Because there was little variety. I seriously only needed about 3-4 primary's ever.
You can insert the argument here for a consumable that give you an element. Or just make them have rolls no other fun can get.

And irony rears it's head again. Now you have to use TOM with Spindle for Oryx. Hunger for Crota (if you still play that raid) and Gally for a quick VOG. There is literally zero variety in the Oryx raid. In fact after about two months you would be hard pressed to get an LFG group even let you through the door without malice and Spindle and if it's for challenge mode you best have spindle and malice maxed out. There is even less variety now than when elemental primaries existed.

I'm talking about outside the raid. But you're not entirely wrong. There are plenty requirement teams still out there

Yea I agree there was little variety. I still swear blind by my little arc hand cannon for an arc burn but, the thing that most of us miss was that the weapons were fun to use. Arc with firefly in the Crota pits run was epic. Solar burn nightfall with a VOC in hand. Void burn with an epilog and 70 rounds or a corrective with 100. Those were fun runs because you felt you'd earned your OP weaponry. You felt as bad ass as you were supposed to be!
