Am I the only one who thinks it's a total rip off of the Reaper tech & Reaper forces in Mass Effect? Specifically in terms of appearance.
Strange technology?
Fusion of flesh and machine?
and it corrupts?!
Oh, look... It's also RED!
Sorry, Bungie... Bioware beat you to it lol
Edit: Rip off wasn't accurate, it was my opinion. I personally saw similarities between those corrupted Dregs and the possessed Saren. I was strictly talking about the originality and creativity of their appearance. The concept itself reminded me of it even more. DOOM was in fact the first portrayal of the flesh/machine bond in an FPS. The Cyberdemon and Arachnotron's appearance didn't really remind me of it though.
Edit: Also TTK was closer to a "rip off" of DOOM with that first mission than what I mentioned in my post. Where else have we seen a demonic invasion of Phobos before? Now THAT is not an opinion, as the game popularized/revolutionized the FPS genre and was technically the first big one (preceded only by Wolfenstein). id was the first with the Phobos invasion thing.
The Taken may not be Demons, but they look the part, so they might as well be. Haha.
But as I said "it's closer" to a rip off and not "it is"
I'd consider it being more along the lines of paying tribute to the guys who came first. Just like the Skywatch loot cave remains and the Dune reference (incredible movie, loved the books, and still play all the RTS games lol). So they have a thing for that kinda stuff. Another example is the Destiny reference in Halo ODST.
Fun fact: John Romero from id actually invented the term "Deathmatch".

3 RespuestasEditado por Nargacugal: 8/5/2016 12:31:26 AMEverything is a ripoff of everything. As long as its cool and done well, I dont care

I will say that they do look similar, but it honestly doesn't really matter, not for us anyway. It's hard to come up with something entirely original. Maybe they saw something they liked and are trying to make it their own.
-
Thats like saying Bethesda ripped Bungie off because Skyrim and Myth both have skeleton warriors.
-
4 RespuestasAnd ALL FPS games were "inspired" by James Cameron's Aliens That 1 movie created a genre that was copy/paste/altered a million times over for Games and Movies alike. There are so many games and stories that have been told over the last 4 decades it's damn near impossible to come up with a 100% original story for ANY genre.

2 RespuestasOmg my first time seeing this pic and I love it, I loved mass effect played the the series over and over! Rise of iron is gonna bring back so many memories lol.

10 RespuestasEditado por GrundleBeans: 8/3/2016 11:00:12 PMFirst of all, nothing is wholly original. ME isn't original. Destiny isn't original. All of them borrow plot structures, themes, and tropes from other games and from cultural history. It's nothing to get bent out of shape over. The appearance and story behind the ME Saren enemies and the RoI Fallen are largely unrelated. You basically picked 1) sci-fi subject, 2) bad guys with powers, 3) red glowing stuff, and called that a "rip-off", which is barely a connection. Even on the surface they don't look alike, act alike, or have a similar back story. If anything, ME is copying ideas from DOOM. In fact, EVERY FPS rips off something from the DOOM franchise because it broke ground for most FPSs as it came first. We call that an influence. And speaking of the ME writer going to Bungie, he of course brings his influence of writing for sci-fi and a similar franchise, but that actually reinforces the idea that he would intentionally try to do something different, not the same. And they have.
-
How dare they be influenced by something else... like every creative person ever...!?
-
3 RespuestasI see a resemblance, however I really don't care. Imagine if game companies could work together to give us the occasional crossover in storylines, destiny in the ME universe could potentially be fcuking amazing. Imagine being caught in the middle of a fight between the vex and the reapers?
-
2 RespuestasNot a "rip off", it's more of an "inspiration" But there aren't many similarities between both games and many details were inspired from other games/movies.

5 RespuestasEditado por What I Look Like: 8/3/2016 3:09:28 PMReading all your comments and you keep readily insisting this is your opinion! I just don't get why people think they can abuse that word so often.. seriously? Look at the Fallen splicers from RoI. Then look at the link YOU provided. They look NOTHING ALIKE. This is a fact. Fallen can't resemble humanoid anything because, well, they ain't human. The whole 4 arms thing really fcks that up. There are no skulls with open rib cages and gaunt arm bones in RoI. Fallen Splicers using nanotechnology to better themselves. Unless you're entirely referring to the color red? They have that in common for sure! At least you aren't color blind. That's what I am trying to tell you. You are entirely, completely incorrect. I'm not trying to argue, I don't enjoy proving people wrong. You've just given me a conveniently easy way to do it.

2 RespuestasWhile they have similarities, calling them 'rip offs' is rather extreme. Fiction is by nature derivative, and being reminded of something by something else doesn't mean rip off. When I saw them, my mind immediately went to the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Iron Hands from Warhammer 40k. That doesn't mean I think Bungie ripped off Games Workshop.

I mean the lead story guy from Mass Effect hopped over to Bungie.

I swear, if the final Raid boss says: "Assuming Direct Control..."

If they put Sovereign references from Mass Effect too, that would be great

2 RespuestasImmitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I probably will stop playing Destiny for a long while once Andromeda drops

4 RespuestasI was just informed that someone from bioware is doing something with the story for destiny 2? Maybe that had something to do with that? Idk. Sorry for the vagueness

2 Respuestas... 2 words freespace and shivans. Basically the same back story to the reapers. Everyone takes cameos and ideas/ consepts from history and 1 another. Good eye though I forgot about that part with the collecters. Ahhh mass effect if the third was better mmmmhhhh
o well we have the indoctrination theory right
3 RespuestasNo way!!! I never knew space ships and alien races were unique to a single game!!!!11oneeleven
