So I've been playing Destiny for a good three months now and am absolutely in love with the game. It feels like half of fallout smashed together with half of a Star Wars movie and I enjoy all of it. But, there is one thing I have a problem with. It seems getting concise answers about the lore is very difficult. I'll list what I know so far and what I wish to know. I'm not sure if this forum has a character limit or anything, so hope I'm not breaking any rules. Anyway, to begin!
I guess I'll go chronologically from what I know, anyway. Also, I have read a lot of the grimoire cards so u want something a little more exact than that.
Prior to the golden age, Earth was in fair standings. At this time the Traveler was helping what are now the fallen and cultivating them as well as assisting their civilization in development. Something happened, or the fallen did something the Traveler didn't like and he abandoned them, and they were almost completely wiped out by the darkness. Somehow the traveler wound on Mars, and we sent a spaceship to go check the anomaly out. Somehow the Traveler then started to help us and we entered into our golden age. When the darkness came, it seems the Traveler was going to leave use but Rasputin used his dark matter weapons to cripple if, unleashing a devastating wave of light which wiped out the darkness and created the Awoken from a fleet of ships out in space that were at the collision point between the light and darkness, hence the saying "Starlight is my mother, darkness my father."
The Traveler then made ghosts using what little energy he had left to go seek out those worthy to wield the light. We exited our golden age and entered the collapse. Then lots of stuff happened here to which I don't know much about like Osiris and the Titans defending the Wall etc. Eventually we got word of Hive on the moon and set Eris Morn and some other guardians to attack Crota, they failed and we gave the moon up to the Hive.... And that's about it, or at least that's where our story starts and we go and kill Crota and then Oryx.
So, here are my big questions:
What is the Traveler? Is it a machine as the Fallen see it? Is it a sentient being? Is it simply a vessel containing a sentient being? Or is it the abstract representation of light (or goodness)?
Why did the Traveler want to leave us (is it just that scared of the darkness)?
What is the darkness? Is it the Hive? Or that thing, the oversoul? Similarly what is the light? The Traveler?
Can anyone give me a brief history (or long, if you don't mind) of the city and all the battles? I only know some stuff, like Osiris and Saint-14.
Who are the Hive gods? Is Oryx and Crota really the two leaders, or is the oversoul in charge? Why did Crota decide to come and attack our Solar System, just on a quest of ultimate dominance?
Who are the Cabal? Why do we only hear about their emperor once or twice?
Why does Oryx "take" Hive when they are already under his command? Is he not a Hive prince like Crota?
Why did the Traveler abandon the Fallen?
What is this Sieva everyone is talking about?
Why, if I play as an Awoken, does the Queen not identify me as part of her species. Is this just from a gameplay perspective, I.E. didn't want to give Awoken special treatment at that part of the game?
I heard about some battle where Shaxx disobeyed orders and lead a winning raid, more on this?
These are just the start - and I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this and reply. I will be updating it with each answer I get, assuming it doesn't crash under the weight of other posts. If two answer conflict I will list both however if one has evidence it will only be listed. Thanks again..

8 RespuestasEriana put together a team to kill Crota. She found Toland the Shattered, a Warlock who was banished for seeking too much Hive knowledge. She gathered others, including the Hunter, Eris Mourn. All died down in the Hellmouth, except Eris, who Toland had taught to learn from the dark and survive in hiding. She came out changed, and now serves with Ikora's Hidden (a group of Warlock spies). Backtracking to stuff I skipped: Back in the early days of the City, the Fallen all grouped together to attack us. The Guardians stood on the Wall at Twilight Gap, standing strong against alk the Fallen Houses, except one. The Wolves had entered the Reef asteroid belt on their way to Earth to join the attack. The Queen knew the City would fall if they joined, so she took the risk of revealing the Awoken's existence and attacked. The Wolf fleet was decimated and now everyone knew of the Awoken. The Reef Wars ensued, the Awoken fighting the Wolves, who were also fighting each other for control. The Queen won and named herself Wolf Kell. The Cabal claimed Mars sometime after the Collapse began. They are a ruthless military first who know absolutely nothing about the Light and Darkness. Their emperor sent them out to conquer our system. The Vex were first discovered when Crota used his sword to open a wound (basically a Hive portal) and the Vex emerged from it. The Vex fought the Hive, but were eventually forced out. Oryx threw Crota through one of their Gates as punishment and became strong by battling through time. Unfortunately, the Vex's adaptive measures lead them to learn sword logic like the Hive (Darkness' philosophy) and the only logical path they could find was to worship the Darkness. In their birthplace, the Black Garden, they took a manifestation of Darkness (possibly a Worm) and let it grow there. We discovered the Vex during the Golden Age and began studying them as we fought their weak efforts to take over. When the Collapse came they made a push, turning Mercury into a machine in days. Venus is mostly under their control and Mars is only uncontrolled by them because the Cabal keep beating them down. They seek a Final Shape like Oryx, but they wish to be in control in all possible timelines. They created the Vault of Glass in Venus, a place where there is no time and they control all time. Atheon was manifested to control it and be the regulator of all time. Inside the Vault, the Templar, Oracles, and Gorgons hav the power to completely erase anything inside the Vault from time itself, except those things that are part of the Vault. A team that went in the Vault (Praedyth and others) and made the "shield" we use to defeat him, because it is made from a dead Gorgon (part of the Vault), they also left Light in the Vault, which u use to cleanse yourself against the Templar. We stopped the Black Garden's Heart before its purpose was met. The 3 bodies we fought were supposed to all be active at once as soon as the Heart was strong enough to control them all. They would hav left the Garden and made the whole universe as it is in the Vault. Nothing could hav saved us then, we all would've been erased. If I think of anything else I'll post it. And if u hav anymore questions, just ask. Would u like to hear about the Lore of Thorn and The Last Word? Or more of the Book of Sorrows and Oryx? Or even of the lore of the storyline we follow in-game?

