Having a full 6 person teams on patrols (and possibly strikes & missions) would be interesting. But there would probally have to be trade offs such as much more difficult enemies being spawned (preferable) or lower per person rewards for larger fireteams. But it would be a easier way to practice teamwork for six person teams (including communication) before going into Raids or Crucible matches.
But doing so might also cause more lag time for everyone on that server....

I doubt it would cause lag. There's usually either a bunch of people or no one on patrol. I would totally approve a more challenging patrol. You could have level 42 enemies and a bunch of majors and occasionally ultras and random boss or mob encounters, etc Better rewards too I think Destiny would benefit being open world.
