Before I get started, I want to make it clear that I am not amazing at PvP. In fact, I'd say I'm only slightly above average.
TL:DR match making in Trials is brutal and leads to an experience that isn't enjoyable for those that aren't MLG players
With that understanding, please keep an open mind regarding what is below.
My Trials stats look like this:
* I'm in the top 14% of accounts (#160,040) of Trials players
* 0.98 KD (I'm only down 41 kills atm and I was 1.02 before these past two weekends)
* I'm in the top 14% of accounts for time played in Trials (#156,016 at 2d 23h 10m) even though I haven't put that much time into it
* Flawless more than 5 times on my hunter only, 4 of which were year one and the last one was December of year 2 (no cat banner for me :( ) There are some flawless runs that are no longer recorded as I did them on two of my hunters that I deleted for a Titan and Warlock. I estimate based on the year 1 Adept weapons that I have gone flawless roughly 8-10 times in all
* I had a 1300 ELO at one point
* I do not dedicate my weekends to going flawless and with the exception of year 2, I went flawless when I put in the time to play trials
* All the rest of my stats are slightly above average
Now, to what doesn't make sense to me: If I hop into regular crucible or Iron Banner match, I am always in the top 25% of players in the match and regularly get The Best…Around (116) and On The Bright Side... (28) out of my 1,758 games played (8% of my matches I'm the highest scoring player), I'm top 1% for Destiny Tracker's combat rating (#1,536), and top 8% for precision kills (#146,015)....
But, I can't go flawless in year two without either catching the queues when the top 10% are sleeping (my one y2 flawless) or playing with two players that are significantly better than me (which they won't because my ELO is low right now and my KD isn't 1.5 or better).
If I'm decent at crucible in general (above average regardless of how DestinyTracker gauges skill, they have some measure and I'm #358,717/top 19% DTR) why do I have to go to such extreme measures to go flawless? I'm not going to pay to be carried or have someone else play on my account. I'm also not going to beg some of these "elite" top 10% to play with me because I know they won't purely on the bases of stats (even though we'd have an easy time getting to the lighthouse together). What's worse is with the teams I play with it's like flipping a switch off and on for the teams we play against. We can go up against complete trash 0.4 KD teams and steam roll them in one match and then go against teams that steam roll us in the next match. There's very little balance in the match making right now.
I get that the Lighthouse in the Trials of Osiris is supposed to be earned and it is supposed to be the "End Game" PvP experience. But, how is it fun when someone that is above average cant even get to it? It would be easy for me to farm my KD and ELO up to get into the "in crowd" and have an easier time LFGing for higher quality players for my Trials groups, but gaming the system isn't fun either. It would also be easy for me to "donate" to a twitch streamer and get carried through all the MLG sweats after 6 wins (usually when my teams crap out), but why would I pay for some intangible rewards in a video game?
End Game PvP is pretty much the only reason I came back to Destiny after my 6 month stint in The Division. But, if I don't see a change in Trials match making I probably won't buy Rise of Iron because the story content looks lack luster and I don't always enjoy LFGing for raid groups for players with unknown skill levels.
How to make the Trials experience better for everyone: deploy a tiered match making process within Trials of Osiris. Keep the same bit where we are matched against people with similar Trials Pass scores but make two or three skill brackets or factor in skill to the equation. Basically put an elite skill bracket for that top 5% of players, an above average bracket for the top 20-6% of players, and an average joe bracket for everything below the top 20%. This will give the MLG people the hardcore "End Game" PvP experience they crave and a decent experience to everyone else as well.
Make it better by making flawless 6 or 7 wins and make each match best of 3

I suggest not even bothering with the Trials. Regardless of the rewards and prestige of it, the arena is filled with some of the most toxic, unsportsmanlike, and pompous try hards that I have ever seen in any gaming community. Its a game; not a job, chore, or measure of a gamer's worth. It should be as much about the journey as the destination. And since that particular journey is rife with immature, hateful people, unethical methods of carries, outright cheating, and rampant unsportsmanlike conduct, its not a game type that appeals to me. If someone enjoys the Trials, than cool. They should play them. But if The Lighthouse is their sole motivation for slogging through all that crap, then I wouldn't suggest playing it.

