The wall against which the Darkness breaks
Ever since I started I've always been a titan-Defender main, I love being able to be the support and backbone for my groups in PvE, and I usually just followed the trends of what's "needed" to quickly DPS bosses and what not. But since the April update I've been tinkering and messing around with builds to try and create an even better supportive build for PvE and I'd thought I'd share what I've found. Hope I help or give new ideas to my fellow bubble blowing buddies.
So before I begin I'll be explaining the purpose behind this build, and simply put, its to maximize effectiveness at supporting. With this build you will be generating tons of orbs by yourself and even more when in conjuncture with a nightstalker. You will be able to provide more health regen and safety for your allies. However this build is to completely support your allies so you opt out of dealing high DPS to bosses, having impressive stats, credit for carrying, and supporting yourself. But if your a support you know that none of that is true and that you are the backbone for your team. You keep people alive and you carry.
In both CoE and PoE is where I first developed this build and it absolutely shines there, not only does it increase your point gain but also your able to zip around while being moderately tanky and able to recover your shields pretty fast.
Strikes and nightfalls is where I tested it next, and I've got to say that this build also shines out there as well as your creating a lot of orbs for your allies, which is always welcomed constantly throughout the strikes. And if something like trickle or Exposure is on then you can expect grateful allies as it will help negate some of these negative aspects.
Raids: For most of VoG, I.E Confluxes/Oracles/Templar, it helps things go a lot more smoother as it keeps your allies constantly able to regen health and super energy. Atheon it's pointless cause of infinite super energy, but the bubble can help increase damage output. If your running Crota with a fireteam, which is usually just for giggles cause you can easily solo it all by yourself, this build is absolutely best for supporting a team. Especially if you have people that have not yet done crota. It allows faster super regen all through out, it gives a trail to follow and extra health during the abyss, and it allows for health regen for Crota.
Kings Fall Edit: Normally you want your Black spindle/Touch of Malice/Sleeper as your exotic for most of the raid. If most people (4-everyone) have the spindle then you can get away with this build. It will keep people alive and happy when your running around and trying not to die to taken or knights. And if you are carrying people through or suspect a few people to be, well frankly, not the best then this will help minimize the times where they die. This build is great for Totems, Warpriest, and Golg. You can also maybe, just maybe, get away with this build if your doing Oryx and your not a bubble in the middle (which is highly unlikely cause most people are lucky to barely get 2 titans) but you should just stick with the Sleeper if your a titan on a plate to maximize DPS. Daughters this build is pointless since no one should need that much help and you basically need all ToM's to fly through this part with no problems.
So let's get into the build now, starting off with the nodes you wanna use for this build.
Grenade:
You can use any, they all do a good job, but i prefer magnetic or spike grenades. Magnetic is more of a aggressive tool while Spike grenade is more of a defensive. I use this mostly for zoning off ads when my allies are running from danger.
The Safety Bubble:
Depending on how many bubbles you've got and what activity, you can do either Blessings or Weapons. Blessings is the safer option and is usually your best bet; weapons is for bosses that don't move often like Golg. or warpriest, or for bosses that usually don't put up much of a fight like Taniks or the flayers. Pro tip: Never be afraid to use this if either you or other allies are in dire need of some protection, it's better to stay alive and be able to DPS the boss/ traverse as a group then risk one of you (or more) dying while trying to save it for the boss.
Melee:
Any of them are good but for this specific build you want Gift Of Light as is increases your orb spawning (albeit not by much)
Codex's:
Again whatever your most comfortable with or like the best. I prefer Codex III and Codex IV as it gives a balance of armor and recovery while letting you remain very mobile
6th column (Or the first flavor as I like to call it):
You want Bastion as it increases the duration of Ward of Dawn and that's more useful then the other two perks
Final one:
Usually you would want to go for Untouchable cause it gives extra armor and decrease the cooldown on the bubble, but you actually want to put on Iron Harvest. It gives a pretty high chance to create a single Orb of Light whenever you kill one ad with a heavy. This perk is actually the backbone of this build, and I'll explain why further down the line.
Now lets get into Guns and Armor.
Primary:
Whatever you are most comfortable with, I prefer something like the Pre-April update Hung Jury cause of triple tap and it's near max stability. Scouts are generally best as it allows you to max your damage from a far. Things like Triple Tap, Grenadier, and Firefly is best.
Special:
Again whatever you choose, but a high impact sniper is best. I like using the current vendor role for 1000 yard.
Heavy:
Now this is where Iron Harvest comes in. It has great synergy with every heavy weapon, since they are ultimately designed to kill a lot of ads very fast, and your going to want to use the Bolt-Caster with the "live by the sword" perk. It has the same perk as Iron harvest, and as I can tell, the orb generation does not stack BUT the chance does. Also you can hit multiple enemies form a safe distance. I'm actually more surprised when I don't create orbs with this. The sword will also allow you to block shots for allies needing to get away or needing a safe spot to recover, assuming your bubble is not up.
Your armor can be whatever you want, I recommend the Ruin Wings as it increases the chance for heavy weapon ammo to drop, meaning more sword ammo, and increases the amount in the ammo for each drop.
Exotic Variation:
I've experimented with many different things so feel free to test out what you like if you feel, , all of them work out well but I feel like the Bolt-Caster works out best.
Bad JuJu: This increase the super energy you get when killing ads, which in turn helps you keep your Bubble on standby faster and longer then normal. This is best for when your not worrying about a boss, I.E just traversing through rooms of enemies in normal strikes, or having a boss that doesn't move like Golg.
Monte Carlo: If you don't trust yourself to not be able to stay not die all the time or not be able to get out of sticky situations then this is the gun for you. Has excellent range and has increased accuracy when not aiming down sights while firing, Hip Firing as it's called, so you don't have to panic too much. The real help is in its exotic perk, which reduces your melee cooldown whenever you deal damage with the weapon (which means that if you decide to casually shoot a boss or something, you can regen it pretty fast) and gives a chance to completely replenish it when you get a kill. This allows you to have your overshield melee up more often then not for sticky situations. Not the best option for higher skilled players.
Lord Of Wolves: Now this is a exotic shotgun you don't see everyday, but it helps none the less in situations. First is has hipfire, so hazaa for not aiming. It's exotic perk is that everytime you get a kill with this gun it grant's you an aura (which stacks up to 3 times) that lasts for 30 seconds, giving +3 recovery to all allies. I am unsure if it gives it to you or not but it helps when carrying people/ entire teams. If you go this option though, you give up all hopes of good DPS on a boss and you have to rely on your Primary, which is garbage unless its a triple tap Hung Jury or better, and a heavy weapons (preferably a machine gun). Unless it's a boss like Golg that doesn't move often and you can safely DPS it from a close distance as this gun has garbage distance. However this does have a few pro's to it, like stated before it helps allies recover faster so it's useful when carrying people of lower skill/knowledge.
Raze Lighter: gives you more super per kill, can be useful if you prefer more bubbles then orbs as it gives more super energy per kill with the sword.
Telesto/Zhalo: These are good at generating orbs/super, and are great for situational burns. Look at Brickinthewall87's post for more info
Exotic Armor: Helm of Saint-14 if you are trying to keep adds away from a specific area as it adds a blinding affect to those that enter your mighty bubble, the taken phase of Golg is the best example, or The Armamentarium if you want double grenades and more ammo for special/heavy.
If you've got any idea's or experience for or with this build then please share it below, I would love to here what you all think. I hope I help anyone out or give anyone some idea's to help support their teams. Remember that this build is to completely optimize supporting the group, not yourself, and you usually opt out of getting credit. Fight back the darkness and remember to always PRAISE THE SUN

