Simple question really that got me thinking. How will people judge if the game is successful enough? Will you judge by sales of the game? Personal gratification? Review scores? If so, what score would you class as being successful?
For me, as long as it meets my personal expectations, then I'm gonna be happy. I would love it for NMS to get some good reviews across the board though. I know the game isn't to everyone's taste but the effort put in for such a small team is amazing and I feel like they deserve it.

Population in one month.

1 RespuestaBy if people are still playing it 5 months from now. Like seriously can I get a game that doesn't hit a downfall after a few months?
-
By how much enjoyment its given me. Currently sitting at a 11/10
ive always dreamed of a game where i can simply fly around space. This game is what ive wanted :D
Sales and critic reviews. Sales will determine if the game is financially successful, while reviews will determine if it's critically successful. I won't judge it by user reviews though, because most are either perfect 10s or 0s.

3 RespuestasI will judge it by how it is remembered. - If people are still playing in two years, irks be a huge success. - If people are looking back fondly in two years, it'll be a fair success. - If in two years people are saying, "Yeah, it was fun..." it'll be a moderate success. - If people give up on it, stop playing in two months and never talk about it again, it'll be a failure. - If people start saying things like, "Aw man. I hope this isn't the next No Man's Sky..." in regards to future games, it'll be a huge failure.

I won't judge it, I'm not even going to get it. I'll keep playing the games i like, and let others play theirs. The game is not for me, but I doubt care enough to bash it and wait for it to "die".

It doesn't really appeal to me but so far everyone that has been looking forward to it are satisfied. Who knows though, it hasn't even been out for a day.

1 RespuestaThe game is a success for me if I can play it and really like it. It has to have hundreds of hours of enjoyment in it. But to get me to buy it, I need to have the console to play it. I also have to have some decent reviews before I buy it to even get me interested. As of now I do not have a PS4. Nor am I willing to get one just to play this game. So I think it will not be the huge success that it could have been.

What i think of it on the 12th when i can play it on PC.

2 RespuestasI'm done with single player games so to this guy it has already been a overhyped letdown.
-
Sales, amount of people streaming it, and amount of people still playing a year from now.
-
You give it a week and month and see what happens from there. Like division.
-
1 RespuestaJudging from sales would be stupid. Horrible games like duke nukem forever and aliens colonial marines sold millions of copies. Judging by professional rules would be stupid because games like destiny were reviewed to be mediocre but hundreds of thousands of people still log on every week because they enjoy the game. So the best would probably be aggregate scores on meta critic in like a year.

If I don't get blown away, or eaten, as soon as I land.
-
Whether or not I enjoy myself playing it.
-
It's a succes if I can put 60+ hours into it.

I will not care. I am not interested in the game, so nothing about it will affect me.
-
If I think it's good, then it's good. That's pretty much all I care about.
-
If I enjoy it and it sells relatively well it is a success in my books. Not as bothered about review scores. I know it's different, but Suicide Squad had bad reviews, I went to see it and I loved it so I don't really listen to them.
-
If I can put in a tenth of the hours into NMS as I've put into Destiny, then it's a success.
-
First and foremost, if I enjoy it. A game's failed its primary goal if I don't enjoy it. Then, critical acclaim. Then, sales.

I think it's rather difficult to measure a games success. Sure, reviews are the number one thing for that but their score has no impact on your own personal opinion. If you like a game then it's a success no matter what anybody else says.