Looking at some of your questions, I have an answer to a couple- Read the Books of Sorrow. Found under the Enemies section. GREAT story about Oryx's rise to power and his army of Hive.

Somehow the Traveler then started to help us and we entered into our golden age.
The Traveler fled once the Hive found it with the Eliksni. Once we got in contact with it, the Traveler terraformed our planets and extended life expectancy, which sparked a Golden Age of exploration, technological breakthroughs, and overall prosperity
The Rasputin crippling the Traveler theory is still up for debate, but yeah, the Awoken were born from the clash of Light and Darkness
The Traveler then made ghosts using what little energy he had left to go seek out those worthy to wield the light. We exited our golden age and entered the collapse. Then lots of stuff happened here to which I don't know much about like Osiris and the Titans defending the Wall etc.
Humanity's history with the Traveler is broken up into three basic time periods. The Golden Age, the Dark Age, and the City Age. The Golden age is shrouded in mystery and much of the advanced that it birthed have been lost. The Dark Age is the time when the dust of the initial collapse was still settling, this was a time plagued by Fallen Pirates, Warlords, and Bandits. Many legends of the first Guardians are found here, including Jaren Ward and Dredgen Yor. The City Age began with the formation of the Walls around the Last City. This age was said to be ushered in by a Titan of unbelievable strength known as Rezyl Azzir and many other first Guardians who braved the wilds to find hidden establishment to lead pilgrimage to the City. This Age was also plauged with Warlords who wished to control the City. Rising tensions of this Era would lead to what was formally know as the Faction Wars. Close to the beginning of this age, the City's walls were tested by the Battle of Six Fronts, where three Fallen Houses, Devils, Winter and Kings, assaulted the City from every side. Four orders of Titans were divided into Six Fronts, none of which faltered.
Eventually we got word of Hive on the moon and set Eris Morn and some other guardians to attack Crota, they failed and we gave the moon up to the Hive.... And that's about it, or at least that's where our story starts and we go and kill Crota and then Oryx.
The attack on the Moon was ment to reclaim it from the Hive. After the discovery of Crota and the death of Wei Ning, her close friend, Eriana-3, formed a fire team anf lead an attack on Crota's Throne World, which failed
What is the Traveler? Is it a machine as the Fallen see it? Is it a sentient being? Is it simply a vessel containing a sentient being? Or is it the abstract representation of light (or goodness)?
All that is known to be fact about the Traveler is that it's an ancient being of the Light. It is sentient, but has been in a slumber ever since the Collapse
Why did the Traveler want to leave us (is it just that scared of the darkness)?
The Traveler raises Proxy Armies to defend it from the Darkness, if a civilizations is at the point where it can no longer protect it, it'll flee. The reason why, whether it contains something precious or if it simply fears death, is still unknown
What is the darkness? Is it the Hive? Or that thing, the oversoul? Similarly what is the light? The Traveler?
The Hive are a proxy army for the Darkness similar to how we are for the Light. The Darkness, also know as the Deep, is an entity of power and philosophy, as is the Light. The Deep values taking and death, the easy and brutal way. The Sky (Light) values giving and life, the hard but caring way. The Traveler is possibly the Light equivalent to the God Worms, who commune to the Deep
Can anyone give me a brief history (or long, if you don't mind) of the city and all the battles? I only know some stuff, like Osiris and Saint-14.
The Walls were built over several centuries, during that time Rangers and Pilgramage leaders found settlements out in the Wild. One notable battle is Twilight Gap, one of the maby battles during the Six Front Offensive. This was fought at one of the artillery stations the City used against the Fallen at Six Fronts. The station was overrun with Fallen, many Guardians fought to keep them back, and many of them died.
Who are the Hive gods? Is Oryx and Crota really the two leaders, or is the oversoul in charge? Why did Crota decide to come and attack our Solar System, just on a quest of ultimate dominance?
The Hive Gods are Oryx, Savathun, Xivu Arath, Crota and Nokris. Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath were the three daughters of the Osmium King back on Fundament who transformed the Krill (proto-hive) into the Hive. They found and released the Worm Gods after making a deal to take their Larvae into their body. With each kill, they feed their worm, increasing their power but also increasing the Worms hunger. The Oversoul is just a way Crota's sisters protect his soul in the Ascendant Realm using their souls that they seperated from their physical form. Oryx is the leader of the Hive. Crota is in our system as punishment for letting the Vex into the Ascendant Realm when he cut a hole in the Universe. (Could be wrong, it's been a while since I read up on this area of the Hive)
Who are the Cabal? Why do we only hear about their emperor once or twice?
The Cabal are War Turtles who destroy plsnets for getting in their way. They have six words for advance and zero for retreat and their protocol is to blow up any ship that crashes. The reason we don't hear much about the Empire is because they send out troops with one simple instruction; accomplish the mission, or don't come back.
Why does Oryx "take" Hive when they are already under his command? Is he not a Hive prince like Crota?
When Oryx takes things, he carves away the rot and gives them their "final shape" or their perfect form. Being taken is an honor to the Hive. Oryx isn't a Hive prince, he's what stated to Hive in the first place (and technically he's a princess)
Why did the Traveler abandon the Fallen?
It must have deemed them a lost cause and left while it still could
What is this Sieva everyone is talking about?
SIVA is a nanobot technology that was said to preform miracles in architecture as well as biomedics during the Golden Age
Why, if I play as an Awoken, does the Queen not identify me as part of her species. Is this just from a gameplay perspective, I.E. didn't want to give Awoken special treatment at that part of the game?
If your Guardian is Awoken, that means they left during the Reef's mass exodus snd labeled traitors by the Queen. It's probably for the best anyways, the Reef is nothing but a floating scrap heep filled with smug Dregs.
I heard about some battle where Shaxx disobeyed orders and lead a winning raid, more on this?
This was at the Battle of Six Fronts, the tides had turned in favor of the City and caused a split between the ranks of the Fronts, one wanting to continue Defending (Zavala and Saladin both supported this) and the other wanting to attack (Shaxx and Saint-14 wanted this) Shaxx lead an attack which is most likely the source of tension between him and Saladin, and Saint-14 lead a crusade against the Fallen. Hopefully this answers your questions. If I was unclear on anything, I'll try to clear it up

