.......and where is that "real challenge" you're talking about? I agree that there should be challenging pve content but, where in Destiny do you find that?

Very rarely, and Randal is one such true challenge. The Celebrants of Oryx in the Forgotten Shores are decent. Also, when thinking is required. Puzzles, hidden lore or secrets, unseen mechanics, stuff like that.
