Game is introduced, said to provide a greater experience than anything up to this point, gain hype by advertising & interaction with community.
Game launches & leaves everyone disappointed due to lacking substance or, in some cases, the game is riddled with bugs.
Or you can buy the DLC if you want to play the game we showed you at first.
Honestly, nothing these days gets me excited because shortly after releases, all I hear/see is people warning others not to buy the game.
Future game developers, please become conscious of this & combat it in the future.

The industry has just gotten too big imo.

1 RespuestaYou might want to watch Jim Sterling's last two JimQuisition episodes, since he brings to light and rants about this exact issue
-
Happened with Destiny, then the Division and Fallout 4, now No Man's Sky. I guess it's just the nature of the industry, companies and developers will do what they can to market their games to the point where they're literally shoving it down your throats and maybe fabricating a few lies to get some excitement and pre-orders

1 RespuestaEditado por Lordsa Jar-Jar: 8/24/2016 11:11:23 PMHonestly though, you keep buying it, they'll keep dishing it out. I haven't bought a single game in the past 5months, there is simply nothing good out, and there hasn't been for a long time. Last gen titles were so much better, no idea what went wrong this gen.

2 RespuestasOnce we as a community learn to stop overhyping things and have reasonable expectations for something, we won't be so upset when they aren't the second coming of Christ.
-
7 RespuestasYeah it is kind of sad when developers feel the need to lie to sell a game.....bungie and hello games......

1 RespuestaThe problem is game devs show off what they have so far which looks great to us but to them is no where near finished, then we the consumers rush them which puts pressure on the devs, especially if they have Activision or EA breathing down their necks so they're forced to cut corners. Why? Look at GTA V, it took them over 2 years after the game came out to put heists in and people lost interest by then. Devs just need to shut the -blam!- up until the game goes gold.

I don't believe that's the case for most games I play. As far as the complaints go legit or not entitlement has been rising for years now. And this is because tech gets better and better and we actually end up getting those gems of a game that do everything right. Thus setting the bar even higher for any other game that gets dropped. I don't blame companies for hyping their game. I place that on people who don't bother to research or follow the game close enough. I knew NMS was going to be lack luster from the get go. Why? Because I took information as information. Didn't let my bias of loving space games to get in the way. Despite how lacking NMS is i'd have totally bought it on release if it was cheaper. 60$ is a little generous considering the lack of content.

1 RespuestaWhile the companies do hype up their games it should be expected. Every company hypes up their product to get sales. But it is up to the consumer to actually make an educated purchase and not just blindly spend their money. Both the companies and the consumer take fault here.
-
1 RespuestaHow dare companies hype up their products! If I was trying to sell a game I would tell people they are going to be disappointed in it and that it's a piece of garbage
-
1 RespuestaI went in super hyped for DS3, loved it. Now I'm waiting for the DLC, I'm gonna die a lot. Again.
Because I'm on NG+5 at level 200.
Skyrim remastered hype

This is why people shouldn't set high expectations when it comes to purchases. If you know what you're getting you'll expect more. If you don't know you'll be pleasantly surprised. Say you were to order an item from a restaurant. This item is something you get at said restaurant pretty often. The more you eat it, the less excited you are because you know what you're getting. One day you try something new, you have no expectation for how it'll taste. You're pleasantly surprised with something new and will enjoy it much more due to having no expectations. It's the same with a hyped game, the more you know, the more you'll end up being disappointed. The less you know the more surprised you are

I don't get why people are just noticing this now... It's already too late, the damage has been done.

6 RespuestasFolks tend to forget that video games are an entertainment medium that increasingly shares more in common with movies; including months, sometimes years of hype for only a few hours of worthwhile distraction. Plus, not all video games can redefine what video games are and can be. In the past, before games became a billion dollar industry, the best games were discovered; not advertised and hyped. Contra, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Jax and Dexter, Ratchet and Clank, Spyro, Mega Man, Chrono Trigger...these are games that won over players for what they are, not the marketing. So the next time you get caught up in the hype, remember: it's just a game, not a life changing experience.
-
I rarely watch trailers, or listen to pre release hype. As a result, I'm not disappointed because I have these huge expectations going in.

2 RespuestasThis isn't Destiny though, amiright?
#desticle
Because of the consumer AKA YOU People have this new thing where they over hype every game. They watch trailers sometimes years before release and comb over every detail they can find. They make up in their own mind what the game will be On the other hand publishers lie in trailers, enhance graphics then downgrade them for release, show shit that isnt even in the game etc but they do this because yall are stupid enough to fall for it The only game Ive had this happen to me with was Halo MCC but that was just bad luck. I figured itd be impossible to screw it up yet they did. After that I havent been too hyped for anything. I just wait and see now
-
For everything in life that I may be excited for, I go in with zero expectations. That way I can't be dissapointed.
-
Overwatch is exactly what was advertised, I mean just because you see it a lot don't mean it's true for everything.
-
I hope Mass Effect Andromeda doesn't turn out like this. There's always a chance, even if it's very slim. Idk, we'll find out in the future.
-
Such a shame developers think they can deliver a subpar product after hyping it and still expect people to buy dlc for all the cut content.
-
7 RespuestasI want to become a game developer when I'm older, but this trend is making me lose hope in gaming altogether.
-
that is all the fault of the customer. they expect so much from what they said. the developers can't stop hype. dumb people create it and say things that the developers have never said.
