Trials Balance suggestion

OK, first off let me just say that if you snipe and you're good at it you may have a problem with what I'm about to say. Snipers in trials are just too OP, i'm pretty sure it's impossible to make it to the lighthouse without having them in your arsenal or on your team. Anytime someone says a certain map selected for trials in any given week is stupid, they're probably talking about maps that start with ppl hardscoping any and all available lanes. Now in any other mode you can afford to get popped once or twice before flanking and killing them, but in trials which is elimination, you don't get a second chance. I think that for a weapon that can kill as easily as a sniper can with such little risk, that is a problem. My solution to the problem is that in trials, ppl shouldn't spawn with any special, not only that, you should also lose special like heavy if you die and get revived. It just sucks that 95% of trials matches start off with a hardscope staring contest. Most of my friends just avoid trials all together due to the fact that you instantly get shutdown at range by snipers. It sucks though because despite the fact it's a scopefest it can still be pretty fun. However it needs works since snipers pretty much reign supreme. It's like letting ppl start off with rockets or an LMG, and with my solution, it's not like you totally lose access to them, you just have to wait a bit before grabbing ammo and you now get punished for dying with it. Any other thoughts on this matter?

  • Nerfing special leads to players jus waiting for special ammo to spawn. They need to buff primaries time to kill across the board. Primaries no longer pose as great a threat to people. I'm a top in the world and have been since year 1 btw. I use both shotty and snipes effectively. Snipers aren't a problem, Shotguns are fine where they r but the only thing lacking right now is primaries. All the nerfs to primaries has given us the current meta of camping in spawn with snipers. It doesn't bother me too much as I will continue to poop on players who do so but to casuals like urself who don't know how to approach players like that, it can be frustrating. The current meta that we have allows snipers to thrive, nerfing them isn't the answer as it would only make the game feel worse off then it was. Every gun would feel weak. To fix this sniper meta, they need to buff primaries across the board. Along with that, make higher skill requirement weapons top tier. Weapons like doctrine which require no skill to use shouldn't be top tier. Weapons like hawkmoon which have high recoil and semi auto should be top tier. Anyways I doubt these changes will happen. A lot of these ideas I just shared are also shared by a large part of the top pvp community. These changes would make the game more competitive as well up the tempo in games. It wouldnt make the game to fast but it would be between a year 1 and year 2 destiny. If anything it would result in probably the best meta of destiny if they were to do this.

  • The problem here is.. If special ammo was nerfed like you want, you would then just focus on crying about the next weapon that kills you for example any kind of primary weapon. What's "overpowered" is a skilful players aim, if snipers were "OP" why do you still lose when you have a team of snipers? If you can't out snipe and opponent what makes you think you can out primary them?

        Just went to the lighthouse three times before reset with me and my teammate with our defender titans so idk why it's a problem for some ppl to handle snipers. If three is obviously hard scooping their balls off in their spawn flank with a shotty while the other 2 r there messing with them and trust I destroy teams like that every time. They already took ammo away and made the zoom bigger on popular scopes so what now u want them take aim assist off of snipers? The only thing that can be done imo is hidden hand not being a year 3 perk. Nice try on suggesting that no one start with ammo on the first round that is flaw bc at the time where they weren't ammo one the first round of trials ppl was putting their icebreaker/sidearm on to get ammo anyways.

          • Trials isn't for everyone. Most of your skilled players are going to use snipers. Unfortunately this game mode was designed to be "competitive". Sure, sniping on this game is easier than other FPS, but it's still an acquired skill. The reason this game mode is slower paced, is because of the no respawn & having to get revives. So the playstyle changes compared to regular crucible. Believe me, I would love to have an awesome trials experience, but facts are facts players better than me are going to win. I could complain about snipers, maps, and subclasses all day, but the problem is in my gameplay. I need to adapt, nerfing solves nothing, just reinforces bad habits for bad players.

            • I strongly agree with this. I mostly avoid trials because it's too sniper forcing. It's not even challenging to players if they can go through the the entire thing without dropping the sniper. Special ammo should not be provided at start

                In Trials before the April update, players started without Special ammo and it ended up being a failure. It led to people using exploits like Icebreaker and Sidearms and the team that didn't win the first round were at a severe disadvantage because they couldn't use their own special ammo to defend against the enemy team. Instead of treating this game like a 2D world, jump over the sniper lanes instead of walking straight into them.

