespuestaEditado por Eyes of Oryx: 11/2/2016 5:16:29 AMNLB, no land beyond has the fastest "primary" time to kill in the game currently.... 0.01 from any distance with a precision shot to the head. If you never missed a shot... And you reload glitch/ canceled it would be unstoppable. But that's not going to happen. Same with TLW, The Last Word The potential is high, but after so many accuracy nerfs, especially to hip fire... The guns time to kill, the bullets that don't land. There's a reason everyone isn't running around with it in 6v6 atleast. In 3v3 pulses are still the most popular primary... Even though we all use our secondaries more than anything else.
-
3 RespuestasSure TLW is a beast in these very specific controlled instances, but if you take two steps out of its range it does almost nothing. You might as well use a shotgun with how close you have to be for TLW to be as effective as you're saying. And yes I realize I'm ripping on my favorite gun, but just because it's my favorite doesn't mean it's the best gun.

1 RespuestaEditado por Youre Lightwork: 11/2/2016 5:26:26 AMman I hate the last word. Always have. Just don't feel like any HC should shoot that fast...its actually designed to just spray people down with... 4 bodies, kills faster than multiple other popular crucible primaries right now.. But at the same time this game would just be weird without now tbh. I just get salty from Bones hunters hitting 4 bodies midair like it's nothing lol.
