I can't even describe how bad of a decision that would be. There are people that have been playing Crota's End and VOG recently to get some of that gear. For me: I still use my fantastic y1 LDR5001 and Valedictorian sometimes in Crucible. I didn't get a y2 LDR, did get a lot of shit armor and weapons I already had though. My LDR's roll can't be beaten in Y2. It can't go in Trials, and I understand and accept that. Then there is also the full Crota set I like on the hunter or the VOG set on the Warlock. I doubt they would actually do this, just couldn't comprehend.