                • there are plenty of good teams that use shotguns and they've already tried no ammo when you spawn and that didn't work

                    • how about they make a random (each round) set loadout for each team with the quatermaster weapons so everyone has the same weapons. for example have the HC with Fusion Rifle and Machine Gun. or whatever. that way the players who are efficient with all can truly rise as top tier. idk just an idea

                    • The most sensible solution is to make special ammo round specific. Unfortunately you run the risk of everyone running NLB sidearm... Maybe that's a risk worth taking, though.

                      • How about eliminate one shot head kills? And for those or you who say that in real life a head shot would kill you with a sniper you're right. However, a headshot with a hand cannon, auto rifle or any other gun would one shot you as well. This is a game. You want balance? Either make every gun a one shot head shot kill or none of them. Sound fair? Oh yeah, this would fix the res snipe problem as well.

                        • Snipers do take skill but you don't always have to use them. Put time into different load outs and you will find success. Fusion rifles are actually decent now but everyone rules them out so give them a try and see what happens

                        • It's cuase you spawn with ammo, every map is a sniper map no map favour s shotguns let alone fusion rifes cuase sniper rifes are so quick to get into and even hip fire they are dead on and c cuase it's f*ing destiny lol.

                          Its hard, but you can go flawless without snipers. Me and my pals did it without snipers on black shield two days ago. Now that was a trial. And you can bet it felt good beating and tbagging those snipers after beating them, which I normally never do, but Damn it felt good to do it against these sniper try hards. But yeah, there was literally ONE person not using a sniper that we fought against. It is sad that trials is dominated by snipers, and i agree that they do need a rebalancing. Honestly, some extra flinch against them would be nice, I don't see how people defend snipers when you're shooting them in the face and they still manage to get that clutch headshot on you.

                          • Nerf snipers in PVP ONLY. Another suggestion is remove the radar in trials, this will make it harder and make the spawn points random so people can't memorize the spawns. It wouldn't hurt to put obstacles in known sniper lanes. It has become a joke, people are tired of the snipe fest. Are you listening bungie???

                          • What makes snipers op are usually the high impact ones because they cam easily hit your body and then use a primary to finish you off, Its cheap and people always do it. Honestly somehow the high impact snipers have more aim assist than the low impact ones, maybe theres a few low impact with high assist but I usually don't see it. The low zoom is another thing that make all these snipers annoying as hell, people go around getting head shots at 5 feet away. Another reason snipers are dominant is because all primary guns in the game are garbage. I was a good sniper in year one and it was fun because it took more skills, you would be stupid if you ever used a sniper at close range but all the nerfs bungie decided to make only made snipers rise to the top and somehow bungie is actually cool with snipers being dominant. My solution? Leave snipers alone but buff all the primary guns to when they were in their best. Im talking about when autos were awesome, I'm talking about when low to mid fire pulse rifles could 2 burst, when hand cannons were useable, when shotguns had good perks. All these guns should get buffed to their prime, people will easily say wtf??? My solution? Make it so the range is the only thing that actually ever affected these guns. That way scouts can still kick ass at their intended range, autos will dominate the close range, hand cannons will be strong as long as the person knows how to time their shots. That would make trials a whole lot more fun because people will think about flanking the enemy, holding ground, sneaking, being aggressive. The pace of trials of course would be more challenging but holy shit thats what made the game fun as hell. I don't want this game to be like overwatch, in that game it takes like 5 seconds to kill one guy, thats boring as hell

                          • See i agree with you trials is like festival of snipes. But you know why? Because they nerfed shotgun to infinity and beyond. Fusion are meeeh at least for me and the same goes for pistols again at least for me so what else is there to use? Bring back shotguns and people will start using them again or really anything buff pistols to make them an actual choice!

                            • This is why you learn your maps. Find out how to avoid sniper lanes. Have a good class for cqc etc.

                              • The problem isn't the gun it's the strategies people use. You don't have to have a staring contest with snipers. Yesterday two of us would snipe at them while another flanked with the mida.
