Anyone Else Saving Up Engrams for Rise of Iron?
I don't know if this will work or not, but I heard that it did for TTK's April update. I have about 10 gold engrams and quite a few legendary and sublime engrams stashed in the vault and postmaster, waiting for the new expansion to turn in and get new exotics (especially warlock legs). I don't plan to cash them in immediately, but will wait until I level up a bit and then turn them in.
If it works, I'll have some shiny new stuff; if it doesn't. I'll have some exotic shards which I sorely need. Win-win.
Anyone else going to try this?
EDIT: 24 hours later, most replies are of the belief that it won't work the way it did in April, due to that being an update rather than an expansion. This may very well be, but I see nothing to lose from trying.
I'm still sticking with my plan, since even if the engrams decrypt as old gear, they [i]should[/i] (fingers crossed) be consistent with my new, higher light level. They will also rapidly boost my cryptarch level and yield new gear that way. I've even started letting blue engrams stack up a bit at the postmaster.

I'm saving exotics and legendaries as worst case you get cryptarch rep and have a chance of getting something from that evil bastards loot table when you rank up

None of us really know. We've never had gear carry over from one dlc to another. Y2 gear is carrying over to RoI. We've never had that happen before. If it works, great. If not, you can still increase your rank.

I've stocked a load of legendary and exotic engrams. I don't need anything from them so I might as well get the rep from the cryptarch after RoI drops

1 RespuestaIt didn't work from Vanilla to TDB, from TDB to HoW, from HoW to TTK, and it won't work now. There isn't even any point in using them for cryptarch XP because all the packages will be rares and if you're lucky, an underleveled legendary.

Even if it doesn't carry over you'll still have gear at a higher light level.

I am. I always see "No that's stupid, it doesn't work" and "No you're stupid it does work", so this time I'm going to find out once and for all if it works or not.

Engrams do not carry over... never have never will... would be way too damn easy to get the new gear and hit the new light level. I tried with each DLC to make sure but I always got the pre-dlc gear

3 RespuestasExpansion not update, will reward TTK gear and won't have increased light, sure it can rank up your cryptarch but all you are likely to get is rare engrams and 4 strange coins and 4 motes of light

I have like 25 exotic engrams ready to go because i've collected all the exotics. It won't give me any new exotics or higher light lvl, but it should give me a load of cryptarch xp. My advice is to save up some engrams for marks and xp.

4 RespuestasI just counted my vault, 155 engrams. But I decrypted 6 boots this week to clear more room and cut down on my ridiculous concentration of boots. (50% armor engrams are Boots)

stick with the plan man, Ive been here since the game came out and I know how shits worked in the past, no one knows for sure how it'll go down, maybe Bungie drops the ball or they simply let those exotics turn into new stuff, nobody knows, either way if it doesnt work out you still get the same shit.

I would save them for when you hit max light you should get whatever that will be when you hand them in

Nahhh. I prefer to not try to get everything up front. it kind of ruins it for me. I actually want bungie to get rid of 3oc and have exotics you can get from 3oc be able to be gotten the old way where an exotic could drop at the end of a crucible match or strike. I think this would also reinvigorate the nightfall strike if exotics were more rare again. I like the feeling of earning my stuff slowly over the course of the game. It gives me something to work for once the new content starts getting a little repetitive. But hey, i wish you the best of luck in your decrypting of your engrams!

I believe with everything moving forward that it won't be newer gear but old gear that will decrypt at a higher light level. so stock up, it will help your light level and your crypto rep!

Yup. What the people complaining it won't work fail to realise is we will rank the cryptarch up several times which will give us new engrams, and legendary marks to buy more vanguard stuff and the possibility of new engrams. Whether it works or not there are only benefits.

I'm hoarding them because I've edged my cryptarch rank and want to save that package for RoI. I need to clean out my vault for some space though, I have a hoarding problem.

Even if it dosnt work the exotic shards will help to infuse exotics so it still win win lol