Git good Sincerely, 1500+ ELO bracket
-
Trials has needed a serious revamp since the beginning, but they completely destroyed it for average players year 2. At the least, they sound revert back to year 1. It's killed off so many players.

My stats are not significant enough to comment on this post... But since I have a hole in my back so I must have an opinion. I never made it to LH in y2 due to my stats and lower skills. However I still think it's a challenge I would like to beat the best and make it to LH on my own. The journey itself will be fun for me! Don't tell me stick this opinion back in the hole it came from... It will just come back although a bit saltier 😉

44 RespuestasThese suggestions always punish the good players because bad players whine that they suck but should win anyway. Thats not a good suggestion. You're alienated so you suggest something to alienate the other group of players. That isn't smart. A suggestion that benefits both groups is the best option. So no tiered garbage (Good players would tank on purpose so bad players would actually get stomped worse than now, easier flawless would promote that scenario), no flawless only groupings because then twitch streamers just abandon cards so it only affects a very small group that will stop playing altogether. The best suggestions are to make trials faster. It takes too long if you don't go flawless on that first run. 3 attempts can be 5 hours which is ridiculous. It should take an hour flat to go flawless for the average gamer. So that means either 1. Make it 5 wins in a row to go flawless, 2. Mercy boon eliminates 2 losses. 3. Eliminate the scorecard matchmaking and make it completely random and connection based. Lag is WAY more frustrating than losing to a super team. The suggestions above benefit both the great players (They can carry more players in their time of streaming), the casual player (2 loss mercy boon means more likely to get at least the weapon and armor from the wins). Then the fact that if you fail, the prospect of starting a new card when it takes less time is way less frustrating and daunting. Its the time commitment that needs to be changed. Don't punish great players because you are salty that they committed to being better at PVP than you.

I don't mind it being a challenge to get to the Lighthouse. I've been a couple of Times and once in Year 2, I'm pretty poor just had a good team and it worked that day but I would not care if I didn't make it because I obviously was not good enough such is life. As for all the reasons ppl give..connection,lag,ppl griefing....that happens to all teams its just rng who you play. Besides I haven't kept a single Trials weapon and only a couple of pieces of gear because of rolls (which were package wins anyway...rng again) Even if a team are just playing to keep people out of the Lighthouse that's not a problem its their game and their choise besides why should there not be guards to keep the weak out..Pretty sure if it was "real" you would have to compete against the best...but as its not "real" it don't matter either way :) Chill out and play the game you will be surprised that you will just go 9-0 when your not try-harding

1 RespuestaI understand your frustration, but the lighthouse itself was never meant to be reached by everyone, that's why we've got the bounties, which are for everyone, and the weapon and armour for the mid tier players.
-
1 RespuestaI am in your shoes with regards to current skill, and I would need to disagree... I know what the gaps in my game are and what needs to be done to fix them. If Ido that, I know I can be successful in trials. I have watched clanmates do it. Changing the MM or adding brackets would just lessen the accomplishment.
-
1 RespuestaSo try hards can't have their own game mode? & casual cry babies need to get their way, & have access to everything? Play elimination. Practice more.
-
8 RespuestasIf I can go flawless without putting any boons on then so can you. You just need a team you flow with.

1 RespuestaNormally I'd actually support Trials being a more difficult gamemode seeing as how it's an endgame pvp event that provides endgame quality loot. But Iron Banner is also an endgame pvp event and Bungie has essentially reduced that to a free gear party, Saladin practically hands out 335 goody bags for losing participants. In addition I think the luster of the lighthouse is lost with this carry culture developing, essentially allowing anyone with some extra cash and luck to make it there regardless of skill (but that's fine I guess). The only real issue I see with the current state of Trials is allowing teams who've already made it to the lighthouse continue playing for the weekend. This basically means that unless your team can break the mold of 7-8 teams making up the 1% you can't make it all the way. Having these elite few keep the keys to the Lighthouse to themselves for the whole weekend is a little screwed up imo. But I don't play Trials unless my friends need a third so whatever.

