Thorn has a...complicated history. For the sake of brevity, I will dispense with going over that and simply say that the DoT is in the most balanced place it has ever been. However, this was for much of year two where due to it not being brought forward in light level (and probably it being appropriately balanced), Thorn saw very modest use. But joy of joys, it was being brought to year 3! Huzzah! ...then the unexpected and unwarranted happened. 25% of its base range was removed. Handcannon accuracy is a fickle topic, but in short range matters. With the balancing before the range reduction done, there were no cries for nerfs, no need for rebalancing. Yet the range was cut, I can only imagine in an attempt to preempt calls for nerfs. But those never came. We currently sit at a point where Thorn feels lackluster. Somewhat...inconsistent in its accuracy. Please, I ask those at Bungie to consider returning its range to make Thorn feel like the balanced, consistent exotic it has the potential to now be. My thanks if you've read this far. Edit: Many people have expressed that the range should not be returned to prevent Thorn from hitting at longer ranges. Personally, I want the range returned to boost accuracy, I frankly have little issue with the current damage drop off of the gun. As such, I would like to propose an alternative solution. No one has mentioned aim assist (that I've seen), but this would provide better consistency while maintaining the current range profile. As it stands, I believe Thorn has a maximum aim assist of 60, depending on which ballistics option you choose. Were Bungie to increase this by, say, 10 points to 70, I believe it would be a significant improvement to the gun without actually making it more powerful or improving the range. Even 5 points could make a difference, but I'd like to see an increase of 20 for maximum effect. Perhaps wishful thinking on my part. (By the way, if you're reading this Bungie, this could also provide a solution to the cries for a Hawkmoon buff. Just throwing that out there.)