Omnigul is the best place to make orbs. Put on that perk that gives you orbs from melee kills and get to work on those Thrall. You can do at least 35.

Editado por Hamdinitron: 9/8/2016 12:28:20 AMBasically my setup except with a heavy machine gun. The perk where as ward takes damage it gens orbs. Telesto. And an artifact for either taken head shots or void grenades depending on the scenario. And also ruin wings. More heavy=more orbs
-
1 RespuestaIt just sucks when you're pooping orbs left and right but the other two people can't be bothered to make one :/
-
1 RespuestaNobody supported Harambe :(
-
1 RespuestaI can generate 50+ orbs a strike with my Defender
-
1 RespuestaI've always struggled with Defender because it just isn't offensive enough for how I fight. This has certainly made me think of it a different way so I'm going to start experimenting with this build and see where it goes. Cheers mate.

Editado por Oriondeadstar: 9/7/2016 12:43:57 AMI already have a setup like this. I use every perk that generates orb and mainly use heavy with ruin wings. I generate 100 plus orbs in a strike. Hunter i run the taken looking helm with machine guns and tether for orbs.

1 RespuestaEditado por Vex Mythoclast: 9/6/2016 10:26:51 PMThanks. Thinking of doing defender. I was pretty good with it, especially with a fusion. I also liked spamming bubbles in mayhem. I remember a time when me and another defender put our bubbles up. The first time he killed me, but the next two times, I simply walked in, and threw a sticky at him. It was pretty funny

Usually I run defender set at giving the most orbs possible. The omnigal strike, The first wave, I run in there with my sword to take the fallen out. Then I start punching thralls while my force barrier is up. The time I'm done in just that room, there are orbs everywhere (I play next to my wife so I can see what's left). I too run this set up, especially in POE and CoE . As a support player, you can't beat this set up. Orbs forever!!

Gift of the void with iron harvest on and a heavy machine gun as well as blessings of light. You'll poop out orbs and make sure everyone has their super at all times. Just remember to use the machine gun on mobs.

2 RespuestasEditado por OZAROW: 9/6/2016 6:37:44 PMIf I'm using it for orbs to make my team be aggressive with supers I use the same build as you but I use the damage creates orbs instead of the long bubble, which makes 3. Plus alpha lupe. So bubble drop 3 Bubble damage 3 Sword = profit weapons of light Monte Carlo = profit and punch everything for steady force barrier. Telesto for giggles.

1 RespuestaI run a similar build on my titan and I mostly use raze lighter or bad juju for an exotic, but there are two other exotics I think are worth mentioning for this type of build: Zhalo supercell: while not as effective as bad juju for charging your super, it does help out quite a bit, and having an elemental primary can come in pretty handy in some situations Telesto: the orb generation makes this gun a great choice for support type characters, and it's delayed explosion effect is great for dealing with crowds, playing defensively, and even helps o it with range (only the initial impact is affected by damage falloff, the explosions which account for most of the damage have no range limit)

Hey everyone I tested it out and the hypothesis was correct, I put the edit in where the hypothesis use to be. Thanks for the support!

Tl:Dr = Iron harvest rules.

You almost lost me at "tinkering and messing around". I mean they're the same thing right? Tinker=mess? Good info. Thanks

Vey cool idea, may have to try it in some strikes.
