This gun needs to be looked at, it took me ages to get and I was actually excited about getting it but we have a issue where it's stupid action gets me killed it's lack of range and it's fire rate..... It's shooting a chunk of lead at 1200 feet per second not a bunch of pellets
No Git good scrub crap needed....I worked hard for this gun and it's not what it should be it is so hard to use
Please look in to it Bungie I'm begging you, it's such a rare and unique gun....it would be a shame to see it go to waste
Edit: So I See a lot of people saying "it's great in the right hands" well I did get the gun and yes I did it legitimately so I'm in a position to say it is in the right hands....do not let my K/D or ELO fool you....having a crap K/D doesn't mean I'm terrible at the game it means I play Aggressively not passive...
Edit 2: I JUST WANT THE GUN TWEAKED SO IT CAN PERFORM BETTER THAN A NON EXOTIC SHOTGUN.
I like to try to keep distance from a 1hk party crasher but I can not because of range issues
Edit 3: I didn't think i would get this much attention from this post you all agree and disagree with me but I believe it needs a range boost...thanks for all the replies

I use my chaperone pretty much exclusively since I got it. Whilst I do absolutely love it, it's nowhere near the killing machine that CTD or PC1 are. It has a far steeper learning curve and is more situational. I'm not too phased by that, it just makes the gun feel like it's not worth the exotic slot, or the effort it took to get it. The meta (and just general destiny gameplay mechanics) support high impact low rate of fire shotguns that can be fired from the hip on reflex, so any 1v1 at close range will have you losing against them, as you need to ADS to headshot and OHK. Whilst it has good range for a shotgun, it needs a buff of some kind to make it truly unique or powerful. Right now it's range more so just makes it awkward - not powerful enough to challenge the meta shotguns at CQ and not enough range to reliably challenge something like a doctrine or some kind of super low range primary at very close range. Maybe a range buff or increase it's body damage as it's supposed to shoot a "slug" unlike any other shotgun in game. I run defender and no back up plans so I feel it makes me a little more effective with it, but most of my kills will end up being a melee follow up as due to how quick moving this game is its very difficult to get headshots at such close range. Reliable kills are with a body shot and quick melee. Which is fine but then why bother wasting an exotic slot when any other legendary shotgun that has similar stats will support the same strategy?

Shotgun rant:
Shotguns in this game fire like a blunderbuss, and don't even have anywhere near the range an actual shotgun would have. The most comparable thing to an actual shotgun in Destiny, in terms of range, is a scout rifle. These weapons were designed to fire large amounts of pellets, or in this case a slug, at ranges of 40 to 200 yards with relative accuracy (buck having the spread of about a baseball, fanning out to a beach ball at the longer ranges). Shotguns in this game are pathetically misrepresented in this postmodern apocalypse because of game balance. If shotguns performed as good as they should nobody would be using any of the weapons designed for long range engagements, because shotguns cover it all. Don't even get me started on damage fall off for these things, it's more the problem than the range is, if something is hit by a slug, to the body, they aren't walking away from it. They're designed to puncture, make a mess, and maybe come out the other side of most engagements.
Actual feedback: Back on topic, the Chaperone lacks in one category: range. It needs to have almost double the range it already has if it's supposed to fit the role of "CQB precision" (that's called a sidearm). Bring the range up to 40 and remove the red dot on the sight while aiming. The damage is fine, both body and precision, though it couldn't hurt to see an increase to both modifiers to punish low armoured Guardians. I've never had a problem with it's fire rate, being able to successfully follow up a body shot with a subsequent one with no risk to myself. The exotic perk, the initial one, is fine, the one that returns rounds hardly activates due to the time constraints- maybe have it return rounds for the same requirements, but instead of them having to be rapid kills make it "without reloading", or something.

I just got it a few days ago and I've noticed that in its intended range, other shotguns are able to kill you.
-
A bit of range/precision damage increase would do. I hate shooting someone in the head at close range only for it to do 192 damage and then getting trucked by a party crasher/conspiracy theory.

2 RespuestasEditado por antiviper80: 7/6/2016 9:53:51 PMThe chaperone is a beast in the right hands. I can go off with it and that's my main pvp shotgun. If it was to be buffed it would be broken.!

2 RespuestasThis gun is for precision scrub. It is my best shotgun and well worth the effort
-
Practice or go sneaky and shoot em from behind. Practice by using it in pve until you get mostly head shots. Or use a wall to practice.
-
7 RespuestasYou guys are full of it. You need to keep a 2.0 kd per game. If you completed in 2 games then you was keeping a 10 kd
-
7 Respuestasso because a weapon takes skill to use it needs to be fixed? the chaperone is a great weapon in the right hands, there is nothing wrong with it.
-
1 RespuestaNo, we need less shotguns in the crucible. Not more.
-
It really should have more range and the Survivor perk should be two quick precision kills for one bullet back.
-
Editado por BRAZACK: 7/8/2016 8:22:21 PMIts just a collectors item atm.i get outgunned by other shotguns all the time. It just needs improvement. The damage is fine but increase the range to that of a god rolled felwinters.

2 RespuestasSo I decided to do some shotgun slug research and I found that a 12 gauge Slug moves at 1800 feet per second and is accurate and lethal at 75 yards and a standard 12 gauge Buck shot round starts loosing power at 75 yards roughly and are not very accurate so in hindsight the chaperone should really devastate a enemy at 75 yards where a normal shotgun should be effective at 40 yards...no I'm not American and no I don't own guns so I'm not to sure on these numbers but they speak for themselves

3 RespuestasYa i hate how I actually have to put in time to learn the weapon and get better with it
-
3 RespuestasGotta land those head shots. Chaperone is beast.

Stockholm GuardianI Hate It Here - 4/15/2026 11:41:14 PM
Just get used to it, I felt the same way at first but the more I used it the better I got, it's actually quite good and fun to use -
12 RespuestasConsidering it shoots a slug, it should be a 1 shot headshot at range. It's range should be increased. And the body shot damage increased. As it sits, it's not worth the exotic classification.
-
From what I've seen it's a quirky weapon. Also I support you on your K/D. I play aggressively as well and I admit sometimes I need to pull myself back as I feel I'm feeding kills.
-
Editado por Mars3099: 7/8/2016 3:37:48 AM
it's not what it should be it is so hard to use
Its not hard to use it just sucks because the range barely, if at all, able to challenge party crasher which is much easier to use since you don't need a headshot The only thing the chaperone has is its fire rate But its not like it has the most ammo anyway so fire rate is only so good
-
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMP
-
Bump. I have the gun and I agree with you, it needs work. All the shotguns need work.
-
1 Respuesta
it means I play Aggressively not passive...
Let me translate this for your: "I like running in the enemies direction" Make what you will of that
-
3 RespuestasEditado por Trapped on Mars: 7/7/2016 2:54:13 PMDude the chaperone is literally my favorite weapon. Bungie needs to keep it as is. Destiny needs more weapons that reward precision damage a lot more. The hawkmoon, the last word and the chaperone are perfect examples.
-
I would love just to have the weapon but I won't cause I am not willing to put myself through pvp bs just to get it cause I get worked up too easily over it.
-
I have fun using it, it's my goto for my titan during Banner, it fires quick enough just pull the trigger more than once, not many run with it though, it's been awhile since I've been killed by it
-
1 RespuestaI think it's a very good shotgun, but maybe not worth the exotic slot. Then again, my favorite shotgun is Invective, and stat-wise, Chaperone is pretty similar to that. What shotgun do you normally use?
