This is just a post to share some well thought out builds for different subclasses. This will start as being centered on PVE, but if anyone wants to add PVP builds feel free to.
[b]NOTE:[/b] An exotic weapon and armor aren't necessary to create a nice build, it just so happens that most of the ones that have shown up here so far need them. For example, it would be hard to make a gunslinger build in which an exotic weapon would play a large role.
[u]Lifesteal Voidwalker[/u]
Exotic Weapon: Red Death
Exotic Armor: The Ram
Grenade: your choice
Super: your choice
Melee: Surge
First perk: your choice
Second perk: Embrace the Void
This build is designed for almost everything you do to give you Lifesteal, even if you have all abilities on cooldown. Lifesteal activates on primary kill, grenade kill, super kill, and melee hit. Red Death and Lifesteal have separate cooldowns so it's possible to activate one after another for even better survivability.
[u]Self-Res Sunsinger[/u]
Exotic Weapon: Tlaloc
Exotic Armor: Purifier Robes/The Stag depending on how safe you feel
Grenade: Fusion
Super: Fireborn
Melee: Flame Shield
First perk: Radiant Will
Second perk: Gift of the Sun
The two grenades and Tlaloc active allows you to make up for your lack of super by increasing the strength of your neutral game. If you want, you can replace Flame Shield with Brimstone and Radiant Will with Sunburst to make up for the loss of orb creation as well.
[u]Orb Defender[/u]
Exotic Weapon: Telesto
Exotic Armor: Crest of Alpha Lupi
Artifact: Void Melee orb chance
Grenade: your choice
Super: your choice
Melee: Gift of Light
First perk: Gift of the Void
Second perk: Iron Harvest
With this build you will almost always have a way to generate orbs, whether it's through melee, heavy, special, or super. Crest of Alpha Lupi does not help with any orb generation other than that of your super, but those are still free orbs and the reduced revive time further solidifies you as a true support role. Recommended heavy weapon is a sword.

Exotic Armor: An Insurmountable Skullfort
Grenade: Flashbang
Super: your choice
Melee: Overload
First perk: Transfusion

Like most of my builds, this is focused on maximum survivability. Basically your build revolves around always having a melee charge to punch something to death with so that Transfusion activates. Use up both charges, hope you get one back, if not, Monte Carlo and repeat.

[u]Line-breaker Striker[/u]
Exotic Weapon: Raze Lighter (Dark Drinker)
Exotic Armor: Ruin Wings (Pergerine Greaves)
Grenade: Flashbang
Super: Shockwave
Melee: Overload
First perk: Transfusion
Second perk: Shoulder Charge
The role of this build is essentially to force progress in areas where you're being held back by multiple high health targets. Skate in, shoulder charge your first target, follow up with a whole bunch of uppercuts with the Lighter (spin attacks with Dark Drinker). Shoulder charge for health regen when necessary.

[u]Battle Bard Sunsinger[/u]
Exotic Weapon: your choice, best option is Bad Juju or Telesto (Monte Carlo)
Exotic Armor: Heart of the Praxic Fire (Claws of Ahamkara)
Artifact: Solar melee orb
Grenade: Fusion
Super: Song of Flame
Melee: Brimstone
First perk: Sunburst
Second perk: Gift of the Sun
This build is designed to make the Sunsinger pretty much as supportive as possible. Orb generation from melee causes the team's supers to charge faster, and Song of Flame makes their grenades charge faster. (Always go for melee kills when you have the chance)

Exotic Weapon: Thorn (you can see where this is going, can't you?)
Exotic Armor: Voidfang Vestments
Artifact: Memory of Felwinter
Grenade: Firebolt
Melee: Flame Shield
First perk: doesn't matter, they're all trash now
Second perk: Touch of Flame
Nothing to say, really. Two burning firebolts on every respawn and Thorn. Cheese the entire crucible.

Exotic Armor: Bones of Eao

Jump: Controlled Jump
Super: Vanish

Pretty common Bladedancer invis build. If you ask me, though, the weapon and armor could be swapped out for something else if you don't care so much about being a sneaky Speedy Gonzalez.

Exotic Weapon: Bad Juju
Exotic Armor: Celestial Nighthawk
Special: Triple Tap sniper rifle
Grenade: your choice
Super: Deadeye
Melee: Circle of Life
First perk: Scavenger
Second perk: Gambler's Dagger
Do the deeps with the sniper, slap them with the golden penís when possible. 'Nuff said. Knives and primary both decrease super cooldown, and collecting ammo to refill your sniper reduces the cooldown of your knife.

[u]Endless Shield Defender (AKA the Supersoldier)[/u]
Exotic Weapon: Monte Carlo
Exotic Armor: No Backup Plans
Special: Shotgun of your choice (performance bonus is optimal)
Grenade: your choice
Super: your choice
Melee: War Machine or Unbreakable
First perk: Relentless
Second perk: your choice
"The 'Monte Carlo' has a chance to refill your melee charge and using 'No Back Up Plans' and a shotgun with this build provides with lots of Force Barrier shields to maximize your survivability." -I Got Your Back
With this, you can essentially have endless Force Barrier. By the time your Force Barrier runs out you will have easily gotten enough kills with Monte Carlo to renew your melee charge, at which point a quick shotgun hit will renew it. Use War Machine in lower level content for extra supersoldier-ness, but Unbreakable is recommended in higher level content.

Spike Grenade
Black Hole
Ensnare
Lockdown
Predator
Not necessarily either a PVP or PVE build, this one is just more fun than anything. With all of the abilities listed, you can completely control any zone and lay traps for your enemies (read: be a sneaky beaver).

Exotic Weapon: Any sword with max ammo capacity (ie. Raze-Lighter)
Artifact: Memory of Radegast
Jump: Better Control
Grenade: Choice (Flashbang recommended)
Super: Choice

First perk: Headstrong
Second perk: Juggernaut
Literally never run out of sword ammo. Destiny meets Dark Souls.

Slight twist on the Sunsinger support build: Use Claws of the Ahamkara and Monte Carlo with max Strength, and always go for melee kills when you have the opportunity. And for a Gunslinger build, Deadeye, Circle of Life, Scavenger, Bad Juju, Celestial Nighthawk, and Triple Tap Eirene RR4. F*ck your boss.
