Shotguns DO Take Skill. Here's Why.
Pretty much everyone that plays crucible and doesn't use a shotgun says that it doesn't take any skill.
Let me talk about the different types of shotgunners.
Camper- camps around a corner waiting for someone to come around
Slider- slide shotgunner, pretty self explanatory
Shotgunner- just a normal shotgunner that doesn't use it very much (uses primary more than special basically)
There are many more; t-baggers, t-baggers, etc.
I am a shotgunner myself and let me say- shotgunning takes a lot of skill, almost if not as much skill as sniping. But it's a different type of skill as sniping.
What skills do you need for sniping?
-Know where all of the sniping lanes are on every map
-Know when to snipe and when NOT to snipe
-Know when to pull the trigger
-Patience (and time)
What skills do you need for shotgunning?
-Know the places for shotgunning and the places NOT for shotgunning on every map
-Know that it's not always a 1 hit kill so be prepared to melee/shoot again
-Know to avoid all places that snipers can easily snipe you and know the maps that are not the best for shotgunning (Pantheon, etc.)
They are both very different types of skills. In my opinion, they both require the same amount of skill. Yeah, shotgunning is %65 of the time a 1 hit kill but it still requires you to know where to go to shotgun, and all the stuff that I just said.
In conclusion, shotgunning and sniping require a lot of skill. If you are good at shotgunning, stick with it. Don't go to sniping if you don't feel comfortable using a sniper. Same goes with sniping.

And you drop 2.0's with shotgun? I drop 5.0's. 2.0's isnt something to talk about. Sniping takes skill as well, patience, accuracy, pin pointing where the enemy is moving and how to counter them without exposing your teams weak point. So dont say it takes no skill, everything takes skill. I cant pop into Destiny as a fresh noob and drop a 10.5 KD with only a shotgun. It takes skill to go against another team and drop them, even in free for all. Thats skill, taking on 6 other guardians and still being on top. I sent this to another guy that said shotguns take no skill He only had 7,000 shotgun kills I have 9,000 Look at my stuff at Destiny tracker cause i didnt transfer my profile yet Vial rekz

2 RespuestasIf by skill you mean pulling the trigger then yeah you are right. I stink at this game, I dont like using shotguns but when I do, hell half the time I don't even have to be facing the enemy. By far the easiest weapon to use.

I like to juke bullets, get close, and paint walls(brain color) if your sniping u don't have to get close or dodge bullets and your hardly ever close enough to see your Brian art on the walls.

I used shotguns a lot in Y1 cause I was trash at sniping and fusions got nerfed pretty bad. Never was good at them so when side arms became available, I exclusively used them as my special. I bought the Universal Remote from Xur yesterday and played a couple of matches with it. What I learned was I'm not a good shotgunner and that it does require quite a bit of skill to be successful at it.

It does take adequate amount of knowledge to use either, but chances are that most do not have that one roll that does it all for us so you usually will run with a primary that does or an exotic that works in your favor. What really takes skill to use is the timing with a fusion rifle, especially if it has average charge rate.

If I gave a 7 year old a sniper and a shotgun and see what gun he could get a kill with first I know what your money would be on.

7 RespuestasThe reason for the general dismissal of shotties is this... You have 2 players of equal skill. Player 1 has a shotty & Player 2 has any other special weapon. Put them on a random map that comes up fairly often like exodus blue or firebase delphi (if you're on psn you're thinking sector 618). Player 1 is going to win the majority of the engagements because shotguns are easier to use, you don't need to be precise like snipers, you don't need to lead targets like fusions, & you have a ohk at your disposal unlike sidearms.

I completely agree 100%. Plus shotgunning is way more fun and just makes the game faster if most people are using shotguns in a match. It actually feels like a scifi fantasy game with people running around like crazy.

A lot of skill? Gtfo Shotgun maybe takes skill but not a lot And no snipers don't take Much skill either when someone is running around with 1000 yard state with biggest aim assist sight and hidden hand Not to mention when a sniper body shots you and switch and 1 shots you at the body

I usually dislike shotgunning in general. I'll usually only use shotty in pve. Same with sniping. I use to love to snipe in pvp during year one, I liked the feel of those old snipers. Now a days everyone thinks they're MLG hiding in back with the now generic choice of 1000 yard stare. I like to keep moving in games I hate staying still. I like to use fusions now a days. Hate shotgunners though, just seeing this guy constantly sliding or blinking just annoys me

I can make a much better argument for shotgunners. Shotguns take skill because I totally suck at using them. I have absolutely no skill in pvp therefore as the absolute zero of pvp and the baseline by which skill can be measured, I can say that shotguns do require skill. Maybe they require LESS skill than other guns. I would say that scout rifles with explosive rounds are the only thing that require NO skill because I can use them to uncertain effect.

I'm putting up my shotty in favor of a fusion atm, it just feel so much more rewarding to disintegrate your foes instead of firing blanks in people's faces.
