You have to admit lore wise, the Taken were the stuff of nightmare..

Here's my argument. The taken are the scariest thing in the destiny universe so far because of their lore. Let's start with their individual cards. Each race has these
You have been taken.
cards. From the thrall to the minotaurs. Oryx tempts them with their most wanting desires and he changes them. That's only the surface of how scary they are. It's because they seemly accept. Or do they...? Before I get there, Each taken boss has a lore behind it like Sylok. Memes aside, he actually tempted the Tecuhens to inflict more pain. Whether or not this is simply because he was a hive knight I'm not sure. But he and other powerful taken monsters started fighting for the throne. I think this is because if they were at the top, their suffering would end. Thirdly, the blights. They spread darkness in a short area. They help the taken grow stronger. But I theorize those are just small over minds in charge of controlling them. Without the mind and if we might've left the take alone, they might have eventually start to rip themselves apart trying to be themselves again. Lastly, their literal forms. They all appear the same. Whitish darkish ghouls that are a shadow of their former selves. With a single glowing eye not matter the race. That is possibly the window where the darkness can see and perceive what is happening to its primitive form. In game, you can often see a take twitching, convulsing. It's almost like they're trying to hold onto whatever will they have left and fight oryx. They don't want to be slaves. I am theorizing the taken are made of pure darkness. Oryx used this power to enslave them, promise them power, only for hem to realize they're slowly being killed. That death animation where they seem to sucked into a void? That's us sending them back to the darkness and giving their souls peace . TL: DR In short, the taken are still the same races we've fought, but they don't want to be slaves. Oryx lied to them, told them their desires and used it to give them a new shape. They don't want to be slaves so they are twitching, fighting to regain control. They want nothing more than to be themselves again. The blights control them, and the most powerful taken seem to think, being in charge will help ease their suffering. The_Moustache had this to say!
The flavor text for a step in the NTTE quest mentions someone, I think Praedyth's Ghost, seeing a Taken Captain and the Captain laughs at it. The Ghost mentions that it's like the Darkness is just wearing the Captain like a coat.
TheRedThirst
Also take note that when you 'kill' one they dont actually die, they just get sucked back into Oryx's throne world to be used again in another battle...
Kamikaze839 just made me scared.
Here is a scary parallel. Oryx takes beings to infuse with darkness and fight the light. The traveller takes the dead and infuses them with light to fight the darkness
OhtheHugeManity
Not only this, but the taken have reached their final shape of darkness. They are perfect by the standards of the Deep. It is technically the dark, final form. The taken are realistically the most powerful enemies you can face, short of their masters. I liked how much of a threat they were and were considered to be. And I think it would be awesome if in future there's this big cataclysmic event in which the taken resurface.
Fal Chavam is here!!!!
The taken feed and grow on pain. The more they are tortured (mentally and physically) the more powerful they become. That is what Sylok was doing in the prison.
I guess you could say they liked the pain because it made their "knife" evolve and as it did, the solution to their fears grew with it. But at the same time, pain it pain, and they still hurt. I suppose they would define their mood as "grueling". (Pain for power)

That's all I have. Hope you enjoyed my friends! ✌🏻;️😸 Final Edit: It's been fun all. We all had a blast in the taken King. Both gameplay wise and story wise. Never forget the fun we had when we smashed the taken's faces in. 😸👍 Edit (what number is this?): Well I think it's time to revive this post. I hope.

"you have been taken" Liam Neeson don't know who they are, don't know what they want. If they looking to for glimmers,, he doesn't have any. But what he do have are a very particular set of skills, skills he have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for invaders like the Oryx. If they let the solar system go now, that'll be the end of it. He will not look for Oryx, he will not pursue Oryx. But if Oryx don't, he will look for Oryx, and he will find Oryx, and he will kill Oryx.