1 RespuestaMy problem with this game is that it's working too hard to stay appealing to people on the skill fringes while ignoring the "middle-class" guardians. I'm maybe slightly above average in terms of skill. Only elite top 5% players are able to have consistent success in trials. Most trials teams see me as food lol. In regular crucible Bungie is bending over backwards to make sure the bottom 25% skill players have more success than they should be entitled to. If you're in the middle then Bungie has nothing for you. They also seem to particularly hate people who like to play crucible solo or in teams of varying skill level. I've got RoI on pre-order but I don't know how much of Y3 I'll be sticking around for.
-
More or less sounds like this past weekend in trials, along with most of the other times I play it. I only get a handful of times to play trials, usually because of work, so I try to make it worthwhile if I do play it. But we more or less breezed through to what would have been our 8th with and came up against a team one after another that was way above our skill level. It was even more problematic when I watched them play Monday night. Because at that point all it was were try hards and they could barely win a match.
-
Haha - we seem to have the same experience in trials, particularly in terms of year 1 vs year 2. I think the matchmaking changes were particularly harsh. So many times I reached 8-0 without a losing our mercy, only to then face two ridiculously good teams on the trot. I've even got a suspicion that on some occasions we were matched with people on a perfect ticket grinding for the scarab. Not sure I agree with your solution though...
-
I have to agree. Bump
-
Trials is broken bro. Everyone is getting better too. Finally lag players will beat you down even if you get close. Nothin will be fixed if we keep throwing money at Bungie.

2 RespuestasAs someone who generally despises the pvp crowd in this game, I understand where you come from. All my old school friends were halo junkies, always swinging their dicks around about their kd and battle rifle trigger rhythm, shotty snipe fapfapfap. I hated it because they were all total douchebags to everyone they played against. It got to the point where they didn't want me to play with them because "playing with people who aren't good too much makes them worse". I remember before the open beta of destiny, my gf at the time (now ex) had the biggest lady boner over Destiny because of how much it was "like halo". I was never I fan, I was a pc gamer for a solid 15 treats years before ever getting a console. I called it after Destiny first came out, I said "watch, all the halo douchebags are gonna come out of retirement". Halo started it, the MLG scene of being a supreme asshole. I didn't go flawless yr1, I didn't yr2, I won't yr3 because I just don't play it. I have no desire to associate with that scene. I did however pre-order RoI because it's offering a lot of pve content and I still highly enjoy myself when I play. My blunt opinion is ToO is just god awful.
-
I will buy RoI because I don't care about Trials. Trials is a small part of the full game and to me it doesn't define the experience with the game.
-
I already preordered ROI and can honestly say I had no intentions of even trying the Trials of Osiris, the stress just isn't worth dealing with. The armor coming in ROI for trials just doesn't look good to me, maybe the weapon will be worth chasing? Bungie did announce that they do have some changes in store for Trials and maybe those will make it worth attempting again, if not then I doubt I will waste my time on the Trials of Osiris going into year 3.

Editado por LMAO: 9/8/2016 3:32:24 AMLol I'm mediocre ... 1680 elo and 1.2 k/d and love trials You're just bad at trials like every other scrub who puts up a post like this... Nothing new
by love I actually mean "don't hate" unlike the rest of this game
6 RespuestasEditado por Forgotten: 9/8/2016 3:55:50 AMTrials of Osiris is not for you. Accept that and instead ask bungie for a more forgiving competitive game mode instead of trying to change one that was designed for people who want to sweat. Aka you've wasted your time with this post at this point in destiny's history. I know its harsh but i hope this helps you "re-imagine". You could have just asked for a rewarding game mode for casual players, asked bungie to be creative but no you just complained. Sad these forum posts, wah wah wah.