1 RespuestaEditado por foxburton99: 8/9/2016 2:10:32 AMI didn't answer some of your questions thoroughly so here's another comment: The Traveler took on the form of a machine when it entered our realm, while the Ahamkara took the form of what we'd call dragons (I'll put links to some posts on the Ahamkara, Nine, and Void/Veil). Despite its size, the Traveler has no gravity, and has a conscience despite its machine body. Oryx, Savathûn, and Xivu Arath are the daughters of the Osmium King (their people's former ruler) and are now considered gods by the Hive. They were the ones who discovered the Worms and first accepted them. When Aurash became Auryx he declared himself king of the Hive, and became the Taken King when he became Oryx. The Darkness didn't enter our realm like the Light/Traveler and Ahamkara, but intend influences is through its minions. It builds proxy armies like the Traveler (but the Traveler doesn't like making armies). The Darkness uses the Worms, who can speak with it and who granted the Hive its power. Oryx learned how to speak to the Darkness through a Worm and the Darkness taught him how to Take. Crota is the Hive Prince because Oryx is his father. The Oversoul was an idea from Oryx's twin daughters, who found a way to focus their deaths into a single point that could kill others and make them near unkillable. Crota learned Oversoul from his sisters and Warpriest created his own form of the Oversoul by studying Crota. SIVA is nanotechnology from the Golden Age. The House of Devils found it after the Collapse and used it to modify their bodies. The Lords of Iron fought back and sealed SIVA away, but only Lord Saladin survived. In Rise of Iron, the Devils hav reawakened SIVA and seek to destroy us again. I'd love to tell u all about each Fallen House. At Twilight Gap, Shaxx lead a group of Titans against the Fallen and pushed them back. He was praised and scolded for his rash decision. Wei Ning did the same as Shaxx at Six Fronts. Here's the link I was talking about: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/209220013/0/0 There's a link to another post at the bottom of it when you're done reading that one

8+ more years of planned game development and story telling, they can't release too much in the first year or two, everything was/is just getting set up. Pay attention to the little hints in game, they are everywhere, and are clues to future content. For now, we're stuck with our own spinfoil speculations.

