Seriously, if you're go insulting people about their opinion then yore directly violating the first amendment.
I'm not just talking about the gun argument, I'm just talking about everything in general
It's okay to have a mature conversation about something with respected facts and statistics but when you go in trying to put them down and make them feel bad all you are really doing is you're destroying your image.
This also goes along with the damn religious debate that many atheists are making up in their mind.
Seriously, no one gives a flying -blam!- that you don't believe in God. Not even God himself cares about it.
I rarely see any Christians, (civilized) Muslims, Buddhists, Jews or anyone belonging to any other religion try to put someone down because they don't share the same belief.
I think it is because a lot of atheists are actually really smart and a lot of really smart people like to be noticed for their knowledge. So in order to get noticed for it they try to disapprove people with random facts eventually leading into them being a major asshole about it.
Trust me, I've been of those people.

I AM FINE WITH you not belonging to the same religion as me
I AM OKAY WITH you having a different opinion than me
IT DOESN'T BOTHER ME that you belong to a different political party than me

I agree with you. I accept people from other parties and religions and respect their opinion. I don't want to ban guns, and I definitely don't want to ban Muslims. If anyone else thinks differently that's fine by me as long as they accept my opinion.

Not every atheist brings down other religions those are the stuck up ones and the ones sick of people bringing up dumbass claims in a religious debates like "You can't disprove God".