15 RespuestasI'll just leave this comment here, I'm a 1.6 KD player with 83 times flawless and a 2000 elo, and yes, Trials is difficult when you don't have a good team to play with. However, I play with a team of friends and we got better by learning from our mistakes and losses. Now, with all the crying about trials (because sorry, that is exactly what is happening), people want some sort of SBMM matchmaking in trials aswell. Why? To make it even easier for the casual player to get that sweet gear they normally can't get because they aren't good enough (yet). See what I did there? I said 'yet'. Seriously, just keep practicing. Find some people to play and practice with and you'll get better yourself and have a higher chance of going flawless. Now here's a few problems the casual player isn't thinking about. See, those teams of 2.0+ KD players you always get on your 7th/8th or 9th match? We get them too. No, it's not 'fun'. But, you won't see me complain since it's simply part of the game. Those players should not be punished for being good at the game. If you want the game to force them in their own bracket, the opposite would happen. High skilled people would only play against each other which would completely ruin the fun and the chance of going flawless aswell. It would literally become a sweatfest. All this, while the casual player will be 'pubstomping' over shitty teams since they want everything given to them. Guess what, this is currently how it is for higher skilled people in normal crucible with SSBM active. If I go into any gamemode solo, I will 90% of the time lose, because I get put against only 2.0+ players with a team of 0.9's or 1.0's on my team. While the casual player, at the moment, will actually have fun in the crucible, I'm basically forced to not play anymore unless I go in with my own clan. All in all, the point I'm trying to make here at the moment is, Those annoying games against super high skilled players? We all have them. Even higher tiered/skilled people. It's a difficult match but if you give up before trying you'll always lose. The reason I went flawless a lot is simply because I got better by playing and losing. I earned that sweet Pariah Gear for all my characters which is honestly the only thing I can say in this game that people actually have to work for. And guess what? I wouldn't want it any other way. I've had so many sweaty matches and so many cards where I got pubstomped on 8-0 twice with my mercy on. We learn, we adapt and we come back stronger. It's about time people stop complaining and start doing this same thing. Tl;dr: Trials does not have to be changed, it's perfect the way it is. You have to work for it. You lose, adapt and come back stronger. Just like many players have done who are now some of the highest skilled players in trials.

I need to add another post. ELO is a useless stat. Don't ever judge a match or player by his ELO.

5 RespuestasEveryone who is eliminated from TOO should get the following three things: 1. Some salt added to their inventory that they can use to rub into their numerous wounds. 2. Once the salt is rubbed in, you get a "Salty Dog" emblem showing a dog marking his territory on the side of a lighthouse. 3. A free trip to the outside wall of the Lighthouse. There should also be a secret window somewhere in the wall so you can see the chest that you will never get. A few moments after you gaze upon the unreachable chest, Shaxx suddenly says "Oh my! Is that the smell of defeat?"

1 RespuestaEditado por FearFactory2904: 9/7/2016 2:18:34 PMI know my role in trials. I am just fodder for the good players so they can make it to lighthouse. Outside of trials i am a pretty decent crucible player but i realize i am not as good as the top trials people so I dont deserve the lighthouse. Its not for lack of trying. I do attempt to do well but I just die a lot and laugh at how bad some of these others make me look. If anything I can at least get some bounties out of it. What i dont get is all the people who rage quit or start accusing the other team of cheating.
-
I disagree. I used to rock a .4 k/d or less when I started pvp. I didn't even attempt trials because I was so bad at it. So I started playing more and more pvp; Learning how things worked, and slowly making progress. Played with the same people and started getting better at communication and learning from mistakes. Even learned something when I got my ass handed to me with a hot 5-0 loss. I eventually made it to the lighthouse. I became good enough to where my group would go 3 times flawless each trials week without using our mercy sometimes. People may say "well I don't have the time to do it." I would only have enough time to do 3 or 4 cards if that on the weekend and I'd still make it. Bungie made this game mode so the best of the best pvp players would see the lighthouse. It shouldn't be changed to allow the worst of the worst to play the worst of the worst to get the same loot the best players play for. I don't know any competitive game or sport where they allow the worst teams to reach the big prize. It would destroy the meaning of trials. I would also like to add that there are many streamers who carry bad players to the lighthouse. They do it for free too. Some do charge money but, that's not usually the case. Keep playing and surround yourself with better players. It will eventually happen, because i sure thought I'd never make it myself.