I can only answer one questions and that is answering what the darkness is, the darkness is harambe

And the Awoken Guardians and Awoken on Earth are those who left the Reef to Live on Earth. They are considered traitors by other Awoken and are treated as such when entering the Reef Oh I can also tell you all about Xûr and the Nine :3 Plus the Reef Wars if u don't hav all the Grimoires

Editado por Hunted-werewolf: 8/9/2016 12:35:32 AMThere are three "big" battles involving the City. The Battle of Six Fronts: House of Devils lead an attack on the City from six different fronts. The Iron Lords where born and Osiris was declerad as a legend. It was after this battle the wall was built. The battle of Twilight Gap: All the houses where going to earth as a united force, they whould probatly have won if it wasent for the queen who killed Virixas, kell of wolves and started the Reef Wars. The wall broke and the fallen where swarming in. Lord Shaxx than made an gamble: he took the litle forces he had most frames and rushed ahead wiping out the fallen and basiclly saving the last save city. The Great Disaster: A bunch of guardins where trying ti reclaim the moon, Crota and hes knight then killed thausonds of guardins and thats why the most common name of the battle is "The Great Disaster" Six guardians than tried to avenge their dead brothers and sisters by going to the temple of crota and kill him once for all. They failed horribly and Eris was the only surviving member. Not as detailed but i whould recomend going to My Name is Byff:s Youtube channel and check out hes videos if you wanna know more about destiny lore.

Okay fasten you're seatbelt, I'm gonna give u a crash course on the history of Destiny The Light and Darkness (AKA the Sky and Deep) can't be defined as good and evil. They are philosophies. The Light is the belief that prosperity leads to peace and the Darkness believes that peace can only be obtained when only those which are worthy of living are left (the Final Shape). The Traveler created a machine body as its physical manifestation in our realm. Long ago, the Krill (who become the Hive) discovered the Worms, who are the Darkness's agents in our realm. They Krill hated the Traveler because they believed it didn't care about them. The Hive ate the Worms, which gave them power and eternal life. But there's a cost: the Hive must constantly kill to feed their Worms, and the more they feed it the hungrier it gets. Aurash (female) became Auryx (male) upon taking a Worm, and later Oryx (male) when he learned how to Take. Oryx and his 2 sisters (Savathûn and Xivu Arath) constantly chased the Traveler, killing all that they encountered. The Traveler eventually stopped at the Eliksni (Fallen) home world, and they didn't do anything to upset it. As with every other race it visited, the Traveler ran when the Darkness came and left the Eliksni to defend themselves. This is known as the Whirlwind and gave them the name, Fallen. They seek to claim the Traveler as their own and become great again. The Traveler came to our system, and we sent astronauts to go see what it was when it reached Mars. It made life possible on every planet it visited, and we expanded in our Golden Age. But like the Eliksni's Whirlwind, we had our Collapse. The forces of Darkness came, and soon we only had Earth. The Traveler was sick of running and leaving the beings it loved to die, so it fought with us. The Traveler was hurt in the battle, and Rasputin's missiles served as the finale blow to push back the Darkness (not aimed at the Traveler). Rasputin's attack hit where Light and Darkness met, creating the Awoken. The Traveler now sits above Earth, and all the people that were left fled to it and built the Last City. The Traveler created Ghosts when it was crippled, and they began seeking out Guardians among the dead. The early City was ruled by factions, each using Guardians as muscle to enforce their rules. But the Speaker and others roused the Guardians to fight the factions, initiating the faction wars. Things weren't going well since they had to fight the Darkness and each other, so the fighting stopped and the Speaker, Consensus, and Vanguard were elected to lead those in the City. I don't know much about Saint-14, but he was trained by the Speaker and became like a son to him. Saint-14 slew a Archon single handedly and when Osiris (the Warlock Vanguard) was banished, he was sent to chase him. We hav not heard from Saint-14 ever since. Osiris seeks knowledge and knows much about the Vex. Eventually, a force of thousands of Warlocks along with many Titans and Hunters went to take back the Moon. Things were going well until Crota came. He killed thousands, including the Titan Wei Ning. Eriana-3 was one of the surviving Warlocks, and she vowed revenge on Crota. Continued in next comment.

Oryx has two sister we havent seen yet, he is father to Crota. Malok is one of Oryx sister's son. And Nokris is belived to be Oryx second son who where wiped out of existence by the Vex.
-
The traveler abandoned the fallen because Oryx and the Darkness were approaching the fallen's planet. It knew that if it stayed it'd die, but if it fled it'd survive to fight another day.

Editado por SancusXenon: 8/8/2016 3:41:35 PMThe Queen treats the Awoken Guardians differently from her own awoken because she sees earth-born awoken as traitors.
