SBMM is essentially the final nail in the coffin of Destiny for many. I see a significant loss of players for Destiny with the release of Rise of Iron.

The twitch streams tell a different tale. Literally hundreds of thousands of views But all games die. Also, I'm assuming here, a slow switch to more emphasis on SBMM makes it easier for new players to join the game and not get stomped by year 1 vets.
-
Views on twitch doesn't always equal players playing the game.
-
It's interest though. There's plenty of players left, I'm sure.

Bungie hasn't been willing to share active player numbers in some time now. The people watching the stream could be there because they find the content creator interesting not necessarily the game itself. If you are looking at Bungie's reveal stream numbers you have to consider the following. Players watching these particular streams are looking to find out information about the expansion itself so they can make a decision on whether or not it is worth buying, if the players aren't happy with what they see then chances are they aren't going to buy the upcoming expansion. There have been plenty of people voicing displeasure about how Bungie decided to implement SBMM and Bungie not changing this could easily drive these players away from Destiny.
-
Those people are at the top of the curve. I doubt a few hundred thousand watch the reveal twitch just to decide they don't want it. But who knows.
-
Why do you think they watch a stream detailing information about an upcoming expansion?
-
I'm sure a lot are like me. I watch them because I am very excited and want to know. Several hundred thousand watched the April.update reveals and no decision to buy or not involved there. Judging from the comments, mostly just folks excited for new content.
-
The April Update was free which would explain why nobody was deciding whether or not they were going to buy it.
-
But my point is a few hundred k watched the stream. I'd imagine most of those are at least moderately active players. And not all players watch twitch streams
-
My point is that people were more upbeat about it because it wasn't going to cost them a dime, people tend to be a bit more critical when they have to pay for something. There have been plenty of post made by players unhappy about being forced into SBMM. If Bungie doesn't address that issue then expect plenty of players to walk away.
-
Some will leave, some will arrive. It's a win lose situation.

We'll see.
