This is a bit of a tough question to answer as your current level has a lot to do with where to focus your efforts. That being said here is some general info: Decrypting and accepting faction packages will give you armor about 4 points higher than your currently equipped light level (there are caps so this only works to a point). Always make sure you have your highest light gear on when getting gear. Exotics can decrypt all the way to 335. They are also tied to your current light so no point in decrypting a primary weapon engram if your weapon is already higher than your overall light. Most faction packages give gear up to 330. All engrams (except exotics) seem to cap out at 300. I've had a few exceptions but don't hold your breath. Heroic strikes can occasionally drop rewards up to 335, fairly rare though. Challenge of elders can drop 335 gear (ghosts included) and the scorecard rewards can be up to 335 as well (class items included here). Court of Oryx can drop 335 artifacts, mainly on the tier 3 runes (you don't have to be the one starting the event but your chances are much better if you do) The other options for 335 gear are nightfall, trials, raiding and then finishing the mountaintop quest line for Shax and completing his all his weekly bounties. So if you want quick path from low level, farm strikes like crazy (be sure to get those daily bounties) up to 290ish. While doing that save your exotic engrams (you should be using you three of coins while farming the strikes). Save faction packages as long as you can without getting another faction level (they don't seem to give you another package if you already have one) then redeem them (don't forget to max your light first). If you are lacking a ghost or artifact do court of oryx sometimes they will drop blue ones over 300 there. Once you are close to 330 start farming the above stuff that can drop up to 335 gear and hope for the best. The exotics are a quick way to boost up your light but they are more rare so use them wisely and it shouldn't take long to get to and then past 330.
