Yeah I know right? A lot of games flop at those parts because they make them too clunky or gimmicky. A game that did the end fight really well was Dragon's Dogma. You know the final boss from the moment you see him at the start of the game, and the entire quest leads up to you battling him to gain your heart back.
The Taken King Raid King's Fall should have had more fighting and less mechanics, as Oryx is so boring in that room. His daughters having those mechanics is fine, as they are Deathsingers and immensely powerful ones at that, but Oryx is the head honcho. Crota is way more fun than Oryx to fight which is just wrong.

King's fall was pretty MMO-y, very mechanical. Really bosses should play to strengths of the games they're in or at least throw unexpected challenges at you. I think that's why Dragon's Dogma had such a good boss, it kept the sense of scale without straying from the core combat mechanics for weird gimmicks.

Well, besides the unnecessary back climbing part(you know the one) was a bit gimmicky, but at least it wasn't the entire fight like with Oryx's mechanics. I would have enjoyed actually dodging his giant form and trying to damage certain weakspots or something, idk, just not....that.

I can forgive it though, it was more game than gimmick; obviously reverse that for Oryx.

Right, the mechanic was at least something we had done many times over many hours prior, which wasn't so bad really. Really if Oryx had completely different mechanics to the Daughters of Oryx, I wouldn't even be as mad. It just felt recycled to me but less fun. This is why the Vault of Glass Raid is so praised; because the combat was enhanced/assisted by mechanics, not the other way around.

The way I see it is that VoG did a better job of teaching you the final boss' mechanics than KF, it didn't feel as forced. I did like opening the door to the Warpriest though because that was a proper test of teamwork and timing.

Yes! The Totem section was perfectly fine in my opinion, and lead to a pretty cool boss battle. I loved almost everything about VoG, except for the Gorgon Maze. I felt that the area would have been much better as an actual maze built out of Vex architecture instead of Venusian cave networks.
