Fact is, I agree with you! Trials needs to go back to year one matchmaking. End of story. Every trials post is littered with these "get gud" responses and trials isn't for everyone. There has always been a "snowflake" aspect to destiny. It was weapons (gjallarhorn) and or rare shaders that made people feel like they had something someone else didn't. That has all gone away with the relentless nerfs resulting in basically everything being and feeling the same, not balanced, but lackluster. The one thing that this small group of individuals that go to he lighthouse every weekend, multiple times is the one thing they can still be a little "snowflake" about. They go easily and want more than anything for you not to be able to get there. That is their hold. So they play relentlessly all weekend getting all of their characters to the lighthouse and then continue to play to keep others out. Like it's their job or duty to be doorkeepers. No matter how relevant or insightful your argument, they don't hear a word of it. They want it the way it is because being a snowflake makes them feel good about themselves, maybe the only thing they are any good at. So rather than listen to reason and want to help other guardians get to experience this portion of the game to its fullest, they will fight you tooth and nail to make sure that you and every other player that doesn't run with super tryhards or isn't being carried, doesn't get to experience the good part of trials. The triumph of winning. The experience of just having a fair "chance" at winning or seeing the lighthouse. The fact that people are exploiting this horrible system to make money is an atrocity. Like you pointed out, they had to take g-horn away due the fax that it made people feel shut out of activities. Trials is this times 1000. It's the gjallarhorn tragedy on an epic scale. Why can't bungie see this? No clue. We all know they actually know exactly what's going on, but why they choose not to make needed changes is the real question.
